Welcome to Nintendo News! Every weekend, Smashboards will compile the noteworthy Nintendo related news bits from the week and put them together into one handy article! This week's Nintendo News is for the week of January 18th to January 25th, 2015, and covers Pokken Tounrament news, EVO 2015, and more. Read on below!

Pokken Tournament: New Playable Pokemon and Gameplay Details Revealed

On Januray 23rd, Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu Monthly streamed details of the upcoming Pokemon fighting game, Pokken Tournament. They revealed 3 new playable Pokemon, Gardevoir, Pikachu and Suicune and showed off some live gameplay for the first time. The game lets the Pokemon run around in full 3D launching ranged attacks, but once someone lands a close combat melee attack, the game tightens up to a more traditional 2.5D fighter similar to Street Fighter or Tekken. They also showed Support Set Pokemon, were you can summon other Pokemon such as Lapras or Snivy to come launch an attack and aid in battle. For a much more detailed overview of the game, check out our Smashboards article discussing all the new features.

2 Super Smash Bros Games Make the EVO 2015 Lineup

On January 20th, Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar announced the game lineup for EVO 2015 on Twitch. Super Smash Bros for Wii U was confirmed first and Super Smash Bros Melee was confirmed later during the stream. In an interview with Shoryuken, Mr. Wizard was asked if Super Smash Bros Melee could potentially beat Marvel vs Capcom 2's record for most EVO appearances. He responded by saying :

"It very well could. You have to remember this game is 15 years old, and it’s getting record numbers. Anything is possible with a very strong community like Smash."
A full list of the games set to appear at EVO 2015 can be viewed below.

It would be amazing to have a very diverse roster, with many different characters to choose from. Now that we know that not only Fighting-Type Pokémon are allowed as playable characters, there are a lot of possibilities for actual fighters, taking into consideration the fact that even those Pokémon not capable of standing on two legs can also be part of the cast.

I personally want to see my boy Slowbro in one way or another. And if it's not him, maybe Nidoking. Watching that bad boy wreck some monsters in HD would be pretty amazing.

Now regarding the Wii titles coming to the eShop, I really hope Nintendo evaluates the possibility of porting GameCube games as well. They have the adapter altready, I don't know what is stopping them from doing it. Also, HD remasters of games should be a thing by now, and I'm not refering to games like the Wind Waker HD, I'm refering to ports available on the eShop but with polished graphics and a nicer look overall. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to have some extra exclusive content in there too...
