Big things come in chibi packages.

Chibi-Robo!

Game Summary:
The Sanderson family has just become the proud owners of a new Chibi-Robo unit. It's time for their new little buddy to clean, jump, climb and heal the family or marriage issues? Chibi-Robo is a game where the entire playable world is the Sanderson house. Being well, chibi, Chibi-Robo is small and requires a lot of effort to move around a normal sized home. But wait, you have limited power. You'll need to carefully decide just what to do as every single action, from walking to fighting enemies takes precious power. You can always plug into an outlet and charge up if you can make it to one. You'll need to clean up the house, perform tasks to help the people, animals and toys that live in the house and fighting off the dangerous Spydors. You have a variety of tools to explore your world including a propeller, a tooth brush and a gun. Use those watts wisely.

The plot of Chibi-Robo is actually several smaller isolated plots. There is the main goal of reviving Giga-Robo but most of what you do doesn't directly affect that. Sometimes you'll help two toys fall in love. Maybe you'll help a failing marriage. You can help a little girl to speak. And you can even get downright Funky with Funky Phil (not too Funky though, he nearly dies). To give a plot summary of Chibi-Robo would be difficult. I'd have to give several smaller summaries instead.

I got this game randomly as a gift from a friend. I quickly fell in love. If I had to describe this game with one word, its... heart. Helping everyone around you just feels nice and the sense of progression is so unique and charming. I especially love the toys around the house. They're a super fun cast of characters. In fact, I'll go ahead and say it. This is the only good Chibi-Robo game. The rest pale in comparison. Even Park Patrol. Still, this one game made me enough of a fan to keep seeing if the other games could recapture that magic. I genuinely love this game.

I loved playing this game. I didn't play the other ones in the franchise(though I think I own only one of the other two?), but this one felt really fun. Nothing felt too overwhelming mechanics-wise, or unfair. It was reasonably challenging at some points, and I don't mind being on a battery(though sometimes item-breaking mechanics can be, uh, annoying, but thankfully this game balanced it well).

I'm thinking Chibi-Robo might become the new EarthBound in terms of cult status despite lack of economic favor, just without the Mother/EarthBound series gracefully wrapping itself up.

So with the ntsc gamecube game being crazy expensive i went to the next best thing, the ds game (Park Patrol). It was ok & definitely saw the potential of the series. Even tried Photo Finder since i liked the potential so much. Luckily a translation released since then for the more affordable wii (new play control) version. Do have it backed up & patched but still on my backlog for now. Similar situation too for the 2nd ds game (Clean Sweep?) which i guess is the closest sequel to the original.

So who were your favorite characters in the OG Chibi-Robo?

I personally love the princess and mummy side quest. I also loved everything with Dinah and Funky Phill.

And of course, Drake Redcrest is a hoot.

Are Marth and Roy in this game?

Fire Emblem (The Blazing Blade)

Game Summary:
Trouble is brewing in the land of Elibe. Three lords from across the continent will have to stop a dark force from taking over the land. Lyn, Eliwood and Hector are the three main characters of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. Each one has a unique story mode and route (although they all join together with time). Lyn's story acts as a tutorial and a prologue. While Eliwood and Hector's stories are essentially different tellings of the same story. No matter what path you choose, all three heroes will lead their armies to fight Nergal and his army of morphs. These morphs are soulless creations made of dark magic and Nergal plans on using them to bring back dragons to feast on their life force. Along the way, these heroes will meet the dragon Ninian and her brother Nils. Perhaps, they would be useful allies in stopping the dreaded Nergal?

The gameplay is the traditional tactical strategy game that Fire Emblem had been for quite some time. Although, because this game was meant to be the first international Fire Emblem, they did make things easier. You have all of your Fire Emblem staples like multiple classes and weapons, the weapon triangle, weapon durability and support systems. I'd normally go and talk about new things that Blazing Blade added, but gameplay wise, there aren't any big new features like skills, marriage or battalions. There are tweaks of course, but many of the changes people attribute to Blazing Blade actually come from Binding Blade. You can do link battles with your friends, but good luck finding the hardware for that.

In case you're confused with the name, Fire Emblem 7 was initially just called Fire Emblem when it released in English speaking regions. It was retroactively renamed to be Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade.

This game is a great one. By the time I experienced it, I was already a pretty big Fire Emblem fan. And I had played more modern ones like Awakening and Fates. I didn't want anyone to die so I abused resetting (and save states when things felt real unlucky). It wasn't a particularly hard game, but there is some BS here and there. The chapter where you save Zephiel is infamous, and some of the bonus levels where there were lots of breakable blocks were annoying. Still the majority of chapters where fun and well designed.

The cast is a bit of a mixed bag. The main cast is all great and there are some real winners in the supporting cast. Unfortunately, this game has the old FE problem of having some playable cast members just... being there. And the limited support options hinder your attempts at getting to know them. I couldn't tell you what Oswin's personality is, even if he never left my party. My issue isn't really with the characterization. It's just how hard it can be to access it without multiple playthroughs (or Youtube vidoes).

Still I recommend the game and its a great starting point for new fans.

Great starting point for Fire Emblem yeah, maybe. I'd try to enter with newer entries by now. That role is kind of over I feel. It's the entry point for us western FE fans for sure. And it did what it did in that greatly. Quality of life upgrades over FE6 for example where great.

Lyn Mode is actually great. Like it a lot. Especially cause Lyn can really really use it to be, y'know of use. Hector Mode is challenging. Good enough cast, Hector and Lyn especially. Eliwood as a main character is sort of... there. There definitely are better main Lords in FE.

As a prequel to FE6 , I don't feel it fares too well. After playing both it just leaves for some serious questions. Like, what happened to Lyn? And there are some inconsistencies. However, would be great to have these two games remade into one some day.

I'll rank it with a 7/10 myself. Just because am a huge fan of the franchise

Did get the game on wii u virtual console but still havent gotten around to playing it. Had played Sacred Stones though. Didnt enjoy it as much as i thought i would although maybe thats because i played it between three houses playthroughs. Still it sort of put the other gba games as low priority for me.

The Radiance games should probably be my next pre-awakening games anyway since they were a bit more of an investment although luckily i got both back when it was possible to get them for double digit prices.

Shoutout the all the people to managed to find this game on the Wii before it got ludicrously expensive.

Xenoblade Chronicles

Game Summary:
In this world, there are two giants, the Bionis and the Mechonis. Each of these giants are large enough to house One the Bionis, biological life flourishes, but on the Mechonis, mechanical life was born. These biological and mechanical beings have been at war for a long time. The mechanical weapons have the upper hand as all conventional weapons seem to be ineffective. Only one weapon can damage Mechon forces: the Monado.

At the feet of the Bionis, lies Colony 9 where many homs (humans) built their home. A young boy named Shulk lives there as an engineer with his friends, Reyn, Fiora and Dunban. Dunban is an old war hero who wielded the Monado. Reyn is Shulk's best friend and Fiora is Shulk's love interest. Everything is going well until the Mechon attack. In the attack, Shulk manages to grab ahold of the Monado and wield it like no one has wielded it before. Unfortunately, Shulk's precious Fiora is killed in the battle by a giant faced Mechon. Shulk and Reyn decide to go on a journey to avenge their fallen friend. While on their journey, Shulk starts getting visions of the future. Can he use these visions to avenge Fiora?

The gameplay of Xenoblade Chronicles takes many cues from western MMO RPGs. You explore the world with a third person view and a very small jump. You can find items in blue wisps and look for landmarks and story progress. The battles of Xenoblade are real time. When in battle, assuming you're close enough, your character will automatically attack the enemy. You will need to position your character and choose which specials moves to use. Some moves are stronger when you are beside or behind an enemy. Some moves are better when certain status conditions have been applied. Due to Shulk's visions, he can also see attacks that his enemies will do. Sometimes, these visions can predict a character death or a massive hit. You'll have to prepare accordingly to react to this new information. This creates a dynamic system where you will have to adapt your strategy on the fly.

Xenoblade Chronicles has been remade twice. Once for the New Nintendo 3DS and once for the Definitive Edition on Switch. The Definitive Edition adds a whole new story and lots of side content.

The game is a JRPG treat! I managed to find a copy at Gamestop for 50 dollars way back when the game was super hard to find. I had heard of Shulk from Smashboards. Xenoblade had a lot of hype and I'll admit, people's hype won me over.

And... it lived up to the hype. The OG Xenoblade had some muddy graphics, but the word design, music, storytelling and characters really won me over. I won't say the gameplay is super great, because it isn't, but its fun enough to let the story and world flow.

I'd recommend it to anyone who was interested, but it is LONG. If you want a shorter game, this isn't for you.

I wanted to get it on the Wii soooo bad. It caught my eye as something special and it's cool to see how it grew into a series.

I finally managed to play the first game via the Switch remake. I had a good time but I never finished it. I feel like I got a fair way through it and I really should go back and finish it.

I loved pretty much everything about it but I think I got a little burned out trying to raise affinity with characters not named Shulk or having to rethink my setup when changing the party.

Xenoblade 1. As someone who started the series with Xenoblade 2, I initially hated the controls of 1. It was odd going from 2’s smoother battle system to 1’s.

I eventually gave Xenoblade 1 another shot a few years later. And I loved it. Not as much as 2 to be honest, as that game has a special place in my heart, but I still loved the characters and story. It’s nice to see where this series I hold close to my heart began.

It’s definitely a 9/10 game, and of course, it gave us Reyn Time. Although it is easy to see why 1’s characters get overlooked compared to 2 and 3’s casts.

The best version of one of the best games out there? Sign me up. One of the few gripes I had with the og Xenoblade was the abundance of rather pointless Side quests. Well now the definitive edition has streamlined so much of that that it's barely a worry. Also now you can adjust your exp to avoid over leveling? Brilliant. Aesthetic costumes? Fantastic. A new epilogue for Melia that even brings back Jenna Coleman. Yes!!! I haven't even mentioned how much the graphics have improved. I adore the updated character models, it's the best all these characters have looked.

It's just a wonderful game everyone should try out

Absolutely lovely game.

While the battle system doesn't hold up quite as well compared to its sequels, the stellar world design and bat**** insane story beats definitely make up for it. The cast is probably the weakest out of the main trilogy imo, but still full of loveable characters, and I think the villains are among the best in the series, although Malos and Jin from XC2 are still the GOATs.

The DE visuals and QoL additions are fantastic and just make an already great JRPG even better. I wasn't a huge fan of Future Connected but it was still a neat bonus to the main course and gave Melia more time to shine, which is always nice.

But yeah, it's definitely one of my favorite games ever.

Still great. But upon replaying the entire series in anticipation for 3 (NG+ with no armor), I will say that it is probably the weakest one in the trilogy. This is simply because the sequels were able to build up on combat, side quests and other mechanics. But I also think XB1 is still the best overall package where 2 and 3 do some things very well and others not as well and 1 is more balanced.

I've only played the original version but still. I think I was following operation rainfall way back when, though I never got around to the other two. anyway I remember getting it on the wii along with the pro controller. I was actually on holiday at the time so I first played it on a tiny tv in my aunts caravan. I also struggled with it greatly at first, I kept getting stuck at major boss fights. I ended up leaving it for long periods but I did go back after a while. and realised what I was doing wrong so I could start progressing properly. but despite these setbacks I enjoyed my time with it and loved the seven main characters. I've since played the three follow ups and enjoyed each of them for varying degrees. though I will admit the long amount I time I spent getting through the original put me off doing it again hence why I never got another version of it.

also it was fun seeing a game dubbed in the UK for once

Fitting game to be discussing with X getting a Definitive Edition just announced.

For the series itself have only played 2. Enjoyed it enough to get the rest of the series buts its all on my backlog right now. Leaning towards doing 3 before 1 too mainly because of Future Redeemed. Hopefully not too much of 1 gets spoiled but not a big deal if it does.

Xenoblade became a favorite series of mine. Just the mentoin of it makes me wanna play through a 3 games I own on Switch. Fond memories of it.

This game was my first in the series. I somehow got put off first by XBC2 and its "appeal" of the prominent female cast, but I let that judgement slide after Pyra and Mythra got in Smash.

Anyway the first game was a blast to play. Good story, great graphics and scenery, good music and great cast. The story is still somewhat of a mind **** up till this day, but I love it for it. Its philosophical in a way. And I like how it makes you think. That's art. Especially with its overall presentation.

The battle game play has aged a bit compared to XBC2 and especially 3, but it's a great starting point. Honestly I never switch my focus off from the main character for 90%, as I like to take the offensive role, but yeah you got options in this.

I recommend this game to anyone who likes RPGs with a good story. Really can't go wrong. Xenoblade after Fire Emblem is a second franchise Smash introduced me to and became an instant fan of. I do recommend this game strongly.

Easy 9/10

I'm out right now (and honestly forgot this thread existed), but I wanna say real quick that I beat XCDE, and while a do prefer 2 and 3 (hot take, I know) I still enjoyed my time with the game. Wish the combat wasn't so tedious, though, glad they fixed that as the series progressed...

Can I pet that dooooooog? :4duckhunt:

DUCK HUNT

Game Summary:
Duck Hunt is a very special NES game. Instead of using a controller to play the game, you'd use the special NES Zapper light gun. You would connect your Zapper to the NES, aim at the screen and pull the trigger! You didn't have an exact reticle, but you could aim and shoot in real time. It's just like the real thing, right? The goal is the game is simple. Shoot all of the ducks you can to improve your score. Each stage has ten ducks and each duck only stays on the screen for a certain amount of time. The ducks get faster as you go, so you'll have to have a good aim at those higher levels. The game also has a side mode where you can shoot at clay pigeons instead of ducks. The clay pigeons act a little differently, but the gameplay remains the same.

Duck Hunt is a bit special in that its been bundled with several other games. Most notably, its been bundled with Super Mario Bros.

Looks like im the 1st one to reply thats played Duck Hunt. Was happy & excited to see that they got it to work for Wii U Virtual Console & picked it up & played it right away shortly after i got my Wii U (around when Mario Maker came out).

Dont have much to say. Was exactly what i expected, a solid shooting gallery. Not much to it but thats ok given its release timeframe & general innovation. Feel like playing the original on a CRT would be a bit more of a special experience but thats easier said than done. Where i would love to play it as originally intended someday, im also happy to have at least experienced what i could.

Never owned a NES, but we borrowed my aunts and cousin's NES for a while when they got the SNES. I remember we had Duck Hunt but not the gun. And I was like.. 3. Besides Duck Hunt we also got Mario Bros 1 and 3 I think. I disliked those cause they where too difficult. Quit immediately.

That's my experience with the game and whole console lol

I have a bit of fondness for Duck Hunt if only because it was my dad's absolute favorite game for a time and I enjoyed watching him kick ass at it.

Never played much of it myself. I did grab the VC release on Wii U so maybe someday I'll give the game another go, but it's just not the same without the Zapper.

All I can say is that I don't think the manual saying you needed to have 6 feet between you and the TV didn't account for small TVs.

When you obey that rule, and look down the sights of the Zapper, the barrel covers pretty much the whole TV, I had to hold it up close to the screen to actually play it.
