Heard Nintendo is hosting a tournament at Gamescom, what's going on with that?

I can't find anything within the last day or so that mentions anything about the tournament. I hope it's still on.

I heard about this as well, but according to IGN Nintendo is pretty much non-existent there so I didn't know if it was going to be broadcast or what.

Same. What's the point of a new build now when the games a month away from launch? That would basically be the final game.

Yeah that's why I'm sure it is the same build. It is only a month until Japan gets it so there would be no point to making a new demo.

I do think the Gamescon build is the E3 build, although if I remember, I think Sakurai mentioned that on his twitter that he was going to show off an updated build at a CoroCoro event in Japan before it comes out. He also said it's more "polished." I could be wrong, but I've xD1x said this on twitter and other small articles about it.

Im from germany and yes, there is a tournament. It will have 3 chosen Commentators from our competitive board germansmash.de . The tournament wont be streamed though afaik. And Nintendo will also be present with many games but their booth wont be really big. If its going to be a new version isnt known yet but its unlikely.

I would say no if SDCC and CoroCoro didn't get a reveal, then I would say it's next to 0.

There isn't going to be any character reveals or anything at the sort at Gamescom, since Nintendo's presence is pretty small from what I can tell. They are really just letting the European public play their upcoming games since we haven't gotten a chance to try them yet. Sony is having a huge presence though, they are having a full-on conference, and revealing games they never revealed before.

I hope we get to find some new developments for SMASH at this event! It would interesting if they have made any changes to the game mechanics since E3.
