Newcomer: Pokey Minch

Why he should be in:
- We need more Earthbound characters
- We need more villains
- Unlike Ness, Poo, Jeff, Paula, Flint, Lucas, etc., Pokey has a big role in TWO Earthbound games, not just one.

I don't like Pokey. IMO he's not a combat fighter, more like a coward who hides behind money and the power of others. Go fight Starman Jr. again and then tell me how awesome Pokey was.

Pokey is an interesting idea. He's definitely not my first choice for another Earthbound character, but I wouldn't say he's a bad one. If you could incorporate Gygas somehow for his super attack, then I would be all for it.

This is the single most ******** character idea EVER, the idea to use birdo was better than this, he hides, whines, doesn't fight, pretends to pass out. begs for mercy, and there is already another earthbound thread, so MEH!

Now if yo were to incorporate the Gygas thing...MAYBE, but no, just no.

correct me if im wrong, but he was in Mother 2 and 3 (that is what is says in post #1)

other then that, Jeff would be a better character, and he would be known to both American and Japanese audiences

Ahh yes I missed that, I think Ana, Teddy or Jeff's Mother 1 equivlant would be better.

I find it hilarious how obvious it is in this thread that most people haven't actually reached the last battle in Earthbound, what with all the talk how he never fights in the game.

C'mon! He fights in a SPIDER MECH. With stink bombs. And claw attacks. He can also incorperate moves from 'that other game', but I don't want to spoil it for other people.

Though I'd still prefer Jeff and Flint, but Earthbound still needs a villian representative, and there's nobdy better than Pokey for the job.

I can't really see Pokey making it into Brawl, not because he couldn't work, but because that there really isn't enough room for him. Jeff, Lucas, and/or Kumatora would have to come first, and after that (if all three made it in, hypothetically) there wouldn't be any more room for more EB characters. It wouldn't be fair to the other franchises. I wouldn't mind seeing Pokey at all, but not if it meant somebody else who deserved it more didn't make it in because of him.

I don't know, it's just not one of those ideas that are hard to consider. I would be careful before making threads like this, because if people don't like the idea, it won't be too pretty.

Yeah. Like somone I know, I don't remember WHO exactly, but someone with a Diddy Kong Avatar and sig kept bringing up, in random threads and random times, how much Petey Piranha sucks. Yeah, good thing you're not like them, eh xianfeng?

I've never played Earthbound so I can't really critique him, but he looks funny.

There was a deleted ending of the game in which Pokey dies, but it was cut. You can only find it with a cheat device. So Pokey is still alive at the end of Mother 3, but barely.

Anyways, in Mother 3, he is the final boss so he can get moves from there. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but in Mother 2, doesn't he join Ness in his party for a short time in the game?

No, Hermione from Harry Potter was. Besides, he can incorperate his Mother 3 moves, and even if he didn't have any fighting moves, Fox McCloud and Captain Falcon FTW!

Pichu is weak and useless and he got in. That means they can still have Pokey use his moves from when he was in your party, but make them more powerful in Brawl.

Also, his mech could be his super move.

No offence but Pokey was only in your party for roughly 10 - 15 minutes of the game and if memory serves me right, his moves pretty much consisted of doing nothing, cowering, and possibly picking his nose. I can't see those being moves in Brawl for him.

I didn't know much about Mother 2 Pokey, so that caught me by suprise.

Anyways, I still think he should be in because of his big role in TWO Earthbound games, including the new one. Besides, booger flinging can be very powerful.

The Mother series (Hopefully we all know what that is by now ) is one of the best selling RPG's in Japan, and hailed as one of the best worldwide (Only Final fantasy and Dragon Warrior beat it I heard). of course Earthbound characters will be considered.

BTW, I want to join your mob, and as we get our torches and pitchforks, I'll beat everyone for stupidly hating one of the best characters in the game.

Can I be in on this? Ness-Hater bashing is one of my favourite pastimes(right up there with Jiggs-Hater bashing).

As for Pokey, I don't want him in because I don't like him, I don't have good reasons at the moment.

The fact that Pokey is trapped in the Absolute Capsule forever shouldn't affect the chances for him to appear (which are none at this point). Sigurd, a Fire Emblem Seisen no Keifu character, actually DIED and is one the most requested characters in Japan since Melee.

By the way, people should use more often the spoiler tag, even more in threads like these.

Okay, so I haven't played a single mother game. BUt I know how to do my research, and the franchise looks pretty awesome. I'm robably going to get them on Virtual Console next year.

In any case, another Earthbound character would be nice. I thin that generall representatives of franchises should be added in this order:

Hero
Villain (unless they are huge and boring, like Andross, Giygas, Nightmare, or Demon Vaati)
Sidekick
Damsel (if she fights occasionally)

So in my view, Pokey should be added before Lucas, or any party members. In any case, many of them are similar enough to Ness to be alternate costumes. I also think to differentiate him from Ness, Pokey should be in a small mecha for normal play. His Super Smash would channel Giygas. IS that tenebale, do you think?

Im all in for Pokey! I always loved how cowardly he was to Ness in Mother 2. :D
I've yet to play Mother 3, anyone knows where to dowl- err I mean BUY Mother 3? ^^; And the fact that he already is in Mother 3 is actually a big reason for him to return.

I say that Pokey could make an exelent character for Brawl. Togheter with Lucas I think he's the most deserving Mother character for a playable character spot.

I think it would be fun to have him run around in a Mecha the whole time. No other Smash Bros. character does that. It would also mae him BOwser sized, and a more viable villain.

As if it wasn't bad enough that he has absolutely no room to work with his B-moves, there's far more deserving characters in Mother series that need a drop-in besides Pokey.

By "Deserving" I don't mean "OMG PEOPLE FROM EARTHBOUND!", I mean anyone from Mother 3 or Earthbound - any of the main characters, any of the major villains, hell I'd even be happy with Starman, or the Runaway Five, Carpainter, Talah Rama, Flying Man, King the Dog, Master Belch/Puke, or...
