Last weekend we had a very small scale tournament with a weird format :D and all of the matches were recorded (more to come as pool matches will be uploaded).

vs Jeapie (aka JeapRape xD) (C. Falcon) for 1st/2nd or 3rd/4th
1 2

vs Ace (Ganon) for 3rd place
1 2 3

I seem to enjoy crouching and challenging stomps a bit too much >_<
C&C appreciated :)

great job man. I loved your sheild pressure. You also had great dynamic movement. Sure you died sometimes of it. But since you were always on him, He never really go to start his momentum or space. Again freaking awwsome job.

:yoshi: Mind Trick!

This was a great job; lots of movement and some really tight play on both ends! I miss Melee matches that are good and fun to watch. Some notes that I wanted to address and you can feel free to take anything at your leisure.

As you already commented, you enjoy crouching. I am a moderate proponent for crouching in general and in specific matchups, but the Captain Falcon matchup is far too gay to employ regular crouching. I don't know if Falcon players look for it specifically or if they just like crouchers, but they have excellent techniques against crouching characters and it's a habit that tends to hinder good DI on reaction as well. GREAT egg angles off the edge; you really impressed me with those!

Um, what else...right, your use of neutral air and forward tilt. First off, I want to say that I like it a lot. I do, however, want to encourage you to try reversing your neutral air when it's practical; the frontal boxes are really just very very bad for Yoshi and it's almost always a lose-lose situation when an opponent tries to challenge it from the front. Reversing is much safer and is more convenient for when opponents are chasing you and you want to drop that high powered DJC neutral. You can do it in place or even just inch forward with it and it will still hit without running the risk of screwing up your tech and doing momentum shift DJC back airs (like I sometimes do). Your forward tilt usage is good--you're finding great spots to use it and with a high success rate! Try seeing how much more often you can stick it in...I really do think this has its very secure niche value in Yoshi's ground game and it's pivotal for his success against high and top tier.

I liked some of the shield pressure you applied when you got the chance. The spacing was very nice; you made sure to not get grabbed while still applying intelligent pressure. Another step of pressure you might want to consider adding is down tilt before or after a spaced first jab on the shield; it stuffs wavedashing out of shield and tags some pretty decent stun while giving you good time to react to jumping out of shield.

Finally, I do not consider downsmash worth the risk it entails in both the Ganondorf and Captain Falcon matchups. I refrain from using it as much as I possibly can because down tilt does the same job at a lower rewards rate without guaranteeing you eating a KO move if you miss.

Also, I SAW THAT SUPERSHIELD AT THE END OF YOUR FIRST MATCH GOOD STUFF MAYNE! :D

Yoshido, thanks for the kind words :) I realize I was playing perhaps a bit too flashy for my own good :p

Shiri! I'll definitely try to change some stuff (I think I got ***** the most for crouching excessively and throwing unsafe dsmashes like you noted) in my playstyle, thanks for all the advice, you have a keen eye :D

I've been practising supershielding mostly because of your constant raving about it xD and it's definitely paying off, one day I'll be able to supershield every move thrown at me xD

There's some more vids to be uploaded, I myself am looking forward to seeing my matches against Fernandez (a great peach player from aroundhere ) so stay tuned :D

Also there's a big tournament coming up (Armada and other OoC players coming) so let's hope I can get far enough in the bracket to get some stuff recorded :p

Yoshi is easily the most underrated low tier character, no joke. :)

Btw, I remember 1 more thing from my matches with Jeapie. When I got pressured and I tried to create space between us, I remember getting caught a lot by Falcon's aerials, what do you guys normally do in this situation?

:yoshi: Trying to reset is really difficult against Falcon, mostly because of his legs.

I think the best move you have to reset against characters that can chase you down like Falcon can is Egg Lay. I like to wavedash it back, short hop back, or retreating DJC it if I have enough real estate behind me.

Besides that, all I know to do is to panic and either forward tilt or get a stupid lucky upsmash and run for my life, LOL. I think Egg Lay is the best reset against Captain Falcon.

@lordydennek:
now don't go pushing it :p
mid tier (using last tier list as reference) is a bit too high, behind pikachu sounds about right to me.

lolz @ shiri
so running away for your life is the best we can do eh? :p
getting him to chase you and surprising with an upsmash sounds really hot though...
or perhaps even empty DJC to cancel dash to turnaround uptilt for ultimate flashiness :D
Yoshi is so fun to play ^__^

Wow what a flashy Yoshi. And people around here say I'm technical, ha.

One thing to note: against Ganon, when you land the classic bair-utilt at 0%, go for the second utilt, it will work. Every time you got the first part, you tried to do something else and it missed. Maybe it won't work in PAL or something, but it works here every time. The third utilt won't work if the ganon ahs good DI, then you start with the aerials.

As for Falcon, my approach is very very simple. Just hit him with usmash if he comes in with an aerial. Bair him if he doesn't. ftilt to face if he comes from the ground. All three lead to combos if you can hit him, which gets harder if the Falcon is more defensive. In this case I just do my best to space neutral b and make him approach me. There was a Peruvian Yoshi here a while ago who used something similar to great effect.

Are you going to POUND 4? I must fight you to win the rights to use light blue Yoshi. Loser uses dark blue until he regains his honor. Haha just kidding but I do want to play you really badly.
