New video may give another clue that character intros are back...

IKE...

Watch the new Nintendo Conference video. About 2/3 of the way through, right after Lucas' appearance, Ike does a pose where he shoves his sword into the ground, then crosses his arms. If you remember, Sakurai said his Up+B move makes him invulnerable to flinching. I assume that's because, he tosses his sword up in the air, and if he were to get hit during that time, it would make for a really akward animation if his sword just kinda magically appeared back in his hand because he got interrupted during a move where he was seperated from it.

SO....

...if that's a taunt, he either has to be invulnerable to flinching during it, the same way he is for his Up+B, else risk the same akward animation problem -OR- it's just his character intro, and he picks it up again before the match starts and avoids the getting hit problem altogether.

Just something I noticed. Thoughts please!

good logic. sounds right. two potential problems.
1) if you look very closely at the snake trailer, there's a point where snake puts mario down after holding him by the neck, and after he has put him down, mario somewhat awkwardly jumps to his final position-->awkward jumps are possible
2) it could be a new game mechanic, although i personally can't think of what it would be

In your mind!
I was not sure they would not afterall it started with the orginal SSB(i.e. Master Hand) Then after that they added it to virtually every character in melee.

as i posted in another thread multiple things suggest to character intros. Not only do some of these new taunts look like character intros, but if you watch the snake in action trailer, when he stands up from the ground with electricity it definitely looks like a character entrance clip.

i think ikes thing is his taunt BUT character intros are back

in melee/ssb if you hit mario in his taunt he shrunk back straight away
with ganondorf he returned to the ground if the taunt is interrupted

I don't think that character intros are back, I think that is the winning stance. I think that the winning poses are going to be on the stage instead of in a black empty place.

That new video gave outstanding evidence that Character Intros will be returning.

Either that or there is going to be a hell load of new taunts.
Both.

I don't think Ike's was a character intro, it was just a taunt. Pit's, however, was almost definitely a character intro. I've been feeling the return of the intros ever since Snake's footage, though, when they show him emerging from a stealth position. ("Kept you waiting, huh?")

Did anyone else notice? Fox uses the smash ball but you can clearly see Zero Suit Samus. This could mean two things, either there are multiple smash balls per match or ZSS is selectable from the start.

Good point. I noticed it, but it didn't really register in my mind.

Of course, I think it's completely plausable that Smash Balls aren't a one-time-only drop per match anyway.

I didn't even think of that before you mentioned it, I had forgotten she was only accessable after Samus performed her Final Smash. Hopefully, this does mean that Zero Suit Samus will be available outside of the Zero Laser, and that she has her own Final Smash attack.

I'm hijacking your thread because I don't want to start another. There's another issue with the bizarre stuff we saw in the con trailer. I agree that we might be looking at intros...Pit is shown beaming down in light. This could also be a taunt animation, but he comes down from awfully high. The other two are obviously taunts. That might not make sense as a taunt. I also agree about the complications with the Ike thing, unless of course they give him a specific damage animation where he grabs his sword from the taunt.

Also, they could just be using the victory animations (Pika's is the same in Melee's vicory animation as its apparent taunt in the con vid) for illustrative purposes in the con vid. So you can't actually do that mid match. But this would be an unecessary tease, and why not map animations you already made to D-pad buttons.

The biggest thing, though is Peach singing. We have a few options here.
1) These are two unrelated taunts. If you adopt this, then Bowser has a taunt where he dances. Moving on...
2) Peach has a taunt where anyone around her dances, and they only dance for the duration of the taunt, so it is only aesthetic. In team matches, though, this would work as an effective move.
3) New B down, turnips gone, SMB2/DokiDoki Panic fans and tourney players enraged.
4)They pulled a FLUDD, and one of Peach's previous moves (most likely the Bomber) is now an aerial.
5) Everyone has a new special, mapped to A NEW BUTTAN, either X or Y depending on your jump preferences.

I hate all these options.
1)Self-refuting, even though Bowser has gotten more comical over the years, that role has really more been in the RPG/Paper games.
2)Luigi sets a precedent for an taunt with an effect, but this would be far exceeding 1% damage with incredible startup lag.
3)With Toad deconfirmed, no one else could plausibly pull turnips. This is fine, but that was a great reference, and I think the better option is:
4)Seems alright, even if the bomber has an incredibly Pokeball seal animation effect to it now that reeks of special move. Let's go through all of them. If Parasol is now an aerial, then this is odd, as we now have an aerial as a recovery, where the B up is now not a recovery. Revolutionary, but not game breaking. If bomber is replaced, then a stationary singing move is now the B over. Seems a bit odd. Toad isn't an aerial now, because we've seen it used on the ground. Turnip can't be an aerial because they come from the ground.
5) This was my idea since mid-06, but the WROIS (Wii Remote on its side) option broke it. There aren't enough buttons to have another special button. With D-pad being both move and jump, then 1 and 2 being A and B, that leaves the A button to function as the shield, with minus as a taunt and plus as pause/start. They could try to use B for a new, non-directional special, but I wonder how easy it would be to hit. They could do a combo, like shield plus special gives the new non-directional special, but this complicates the issue even more. Not that Wrois had a shot at being any good anyway.
6) It could be her grab. Anyone in range starts dancing, and if you walk over to them and press it again, she does something vicious. I always though Mewtwo's grab should have been something like Disable in the game/cartoon, where the character is paralyzed and you can simply toss them from where you are standing.

Yeah, I can't see why there'd only be 1 per match.

There is no possible way that Pit's descent (no pun intended) is a taunt. Well, there is, but it seems too slow to be one. Most likely, it'll be a character intro.

It's a shame... this game really shows how rushed Melee was...
