new to the smash64 scene

Hi, I'm new to smash64 (at least competitively, I've been playing the game since I was like 7) and I haven't really decided on a main, so if you guys have any pro's or con's for characters

Play whoever you want to play. Every character can be viable. Most people seem to go pikachu, kirby, or falcon for competitive.

It's really just a matter of personal preference. If you want there are tons of tier threads out there that can help you analyze character attributes and decide in further detail.

-common:
-easy to use:
-good recovery:
-easy combo potential:
-high tech ceiling:

Aren't Link and Samus the only non-viable ones?

Yeah, apparently Smash 64 is the most balanced Smash game, next to Smash 4.

I think starting options are either Mario, Pikachu or Falcon. Just to get a good feeling of using them in a competitive manner. Luigi and Ness can be a pain to start with but the rewards can be great! I say good luck to ya buddy! I hope you get many an Up B with that Luigi! always hypes the hell outta me.

If you are referring to the Hori Minipad, then yes it's good. The problem is that you'll pay anywhere from $80 to $100 for one of these controllers.

In what condition are the controllers you already possess? Would you prefer to play with an actual Gamecube controller?
