Hey guys,

Just went to my first ever tournament, Fight Pit 3 in Pittsburgh. M2K and Mango were both there which was awesome.

BUTT anywho I saw a lot of sheik mains including m2k. Im really really new to competitive melee, and only just learned about tech skills about a month ago.

Can anyone give me a basic tech skill guide for sheik?
Or how she can match up against a falco/fox?
Spacing and how it helps?

Just really basic stuff for now, dont wanna get overwhelmed.
:)

The best you can do at first is learn to wavedash, L-cancel, and JC grab, and watch a TON of mew2king videos; he's the only truly good Sheik right now. You can look him up as m2k sheik or mew2king sheik, I recommend searching by date; you can also scout his matches out on tournament streams if they're not uploaded.

I'd encourage you to play Sheik as she's an extremely good character, although she's one of the toughest to learn and not a crowd favorite.

Some people believe Falco vs Sheik to be even, I personally think it's her worst match-up (slightly disadvantageous). Fox is easier though (from pretty even to slightly good for us).

I could try to type the most I can about the Fox and Falco match-ups, but any match-up in Melee is just so incredibly complex that I'd never finish. The following could help though:

Watch how M2K....
  • reacts upon blocking shines or short hop aerials (rolls/wavedashes away or nairs).
  • edgeguards the opponent
  • tech chases the opponent
  • uses needles against Falco (2 needles is enough for one to wipe out a laser and the other to reach the opponent)
  • camps the ledge against Falco

Read the stickies and play the game. Learn tech skill and how the game works and enjoy yourself, you'll get better. It's not a magical transformation but something that requires years of hardwork. Welcome to the melee community.
