New Smash icon indicative of online play?

I noticed a similarity between the loading icon on the Wii shop channel (and on the first version of the internet channel) and the SSB icon at SmashBros. Dojo. The title at the top of the page seems to be encircled by a form of the loading icon.

I understand that Brawl has been promised online play, but I don't think it's been spoken of since E3 2005, but I may be wrong.

Online play wasn't promised. Sakurai said he would attempt to make Brawl online, but no promises.

During the E3 when the Wii was announced it was specifically said that Super Smash Bros will be an online launch title. 2 days after that Iwata hired Sakurai to make the game.

It's going to be online. And if its not we'll just kidnap has family and tell him to try again.

It's just a graphic, and a fairly simple one at that. It doesn't inherently mean something is online. Sometimes people use those kinds of things because they look cool.

I took it as an indication, not a confirmation. A possibly or mayhaps.

Everything Nintendo has said concerning Brawl being online is that it might happen. Nothing is confirmed.

Nice catch on the logo. It's good to know somebody is trying to decipher something other than a large list of composers.
