I kinda laugh a little when Sakurai mentioned the tight schedule. He does know that balancing and even new characters can be released after the game is via updates, right? If not, somebody out to tell him. They could use the months after release to add in characters that were cut. :)
I think they're aiming to get the game as perfect as possible on release date. I would prefer them to delay the game in lieu of updates because updates will take up disk space, I'm sure, and it'll just lead to DLC which would just end up being "give me more money, damn it" in disguise of a differently dressed Mario.

"wah some people didn't like Brawl as much as Melee, what a bunch of elitists!"
enjoy your next game on a dead ****ing console, Nintendrones are hilarious when it comes to defending their precious company
Well done, you waved your e-peen around on a thread which has nothing to do with that.

Come to think of it, most of you are unnecessarily de-railing the thread to flex your "i'm right, melee/brawl is better, shove it" and similar muscles.

The 20 character figure looks to just be more of a target than a limit, even though that's what he calls it. And, if going by the past two games is any indication, they'll try to overshoot it. Nonetheless, they "remake them completely each time" so focusing on less characters would leave more time to make the roster more balanced and interesting.

Exzactly.......Gameplay & Balance > Everything Else.

Asides from the actual gameplay of the game, other things are nice. 313 music pieces, Nintendo's history catalog in trophy form, every artwork I'd ever want in stickers, and every other 1-player-mode-turned-co-op is nice. I quite like the stage builder, replays, or daily data downloads that went on for a while.

Still a great party game, and the trips get hacked away at tourneys.

While I do agree, just please don't start this again.

In terms of what the games have to offer, Brawl went over the top with material.

I'm hoping some of those nice things return for Smash 4, but I hope Sakurai spends more time focusing on gameplay and character balancing issues than the other content.
(Subspace Emissary was incredible, but obviously a lot of time was spent on it)

It seems like he is in a different mindset with this one with only the picture updates for the dojo. Much easier to do daily than creating a whole post.

Try to remember, Melee players are exactly what they say they are... Melee players. I don't expect Melee players to move on to the next Smash at all.

Despite Brawls easier reputation, it is still a respectably deep game that has - though not as steep as Melee- quite the gap between Nub players and Pro players.

ALL Y'ALL! SHUT UP!

No seriously, everyone. Shut up. There are people who like Brawl, there are people who like Melee. Let's all agree to disagree and continue on with the actual topic of conversation.

Honestly, I'd love to have had more characters, but if the balance between the characters this time is good, then I wouldn't mind having less characters too much.

Of course had more content, Brawl was released in 2008, over a year after Wii's launch. Melee was released 2 weeks after the Gamecube launched and roughly 2 years after the N64 installment. Not to mention it was on a next-gen console for the time.

Just because the game likely wasn't aimed at you doesn't mean that hard work wasn't put into it. It was a much bigger project than Melee was, just look at everything that's in the game, just from every character to every stage to SSE, even if you didn't like it there's no doubt the game was twice as content packed as Melee. Sure Melee's development was much more cruel, but that's because they had to get the game ready for the GC's launch, so there was a tight deadline. With Brawl the deadline wasn't as tight, so they had much time to develop a game that was nearly twice as big. Sorry, but you're really just downright disrespectful and ungrateful.
I've seen this guy going around talking bad. Just ignore him.
