Hey all,

I wanted to shed light on some new ledge options ness can perform in Smash 4.

In brawl and in smash 4, ness's ledge game is pretty good compared to some characters. you can do things like drop/fast fall to double jump aerials, jump from the ledge into PK Fire with no lag, PK jump from the ledge which will lunges you pretty far. However, sometimes it is very hard to get back on the stage from the ledge as it is difficult to space properly without dropping and wasting your double jump. This can easily lead into the opponent just shield grabbing you, or camp you with projectiles to prevent you from getting back on the stage.

this is where I ran into PSI magnet. In smash 4, there is a new property on PSI magnet where if you use it right after a jump (I believe double jump doesn't work though, only the initial jump), you will float upwards. If you ledge jump and cancel it right into a PSI Magnet, you can get on the stage while retaining your double jump. This can help fake out opponents, allowing you to punish. You can even reverse down-b to show your back to them, and proceed to bair your opponent.

This tech can be very useful against enemies with energy based projectiles such as samus, megaman, etc.

Also, if done correctly, you will be at the optimal height to fair/bair towards the stage with no landing lag, allowing you to follow up with ground moves. Since you still have your double jump, you can even PK Jump out of it.

Yes it is a situational tech, but it is good to have one more option when on the ledge.

I'll try to get a vid later today, but it is fairly easy to perform.

For ledge recovery with PSI Magnet, is Ness vulnerable in the window between when he starts the ledge jump and when he can perform PSI Magnet?

And in addition to PSI Magnet making you float up if used right after a ground-initiated jump, here are some PSI Magnet properties I mentioned before during the JP release:

- If you use PSI Magnet immediately after his second jump, it will halt all momentum (works up until his head passes the 6 o'clock position during his double jump animation)
- If you release B at any point before landing (regardless of the "exiting PSI Magnet" animation), you will have minimal landing lag

that's a good question and I don't know the answer off the top of my head. do you retain invuln when you ledge jump? if so then I would imagine you're invuln for a short period

so i dont understand, doing magnet when you are in air is like momentum so you can slow the konckback and bait your opponet also?

no, this technique is just another option when you are on the ledge to be able to get on stage via jump, but with the added benefit of being able to absorb any incoming projectiles and/or react/punish with aerials including bair (which you would not be able to do from the ledge otherwise).
