Well it looks like we are getting a new kind of mine. It look interesting, especially since it becomes invisible, and if your not paying attention, you going to get stuck. Lets hope your opponent doesn't have the home run bat as well.

this item is just like the freezie,
DK's Stage is the new Icicle Mountain.
there is an animal crossing stage.

anyone else think that the Male/Female chars from Animal Crossing will replace the IC's?

However, unlike the freezie, it can't but destroyed so easily and it can lye in wait for someone to run over it. It also apparently has an ability if it directly hitting someone, that is different from its normal ability.

I think the direct hit ability acts just like the trap ability. It is different from a Freezie though. Falling through platforms? That's hilarious.

if u played Animal crossing u would know what it's like. It's not really a freeze cus u wont be koed while in it. it's more like DK's Forward B, only that it probably take longer to strugle.

PLEA TO THE MODS: I know someone will close down this thread and direct people to the official item thread, but I say: why fight it? People clearly want to discuss specific items and stages after they are announced, just as they do specific characters in the Brawl character discussion section. So I say let them have their fun. Let this thread live.

The pitfall is very awesome. Interesting how it is now the only way to pass through platforms.

I think what it means is that getting hit by the Pitfall forces you to fall through any semisolid platforms you land on.

What would happen if you threw it at them and they were on a level like Corneria from Melee, just standing there on the Arwings?

No, but why would Sakurai go to the trouble of pointing out that this item allows characters to pass through platforms if they could do so anyway?

Well, it seems that it lets characters go through the bottom platforms that you normally can't go through by pressing down.

Hmm... I re-read the update, and I think you're probably right. It does refer to "pass through floors" so there you go. My bad.

I wouldn't bet on an animal crossing character unless Mr. Resetti becomes the new gag character.

Hmm this item doesn't seem that great for sum1 that hasn't played animal crossing.

How can we know it's effect at fist glance? I mean the item looks like this:

(!)

In Super Mario Bros 3 we had a similar item, but it had a different effect.

I have no problem with the effect, but the item choice is poor on that one.

Its called "Pitfall", that kinda leads to the idea.

I think you guys are interpreting how the item works wrongly.

You throw it on the floor, and if it's on a platform you can't normally pass through, a character who walks onto it gets stuck, and will be vulnerable to attacks.

If it's thrown onto a platform you can pass through, walking over it will cause you to fall through.

It won't make you fall through normal floors, nor does it mean that we can't pass through floors anymore.

you can't make em fall through stages, only through platforms you can fall through...

if the pitfall is placed on the stage, when your opp steps on it he'll only get stuck inside the stage
I think the stuck part is way better than. I think I might just have a match with bombs and pitfalls, that way you get owned but the bomb barrage

I remember back in the Dreamcast days, a game called Power Stone 2 had an item named "Pitfall" that worked very much like SSBBs. The only difference is they look different and you fall from the top of the stage when you step inside it in Power Stone 2.

It'd be interesting to see if it works in levels (like DK's in the SSB) where you can pass through the bottom when trying to recovery. Maybe Pit's stage when the solid platforms are broken?

I'm going to get a kick out of this item, but I like the idea of suprising my opponent by having them phase through certain platforms more then just trapping them.

Presumably, on a floor you can't pass through, the Pitfall will function exactly the same as Donkey Kong's forward-B. The character will get stuck, but will have a brief flash of invulnerability when he/she breaks out. So, it'll be hard to hit them with a smash attack or Homerun Bat when they do get out.
