New-ish to Project M. Got some question/concerns.

I dunno if anyone remembers me making a topic in the summer, saying I got Project M working on the WiiU but it kept freezing. I gave up, but with Roy and Mewtwo coming out I had to give it another chance. So I bought a new SD card. Got it working for a nice amount of matches. Turned it off and came back to it a bit later, and started freezing again. Since I had a mac, I tried using my cousin's PC to download Project M. Worked slightly better, but barely. I figured the only way to get it working was to get a Wii, and I found one for 40 dollars and got it. Tried Project M and so far it's been working fine again. The real test is to see if it works next time I boot it up. Now I just have some questions and concerns:

1. Does playing around with some of the options in the game potentially mess Project M up and possibly be the cause of the freezing? (Music, rules, etc.)

2. Should nothing else be on the SD card that has Project M? I know custom stages can't. Anything else though like save data?

3. Will Mewtwo and Roy be available in any single player modes mainly classic, all star, and/or SSE?

4. Will Mewtwo and Roy have Final Smashes? And will Charizard, Squirtle, and Ivysaur ever get Final Smashes?

5. There anyway to have some of the music that Project added in chosen when to be played? (Like the Metal Mario battle music for Metal Cavern)

6. Since I got it on the Wii now, it's ok if I leave the SD card in the Wii yes?

7. I love essentially all the changes Project M has made, one change I didn't like however was making Falco more of a clone of Fox again. I thought Falco was generally considered good/balanced in Brawl. Howcome they chose to do this, and is there any chance they'll change him back to Brawl's version but altered?

8. Finally, I thought I heard Waluigi may be added to Project M in the future. Is that true or rumored?

Sorry if it's a lot or common questions. Figured I'd just knock em all out in one topic. Thanks.

1. No.
2. You can have other files on the SD card besides the Project M files.
3. In 3.0, as long as the mode allows you to choose your character at the Character Selection Screen, yes. Otherwise, modes like SSE that do not use the CSS, you cannot use Roy/M2.
4. Mewtwo and Roy will have final smashes. If we can solve that at some point in the future, we will.
5. Download a BRSTM file and place it in the sound folder and label the file to be the correct name for the song slot.
6. Yes, you can leave the SD card in the wii.
7. It is highly unlikely we will change Falco that much from his Melee version.
8. That is just a rumor.

Trust us: You do not want Brawl Falco. His reflector is completely terrible (and therefore not worthy of being called a shine). Besides, Melee Falco is actually functionally very different from Melee Fox.

Yeah I get how you mean Melee Falco's reflector is better. For me, I guess I found the Brawl one more functional and a lot cooler to boot. But if the real problem with him was the reflector, why were other things changed as well? It's whatever though. I use Wolf the most (hence my avatar lol) and Project M made him even better IMO so that's what really matters for me.

I also figured the FS's weren't really touched upon because no one really uses them. Which is understandable. But sometimes me and friends feel like playing with them on, and it's a shame since whoever uses Squirtle, Charizard, and Ivysaur would kinda be at a disadvantage. (I use Charizard a lot) And I'd love to see Roy and Mewtwo's especially since they'd be something fresh. Would a simple solution for the PT pokemon's FS just be to give them each the beam they fired in PT's Final Smash? I mean hell I'd love for Charizard and Mewtwo to have one of his mega forms, but the former I'd think is probably easier and they could be trending into Smash 4 territory since they're likely things that could be added.

Btw what's a BRSTM file? Brawl soundtrack file or something?

I got one more question, and possibly another if it came to my mind. If I wanna do Brawl hacks like skins and characters, would I just get hack my wii with homebrew and get them normally like I would to normal Brawl?

The Melee Falco moveset is necessary to bring back the Melee Falco playstyle. Also, after Brawl+ went down, Project M started as a smaller project to replicate Melee Falco for Vanilla Brawl, so it wouldn't make much sense to betray the origin/inspiration of the whole thing.
A brstm is a music track with the file type .strm.
For custom skins/music, just put the stuff in the right folders in your SD card. If you are already using the hackless PM method, there's no need to get the Homebrew Channel.

You don't need to hack your Wii to use custom content. Project M includes the file replacement code so just put all your music and textures and skins and whatever in the correct folder and it will work just like Brawl.

A BRSTM is a Brawl music file. To start you can find a lot of them at http://brawlcustommusic.com/. Alternatively you could download a precompiled collection of BRSTMs here and just drop it on your SD card. Easy as Sheik.

Ah well. I do like that he has the blue laser instead of the red one still. Nice little aesthetic.

Oh crap, seriously?! That's awesome! Only thing, if I download a newly made character, say Ridley, does that mean I can't just add him in the game, he'd have to replace a character?

Falco was changed to be his melee self for the same reasons every other character was changed, melee had different physics and mechanics so brawl characters wouldnt translate very well into the melee environment. And Falco is very different from Fox, there moves look the same but they are very different.

One of the main goals of P:M was to restore the top tier Melee characters to their former glory. Falco is one of those characters. I bet they could give Brawl Falco a Melee feel and an entirely new play style and be just as awesome as Melee Falco. but in an effort to bring over strict melee players, Falco's Melee style is needed.

I think that would be a neat side project, A Meleefied Brawl Falco.

1. no, format your SD card and put the files on again if you have crashing issues

2. wrong, custom stages CAN be on the card, as long as you are using the homebrew method. hackless requires no custom stages though.

3. solo mode is dumb, it doesn't matter

4. final smashes are dumb, it doesn't matter

5. yes, there's a way to get any music you want on any stage you want, and you know there is. if you're talking about having your favourite track play all the time on a particular stage, you can do that through the options menu

6. no you have to take the SD card out and keep it in an airtight container. SD cards oxidize very rapidly and it will turn to dust if you leave it in your wii

7. if you think falco is a fox clone then you have an extremely limited understanding of the game

8. neither true nor rumored

... you know, just saying: how do we really know this?

For sake of argument, I don't think much if any of the characters that aren't blatant newcomers to brawl had their brawl mechanics really tested (to the public's knowledge) in P:M's engine...

Ganon's flame choke is one small example of why that's not completely true, although I get what you're saying and there's some truth to it for sure

Ganon's flame choke AND all his brawl animations, many of which were kept or modified
PMBR also stated that they tinkered with keeping some of falco's brawl animations, but that most wouldn't work the same except jab

That issue is exactly why the clone engine was made. It will take a while to be ready for public use, unfortunately. It takes even a skilled clone engine wizard (there's only like two in the world) an hour to clone a character with the current setup. I haven't seen Dantarion's full demonstration, but I assume what happens is that the engine provides an additional copy of a character that can be independently modified. Then, Brawl has seven unused character slots (hence the forbidden seven) that can be filled with clones. Roy and Mewtwo take up two slots.

Well I already had the questions answers but thanks......I guess.

Not EVERYONE thinks 3 and 4 is true, maybe on this site but not everyone that plays Smash. I usually play with FS's off but sometimes I like to mix it up, especially with characters that weren't in Brawl.

I'm gonna assume 6 is sarcastic. I really just don't wanna **** up my wii or the SD card and I'm new to this kind of stuff.

And I know functionally he is not a clone. But how am I supposed to say it? Aesthetically a clone? My point is that I liked it when he was OVERALL a bit more different from Fox that's what I'm saying.

@flowteau-Ah ok, so basically for now if I get a new hacked in character (Waluigi, Shadow, Ridley, etc.) they would have to replace an existing character, but in the future there may be a way for it to not be that way?

Pm will fix solo modes and final smashes, they want pm to be a complete game, i doubt they would leave those out

And you should learn how to use brawlbox and do basic hacking stuff, like replacing music, textures, and stages. Its very easy and you can customize pm to fit your personal style

Yeah, but hopefully Ridley will someday be an official part of Project M. I doubt Waluigi will make it to be honest. He's complete filler. I actually think he'd be good in Smash to represent Mario Party/Kart/ Team sports, but that moveset would require too many projectiles to be possible in PM.

Well, animations are one thing, but changing what the moves *do* is another.

Ganon is a good example of exploring what the brawl version actually gave both Mechanically (Side B) and aesthetically (Tilts having brawl animations but melee hits, as far as I know).

But then there are guys like Lucas who had TOTALLY changed aerials for really no reason, and even then recently got changed back. More currently, Yoshi had his aerial "Egg toss hop" removed for... what reason again?

Ah that's right, the other question came to mind. What costumes are being added in to 3.0?

I know of:

-Dry Bowser
-That Peach one with a high collar
-Melee Link
-Melee Fox
-Dr. Mario

I actually liked Falco's Brawl reflector. I get WHY they changed it back, but I wish they would have given the kick reflector to somebody else. Wolf would have been cool for that (essentially a blank slate to work with), but whatever. It was a cool mechanic that had potential to be integrated, even with a different character.

Ah that would've been really sick to give it to Wolf! Since he's more brutal and all. But yeah I get why they did what they did.

So far we've seen:
- Mario: Dr. Mario
- Luigi: Mr. L
- Bowser: Dry Bowser
- Peach: Shadow Queen
- Fox: Melee Fox
- Falco: Melee Falco (I believe, not sure)
- Link: Ocarina of Time Link
- Toon Link: Outset Toon Link
- Pikachu: Party Hat Pikachu
- Jigglypuff: Crown Jigglypuff
- Squirtle: Sunglasses Squirtle
- Mewtwo: Armored Mewtwo
- ROB: Virtual Boy ROB
- Snake: Pokemon Trainer

There you go! :D

^Thanks.

That's ****ing sick Mewtwo is getting Armored Mewtwo. I didn't expect him or Roy to get costumes yet. That's also cool that Squirtle is getting the sunglasses as an alt so I won't have to do the taunt trick. And LOL @ Snake being Pokemon Trainer.

Hopefully in a future update we'll get Melee Ganondorf and/or Fierce Diety Link. Worse to comes worse I just find skins of them to download.

Sunglasses Squirtle is already in the game, I doubt they'd make it a full costume.
The poke trainer snake was just a gag for the mewtwo trailer.

Honestly you should follow the brawlbox advice. I'm ultra noob but even I was able to add a costume to every single alt color slot with matching portrait, add a stage expansion replacing half it along the way, and change about 80% of the music in the game. All of this I did on top of PM 2.6. It was pretty much a brand new game. They make it really easy and there's a lot of people willing to help over at BrawlVault.

Will Melee players give me dirty looks if I change Fox's costume back to Brawl Fox?

I'm glad Crown Jigglypuff is coming back. I need her back in my life.

Brawl Fox is still the default. Melee Style Fox is only an alternate costume. Nothing is lost, only gained, by it's inclusion.

Cool. So when I wanna do that, I download them, I replace music, themes, costumes with them right? Or do I just throw them in the folders and I'm done?

Please no! As a wolf main in both Brawm and PM, i'm completely against that! ... unless the kick is optional part of the move, but then you can just give it to falco.

Well, it's too late now. I said IF they were to do that, I'd put it on Wolf, since he wasn't in Melee and therefore a clean slate. But I'm sure by now, Wolf mains would be against it.
