sorry if its already been said

but what if the special moves had to be charged by hitting you opponent like in street fighter alpha
or summin like that

and the super smash symbol item was just to quickly fill it up

I don't like this idea. I'm for anything that differentiates between Smash and other fighting series.

Besides, some pro players will whine about the big special attacks "breaking the game", and if they're an item they can just turn them off along with all the other items.

Why does people just say "I'm sorry", they just try to not make people mad? Search button is very simple, just freakin use it.

I agree items are suppose to make the game fun.

As I always say"They wouldn't put in the game if you couldn't use it":rocket:

I don't like to use items. The majority of the skill is hand to hand combat using the characters techniques. The only thing I think is cheap is Marth's counter! It would be better to put the special attacks by themselves and not as items because then you would actually need to do something instead of run around and get the item.

Well it'd be pretty hard to get a smash emblem unless it dropped right infront of you. EVERYBODY would go for it, like they do with hammers, pokeballs, food/healing items and stars.

They could even program the AI to make the emblems a priority target.

impressing the crowd is a bad idea.
they only get impressed when a character gets one weak attack on a character over 150%
yoiu could combo the **** out of you opponent (which is more cheer worthy) and get nothing.
The crowds AI sucks
items take some skill, but for the most part if you are significantly closer when it pops up you get the item.
items unbalance the game.
they make it dependant on luck, not skill

This arguement is stupid. There is a fence and there are people on either side of it, with no room for in between

Noobs (like items) /////////////// Competitors (dont like items)

The noobs are just gonna keep saying items take skill and are fun and stuff, and will continue to make posts about why items should be allowed. The competitors will continue to not use them in tournaments or in any game that actually matters. If you are of the liking items crowd, go post somewhere else seriously. Go to the nintendo forums or something. Smash boards is for people who want to play competitively so seriously just stop posting here since you arent of that mindset.

As far as the adrenaline bar. Why would you want something that is gonna turn this game into a street fighter clone? Keep it original **** it.

^^^I am a serious player and I've won tournaments without items, but I think they take skill as well. If we based the game around people who wouldn't wanna change anything, then Brawl would be the same as Melee except with more chars and stages and whatnot. And if you think that items should be removed, you have to realize that items are as much a valuable part of smash bros as any other aspect.

Stupid idea. Smash is smash, SF is SF. I love both, but a chargeable combo system just isn't the kind of gameplay smash is built on.

The beautiful thing in smash is the elaborate combos you can make with your characters moveset on it's own. It takes skill to be able to read DI and act accordingly to get each succesive hit in your combo. Hence the 100s of combo videos online

The blocking system in street fighter is much simpler and throws are not at all the same, so getting in a super combo in streetfighter is tough since you have to break the guys defence, and immediatly buffer in the super combo, something most average players can't do, I know I cant, on arcade anyway im a good consol SF player :)

Also, street fighter has a health guage system and Smash bros has a knockback system, so that change's the function of the super combo entirely aswell.

Good thread, 208 combo videos, check it out :)

No, don't take out items from smash bros. Just keep them out of tournaments. That's all I am saying. I don't know about everyone else though...

Quoted for truth. Items are fine, I dont like them but I dont think they should be removed from the game. They can be turned on and off so I see no problem in having options for all the players out there, but items aren't in tournaments now, and chances are things wont mysteriously change for brawl tournaments.

It's funny how people who can't compete in Melee currently due to lack of skill choose to shun advanced techniques and have some sort of pipe-dream where Super Smash Bros Brawl will be a haven for noobs, and everyone can become pro calibur.

Wont happen, chances are if you're bad at melee, you'll be bad a brawl. A pro scene will arise, and again chances are most of us will not be among the elite in that pro scene. I would be very suprised if the brawl pro scene decided to have items in tourneys when it has been otherwise in the most recent smash brothers game for YEARS now.

Since I don't know how to seperatly quote, I'll just copy and paste.

I agree 100%. That's where my point of view is. Items should be allowed for players that do like them and for players that don't, its an easy concept, turn them off. There should be some tourneys though that allow items. There should be different types. If you want to enter, then enter, but if not, then enter 1 without items.
