Today we've officially released the new version of the SWF Friend Finder. It's been in private and public beta testing for the last few weeks, and we're proud to make it the new, official version.

The new Friend Finder features a slew of new features, including:

  • Built-in chat. Talk to other users in real time without starting up AIM or MSN. Talk match settings, or talk smack. (Or the weather. It's really up to you.)
  • Instant updates. See people come online the moment they come online; get challenges the moment they're sent. No more waiting. The new Friend Finder is entirely a real-time experience.
  • Improved challenge system. All challenges automatically create a new chat room. Want a 2v2? No need for everyone to send out individual challenges to everyone else--one person just needs to challenge everyone, and they'll all be invited to the same chat room. Stepping out? No need to worry about missing a challenge--set yourself as "Online" instead of "Seeking Brawl" and no one will be able to send you challenges while you're away. And yes--once you've accepted, the system will still automatically make sure you get the friend codes you need to battle.
  • Battle preferences. Make it easier for potential challengers to learn about you by setting your preferences. Want items off, counterpick stages, and 1v1 matches in North America? You got it. Your preferences will show up in your extended userbox--just give your name a click on the user list to check it out.
  • Other goodies. Chat windows can be minimized to make more room on screen, and can even be dragged around the window (not supported in IE). Don't know when a message came in? Hover over it to check its timestamp. Don't recognize that guy who sent you a challenge? Click his name and be whisked away to his entry on the list of users.
For more information about the Friend Finder, check out the new Friend Finder FAQ. To load the Friend Finder, click "Friend Finder" under "Connect" on the top menu (if you're using the Revolution style), see this FAQ, or simply surf on over here. (Since the Friend Finder is optimized for use in a narrow pop-up window, you'll probably have a better experience using one of the first two options.)
