OH NOESSSSSSS!!

Yes, Pika's fsmash at the edge to thwart recoveries is absolutely broken. His back throw is beast. His utilt is quite good, use it to set up for uair-chain combos because good players will DI out of utilt "combos".

I have this niggling feeling your friend Dane might not actually be that good... spend some time on here learning stuff, play online with others, you'll be beating him regularly soon enough I'd imagine.

Anyway in terms of learning Pikachu there's your number one first stop to learning ANY character in this game of Smash64...

... watch Isai videos.

Isai's pikachu is arguably his best character, you will learn a lot from watching that. Just search Isai pika on Youtube and you're good to go.
As a first step, this will be useful.
Afterwards, you'll want to learn some basic combos and then play online is the next step - but I would recommend only starting to play online once you can beat everyone you know in real life. This is so you don't come on and get 100% overwhelmed by everyone thus learning nothing. Being 80% overwhelmed is acceptable haha. (This is assuming that no one you play in real life ALSO plays online. If they do, then I guess that rule is moot.)

when people start calling you out for playing pikachu you're going to want to learn to kick their *** without using fsmash or backthrow haha (not like thats hard, just throwing that twenty second fsmash over the edge is a little tricky on the timing...)

Lol...if you want to learn Pika, stop using what your friend told you. Those are just Pika's shortcut ways to winning against noobs. You have to learn how to setup, and maybe memorise some damage levels.

Out of those three, U-tilt is the trickiest to get down, and probably the most important. It's for setting up aerials, and Pika has some of the better ones in-game, especially U-Air and N-Air.

F-Smash is edgeguard/mindgaming only. Pivot an approacher with it, or just stand on the edge and use it to own any recoverers.

B-Throw is hi-damage KO material, and it sets up edgeguards.

If you want to get good quick, watch videos of Isai on Youtube. He knows the right stuff to do. Compliment this by playing online, because getting owned by better players is the best path to getting better.

well, he was just gettiung me started for the night, it was my first time playing and he was the only good one there.
@Daedatheus: as for your niggling feeling, he goes to college with umbreon mow (or however its spelled )and plays with, or at least used to, if thats any kind of indicator.
he also used to play with some guy named mark, that was even better and played ness.
this is all i know.

and also, i will only be playing offline as i dont even own a 64.

That doesn't mean a thing. As far as we know Umbreon is average at best at ssb64. The only thing it indicates is that he has basic smash knowledge that carried over from melee, like Lcancelling and such.
