There needs to be something beyond very hard that will challenge advanced players. Right now there is:

Very Easy
Easy
Normal
Hard
Very Hard

I think a new difficulty that should be added on is Crazy; the highest to go. It should be a locked difficulty until you beat very hard.

They don't need extra difficulty levels, they just need to make the AI smarter on the higher ones.

The number doesn't do anything when the engine is limited. They could have made 100 difficulty but what would be the point? 9 would still be the closest to a human's mind (which would be 100 here). Although the Wii hasn't much improved from the GCN, the cpu will be smarter at 9 and having more numbers won't change anything.

Very true. But there is still the issue of online lag.
Some people won't like it and would rather play computers.
nah, that just how difficult they should be in terms of number but I guess it doesn't matter since numbers really don't have anything to do with it, the numbers are really just based on the game's engine

The only way they'd be able to make CPUs stronger beyond their limited capacity would be to increase the power shielding rate... which would just be extremely irritating and unrealistic to play against.

Are you guys idiots?

Yes... ='(

Anyways, I think that their should be a difficulty setting that's about as hard as Very Hard, and you get only one stock and no chance to continue. Also, you start off at 300% damage, and there are hundreds of Bombs and Pokeballs.

GO!

I could never beat all stars in very hard... G &W always pwned me lol... thank god you could get the Mew trophy on Hard difficulty, on topic I think is a good idea, but it applies more to adventure games, fighting games usually have the difficulties set to go.

You can hardly calling it adding a new difficulty. That's just removing one difficulty and adding another one.

Maybe "Very Easy" was considered to be WAY too easy to warrant being in the game - I mean everyone died with one or two hits on Very Easy in Melee and they barely fought back, let alone defend themselves.

I bet "Easy" in Brawl will be similar to "Easy" in Melee, so "Intense" will be significantly harder than "Very Hard," at least based on my theory. :)

There are pretty interesting researches going on in my college about connecting a network of neurons to an MEA. This MEA interconnects with the neurons creating a 'living neural network.' This network is able, so far, to adapt to a simulated, computerized airplane and went from crashing many times to being able to survive through gale force winds.
Imagine if that network were put into Brawl's computers! They could adapt to our playing styles and kill everyone. Now thats a good challenge!

Common Misconception: AI has very little to do with the hardware of a game console, and a whole lot to do with the code behind it.

Edit: Also, the Wii is a good step up from the GCN, stop passing along that misconception as well.

i dont think im gonna try intense too much. It will probably be one of my favorite features, but if its harder than 'very hard'...thats even more frustration....and i can only take so much frustration x|

it mostly cause i hate the game over screen where i have to pay money to continue!

I'm sure if they were going to just keep the actual difficulty values, they wouldn't have bothered to rename the scheme of the difficulty levels.

I just hope, you can make the computers do moves, like stand there and shield grab, or shoot stuff at you so you can practice powersihelding, or down smash so you can practice teching and stuff on your own, because we can just play online now for practice against people.

I hope they actually increase the IQ level of the computer players. Level 9 link's and samus's just using their grappling hooks/beams consistently as a method of attack...they SUCKED, way too predictable. And then you had certain computer players that just made some REALLY dumb moves off the edge or when trying to come back to the stage. I just want level 9..or Intense, in this case, to be phenominally harder then what they were in smash. Truely make them something worth practicing against.

That's a good call as well.

The thing is with Super Smash Bros. Melee was this one factors that made matches boring with coms:

The Levels: The levels were too complicated for coms. Hyrule and Corneria to be exact, I can't even count the amount of times Kirby was high above me at the path leading to the lower part of the stage and used his Down + B only to slide all the way to the bottom to his death, or the amount of times i have seen fox get stuck in between the cockpit of the ship and the laser cannon and repeatedly double jump off the laser cannon only to realize have way he won't make and use his Up + B diagonally back to the laser cannons.

What i have noticed in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is that the level design is much more simple in it's layout

They've added Intense, but removed Very Easy? That's just not right to be removing the easiest difficulty level.
