New characters for tournaments

I'd like to know what people think about adding new characters that are balanced to tournaments. My main concern for this idea is Zero(his current state). I know the characters constantly get changed in Brawl+ but I don't think it's a bad idea about adding new moveset characters to tournaments for regular brawl if they don't break the game in any way(Diddy:Items).

He has good attacks, amazing recovery, but he can't kill. I don't know of anything that he has like an infinite or cheap setup.....but we have Falco, DDD, a million things banned, etc.

The only real thing I can see against him being in is if he was broken, which he isn't. Also the arguement that he wasn't in the game to begin with. That would be true but a majority of the stuff in the game is already banned in "competitive" play. Not to mention dumb stages are allowed at events some times. There are complaints for sure, but people go anyway.

Theres also the fact that everyone who owns brawl might not have access to this character for w/e reason. They may not want the wii hacked, etc. I don't really see this as a big deal but I can't speak for everyone.

I'm sure there is a ton more to consider if it was actually possible to have hosts to start allowing Zero but that is the point of this thread. More concerns and ideas would be nice. At very least it would be nice to have a side event where these characters(Zero and others) could compete. Low tier events are side events and pretty common. THEY ARE NOT FUN. The people entering know they can either try to kill 4 hours sitting around getting kicked off setups or just play a cheap event for the hell of it. Everyone else enters bc they know they have a good shot at winning. It's simple.

Any comments, especially from hosts and intelligent people are appreciated.

i really like the idea of having a side event where hacked characters can be played. once there is a large cast of new characters that are agreed upon by the majority, i think it would be very cool to start having tournaments where only they can be played.
there will be lots of people complaining about zero being allowed in tournament play, but i actually think he's a really fun character and would love to see him as a playable character in tournaments.
it's up to the TOs, though, of course. hopefully some will decide to do SOMETHING with these new characters.

i think it's the lack of accessibility that would turn a lot of people away from this idea. i certainly wouldn't want to enter a tournament that allowed characters i'd never played as or against. for all i know my character has a 0-100 matchup against them, and the only way i'd be able to explore it is to play a hacked version of brawl, which takes away from time i could just be playing regular brawl, you know?

neat idea but it'd prolly function best as a side tournament. i'm sure some people would enter and i can only speak for myself, but

i think if those making the changes could find a painless way of integrating these characters in brawl that didn't need a ton of setup and preparation it'd be okay. but as it is right now to play as a character there're quite a few hoops you have to jump through, and a lot of people (myself included) aren't willing to sacrifice what little time i can play smash just to see a link that can throw his shield and shoot boolet.

Very much agreed on all points. Still, I'd very much like it to become a side event. I'm not familiar with too many of the other "new" characters, but an event with them allowed would be great.

I support this idea for side events. I would also be for the idea in main singles, if there was a way to have them in without replacing the normal character. It's also a bit too much of a hassle. Not too familiar with this all myself, however. =/

Late hurried post before bed, sorry if it's incoherent or anything. D:

Yeah I realize people not having experience using the character or vsing it would be a big issue. You're right about it being a hassle too. Guess we'll have to wait and see if it gets easier to add them to the main roster without getting rid of the character(link in this case). As for a side event, I hope it would catch on. Low tiers is ******** and the most common side event in this area

It's up to the discretion of the tournament host. If I hosted a tournament and allow Zero, and someone doesn't like it, they can just not show up.

They are all in the workshop thread and on youtube(download links). Unfortunately most of the hacked characters I have used so far are just plain stupid, or broken. I think just assing zero to low tiers would be awesome. He can't kill. Same problem as almost all the other low tiers.
