I am with Fortress on this. If you truly want to improve and learn the game it is best to do so with one character. However if you take the game less seriously than playing a bunch is whatever but it is worse for growth. I get the appeal of using many characters. Lately I have been playing a variety of characters in friendlys simple because mixing it up is fun but to actually learn the in's and outs of each character and their match ups for tournament level would be absurd.

I recently picked up Lucas in P:M.

High tier Melee characters are overrated. The year is 20XX people, so it's time to main Pit, Lucas, Bowser, etc; Project: M *cough* balanced characters.

^This. With the exception of maybe Marth, I find all the Melee top-tierers to be rather bland. That's part of why I main Link/Tink in P:M. They were virtually unheard of in Melee, and are very good characters(as all characters in P:M are) once you put in a little effort.

Getting back on topic, I'd suggest picking up someone that fits your Playstyle.

And if you want to win, I'd suggest taking your time to master your character(s). I play Captain Falcon, and the Mario Bros.

@ BigHairyFart Tbh you shouldn't pick up a new character, in fact you should probably stick with Link and learn to accept his weakness rather than trying to use another character to cover them, imo Link is completely viable, while he has some unfavorable MUs, none of them are bad enough to warrant a character switch. I didn't get a chance to play you at DIOD3, but from what T-rex told me you have excellent tech skill, but you seem to be a bit lacking in the fundamentals department, when you're still in the process of learning the game it's not a good idea to try to spread yourself between multiple characters, it's better to be really good with one character than to be mediocre with a bunch of them. If you really feel that you can't succeed with Link or if you feel that he doesn't fit your play style than those would be valid reasons to consider picking up a new character, otherwise you should stick with him. Also if you want good advice on how to get better, next time you should ask some of the good players in our area like Frizz and Strong Bad, 90% of the people on here have no idea what they're talking about, though you should listen to Lordling, Forrtress, and Umbreon, from what I've noticed they usually give pretty solid advice.

mario, luigi. All of them are reasonably fast in their movements

Mario and Luigi are not fast, stop acting like you know stuff about them, they have good movement options, but their overall speed is not that great.

Play who brings out the best in your playstyle, and who gets you results. I don't give half a damn if every other player plays Sheik, Sheik does work. Don't pick a character just because nobody else you know uses them. If you can find something in them ala Chu Dat and the Icies, great, but if not just pick who you can play.

Try to understand this. It does not matter much or amount to much of anything by holding a rank from project m tournies, in an easier game with an easier mario. Armada himself said that it was easier and that he didnt play, which im inclined to agree with. You only think im spreading misinformation when in fact ive taken my characters to a far deeper level than you can comprehend. Either provide footage so that you may be judged, or surrender to my might. Also, what do ypu think inspires more fear in the hearts of baby smashers everywhere? Project free tournaments for scrubby marios- james or the strong bad slayer? There is only one correct answer to this question. Soon enough all of you will see, the new king will rise.
