This character isn't a "Kirby-clone", because he was made before Kirby.

Name: Gimmick
First Game Appearance: Gimmick! (a.k.a. Mr. Gimmick in Europe)
Owner: Sunsoft

BRIEF INFO:

At the same time when the candles at Mary’s birthday-cake were lit, her dad carefully pushes a present on the table that he bought a few days from an old antic store. Mary’s dad passed by the shop one day, and felt sorry for the owner that never had any costumers, so he bought a thing there. The old man said it was very, very old. Mary’s father felt sorry for the old man and bought it, don’t knowing what the toy really was. Mary’s dad had just bought a magic item with mystic forces called Gimmick. Mary was very happy when she opened the present and she was so happy for the present, that she played with it all the day. But when Mary went to bed then something weird happened that evening. Her other toys suddenly were alive. They were very angry because she didn’t play with them any longer. They crawled up to her bed and carried her away to a mystic land. But the present, Gimmick followed the other toys to save the girl. He jumped quickly after them to the unknown land before the window closed. Now, Gimmick armed only with his magic stars, saved Mary from the evil forces in the enchanted country.

STATUS:

Power: 3/5
Size: 1/5
Jump: 4/5
Speed: 3/5
Weight: 2/5

SPECIAL MOVES:

B: Star Toss (Gimmick will spawn a star that is about the same size as himself, and throws it straight forward. Similar to Mario's Fireball, but bounces higher and gives a bit more damage.)

Forward + B: Red Vial (Gimmick drops a Red Vial that will transform into a couple of small fireballs that move straight forward in the shape of a snake and a letter "S" sideways, without touching the ground).

Down + B: Black Vial (Similar to Yoshi's and Bowser's Down+B moves, but this is an item. Gimmick throws the Black Vial in the air, while it transforms into a bomb, falls to the ground, and explodes. Damaging anyone near it.)

Up + B: Star Ride (Same as the Star Toss, but this one makes Gimmick ride on it. It will curve upward, and if it lands on stage, it will not bounce as high as it was by itself.)

SUPER SMASH MOVE: Starburst (Gimmick spawns a star that is six times as large as himself, then throws it straight upward while it explodes into many small stars that will hit many opponents on stage.)

Taunt: Thinks about Mary.

Entrance: Jumps out of a square-shaped warp way in thin air.

Here are some videos of its gameplay from the beginning to the end.

Fun little character that almost nobody knows about. I am so there!

Though his chances are low, I would love seeing him make an appearance. Good moveset too.

Man, When I first clicked the link, I thought this was a humorous thread suggesting a shallow marketing practice as a character.

But now that I se it looks pretty much like a Kirby ripoff, I'm unhappy.

I will now depart to my rock.

dude seriously, If u would have told me u made up that character in MS paint I would have believed u, but I gotta say no, unlike harry from teleroboxer and other characters u brought up that I like, I just gotta say no, like SSJ4Kazuki said, its just some smaller, green, big eyed, kirby with a horn on top of a star... sorry man... no this time...

Gimmick is NOTHING like Kirby though. Just because they're somewhat aesthetically similar, doesn't mean they'd have any of the same moves, or even similar moves. None of Kirby's moves use a star, so you can't really use that as a reason to discount him.

He's quite original, and looks like he'd be hella fun to play.

I NEVER said they'd be clones, but I dont like kirby much, let a lone a look a like with a horn, and Ive never even heard of this guy b4... and I bet many havent either... and dont go "neither was mr GaW and hes in melee", yes tru, but GaW was on the 1st handheld games of nintendo, thus, he made history, still gotta say no...

Pfft....Kirby's one of my favs. And I wasn't going to say that, because Game & Watch is recognizable. Even if you don't expressly remember him, you'll recognize him easier.

But if aesthetics are the only reason you're going to discount him, well, I can't convince you otherwise. But it seems quite lame to me. Also.....Kirby rocks >.>

I took some pics to add to this...

The other toys

Not many people have heard of him, but who cares he looks like he could have a orginal moveset. And he is very orginal even if you call him a kirby knockoff.

The game is hard =( unlike kirby >.>

Thank you for the screenshots, D3monicWolv3s.

I decided to submit some 3RD-Party characters. No one submitted a character that represents Sunsoft. Gimmick! is not Japan-Only, it's also released in Europe as Mr. Gimmick. What else gives him a chance to enter is that Sunsoft is supporting the Virtual Console. Also, like Ness is the only character in the SSB series that came from a title released in only two nations.

Stryks, I was using Photoshop 7. I decided not to draw him as well as my other fan art at deviantART, because I don't support 3RD-Party characters as much as 2ND-Party nor 1ST-Party characters.

Kirby Rip off = NO chances to ever have my love :O.
Looks gayer than Kirby even though he's not pink and red.
Most people see kirby *** bubble gum when they first see him.
For that guy, the first thing that comes to mind is an image you might see under the influence of some phsyicadelic.

Oh, right you are, Kazuki and Chickenboy666. The reason why this character is unfamiliar to most people is that Sunsoft is an overlooked company, and they were responsible for titles like Aero the Acrobat, Chameleon Twist, and the Blaster Master series. I didn't create this thread, because this character is overlooked. I created it because no one (but I) thought of any character owned by Sunsoft.

Yes.
Hm, interesting choice. I like it. I remember playing the game once and it was fun. He may not have that much of a chance, but it would be nice to see the guy again. I'm afraid he is kind of dead now though.

Oh, and by the way, I just checked Wikipedia and learned that Gimmick! was made BEFORE the original Kirby's Dream Land so calling him a Kirby rip-off is dumb. Besides, Kirby's awesome anyways.

Am i the only one who doesn't think this idea is retarted?

I know i'm gonna get flamed for this, but because the character is obscure isn't enough reason for it to be a good choice.

Despite the level of originality, this character choice is quite the downfall, due to the fact that it is 3rd party.Another thing is that this character doesn't add much to the imagination to some of those who specuate(a.k.a Kirby Clone).

Sure some obscure characters are great and deserving, but some such as this take it to the extreme.Just think about it,don't you think some characters are obscure for a reason?

BTW,i don't want to hear anything about Pit,IC's,or possibly Ballon Fighter, because those were great characters from great games, and were Nintendo characters that were not unknown(Well. . . to some extent, the IC's were).

Gimmick was Release date was January 31, 1992.
While kirbys was on April 27, 1992.

So if anything kirby is a knockoff, so deal with it.

Now for pit he had a trophy in melee that spiked his poularity, so if there is
a gimmick trophy he might become popular, and if gimmick gets to the
virtual console than many more people would have acess to it than
just japan, and europe.

and by the way I would take gimmick over kirby. I have never had a problem with
a kirby game, but gimmick you have 3 lives to complete it. I would rather play
a challenge instead of being given anything.

D3monicWolv3s, those images of the title, "Gimmick!", you are showing look like they were taken from a camera, instead of the Print Screen key. Is that true?

Yeah, I did.

I had my camera out at the time, and I didn't know how to do screencaps. So I did what I did.

Anyways I am a photographer of sorts, well that is what all of my friends say at least. riacdol

Here is something I made in photoshop...

Sorry, But Seeing Gimmick would anger the ones who don't know it (In other words, ALL who wanted more known char)
So people will be angry over anything, ICs & G&W returning will make some mad and alot of
the other characters.

And if Lucario gets in then some people wouldn't know him and will be like where is freaking blazekin or some other pokemon.

Anyone and probaly everyone will be mad over something they just have to get over it.
Overal the devolpers, say what goes.

I think that gimmick would make a great G&W like character IMO (I don't mean replace
G&W I am just saying no one would really think of gimmick or expect him, he would be the
new WTF character).

And no one knew who Roy or Marth were really, but most people love them. They would just
have to do a good job on Gimmick.

The main problem with this guy is that he's 3rd party though. You can argue as much as you like how obscure Pit, the Ice Climbers and Game & Watch are, but they are at least owned by Nintendo. We all know that the 3rd party character slots are hotly contested, so a character as obscure and unknown as Gimmick practically stands no chance against big names like Sonic and Megaman. Yes, Gimmick can be an origional and admittedly fun character to play, but his chances are just so incredibly low that saying he'll be the next WTF character is really, really wishful thinking.

I never made a argument over ICs, or G&W. I was just stating that everyone will be mad at something about brawl, and was merly just using them as examples. never even mentioned pit. :dizzy:

O I know that he has low chances, with the 3rd party slots and all. But I dobt that
Sunsoft would refuse if they were asked.

Sunsoft hasn't been doing much to my knowledge and they are now only working in
Japan, their offices in Europe and America have closed, and it has been stated that
sunsoft games will be on the virutal console.

So its not completly impossible, but just very unlikely, I will admit he has almost 0% chance until his game comes out on the virtual console. So if that happens then he would have higher chances of appearing in the next SSB title.

And the whole he would make a great G&W like charcter was my opinion. note the IMO.

Something awful just happened. The Gimmick! speed runs (uploaded by taipon) are no longer on YouTube, because taipon's account has been permanently disabled by YouTube for unknown reason(s). Not only that, YouTube also did the same thing to my account and the videos I uploaded to their web site. Guess I might as well move on to other video web sites, like ZippyVideos, MetaCafe, Putfile.com, and perhaps Google Video.

I guess Sunsoft is becoming poor enough for a rich video game company to buy them, like Nintendo, Atlus, etc.

And didn't I hear one of you say that this is one of the worst character threads? What about this one? More people think it's worse than Gimmick.

Kirby's distant cousin..... Seems Kirby is more popular than him. Never heard of him. Seems like a Kirby knock off with the whole star and gumball with arms shape.

If you search Gimmick sunsoft on google then go to video theres videos of someone playing through the entire game. That game looks hard with the constant traps and everything. Also in game he's not that similar to Kirby. Lastly I now understand how the attacks would work, pretty cool.

In your cereal, stealin' your prizes!
I completely forgot about this guy! I agree, anyone that has actually played the game would understand the difference in mechanics between Gimmick and Kirby. Unfortunately, I don't think he has the gull to make it, though.

And Sunsoft, didn't they also make Milon's Secret Castle for the NES?

Eh... I'd prefer some more interesting characters. I mean, even if he is different and all, you can only have so many one-colored little blobs with stubby appendages in your roster until it gets old.
