Preparing for Brawl: Prediction, Spacing and Strategy
By Rob "Wobbles" - The Famous Ice Climbers Player Who Discovered Wobbling

Teaser:
Who isn't excited about it? For some, Brawl is the third in a series of amazing party games; for others, it's a chance to stretch some competitive muscle.

If you're part of the second group, then maybe you—or somebody you know—probably said this at some point:

“When Brawl comes out, it's going to be a clean slate. The playing field will even out.”

It's a heartening thought, isn't it?

Melee has a highly developed meta-game. There is a lot of knowledge spread out through the community, knowledge that has
taken years to accrue. Since Melee's release in 2001 people have studied it voraciously, expanding their knowledge and discovering new ways to play.

For somebody starting now, that's a massive barrier to overcome. Six years of knowledge. Six years of study. And the best are only getting better.

But there's a new game on the horizon; Smash Brothers Brawl will smooth out that uneven playing field and unstack the deck. Everyone has a chance to be the best. We're all equal now. Right?

Wrong.

I read it all and it's well written, it's probably right that good players are still good in Brawl ^^

i just love how they mentioned the top players like Mew2King and Chu-Dat. Taj's Mewtwo is really something. Sigh spacing is what i really need to work on and mind games still.

Its nice to see people on the boards being encouraging and not just ripping people apart for no reason. Looking forward to reading this thing.

Good article.

I've been trying to tell people for a while now that certain skill sets are going to carry over.

Much about fighting games is playing to get better. You can play casually for years and never actually get good at the game. Or you can get good very quickly by trying to improve all the time.

Yeah, playing with the great competitive players in the Southwest has made me good in just a year, while I have friends that have played with each other since the game came out and can't touch me. They are just as good as me technically, but my mind games and smarts are what allows me to win. That is what will transfer to Brawl.

if you aren't good at melee, its not like its that hard to get good if you really try, all you need is someone to play with who is also really trying.

Great read I must say... But the Fox prepares a different way.

Just so you know, Fox McCloud starts all his mornings off with a 2 hour sparring session with Chuck Norris...They both do this to help them stay on edge and always be aware of their enemies. And when I say enemies I mean everyone. You can't even imagine the amount of roundhouse kicks in that sesssion
. At least 9 thous.....Well you get the point

But yea, thats your typical Fox McCloud morning. As for the rest of the day....well thats the same story different chapter baby.

good article, the most important thing about this game is having fun. Taking the time to get good at this game isnt as hard as most people think... just learn all the tehniques available and have them in ur aresenal, the more u play people just as dedicated to getting better at the game the better ull become. find the character that suits u best, the one that feels the most natural to u or just ur favorite and take some time learning all of his moves so when u fight against ur opponent ull have some ideas about what u want to do. the more u play the more u will learn....

ive played melee almost 2 years competively and im still learning things, dont get discouraged if ur losing if u have fun competing u will get better.

and for all the casual players out there, if thats the way u wanna play then thats fine thats the beauty of smash it can be enjoyed by everyone....

Captain Falcon is manlier than the Y chromosome. The knee on it's own could cause even Chuck Norris to faint.
