All,

We are a new arcade here in Columbus, Ohio called Just Play Games located near The Ohio State Campus at 1443 North High St. Columbus, Ohio 43201. We are looking to have a regular day where Smash Bros players can meet to challenge each other and also host tournaments. We are looking for someone in your community to run these events because we are new to this. We welcome all feedback. I can be emailed at DamianJG23@gmail.com. Please let me know what day of the week works best for all and who would be the best contact to gather the Columbus, Ohio group.

Very nice. Don't you worry, Columbus players will step up and host things.

My worry is this:

-Rental of store for an hour $150, 3 hours $300
or
-Walk Ins : $5HR , $20HR All-day pass

$5 would not be unreasonable for a several hour Smash session (Smashfest) but this pricing would not be particularly competitive with other venues. For example, Arcade Legends in Cinci, which runs quite a few Smash tournaments, charge $5 for the full day of Smashing. 25 people show up, the store gets $125 for about 8 hours of Smash. At JPG that cost would be $500 for those same 25 people.

Damian, just so you are aware of the current standards in the eSport space, $5-$10 MAX is an expected venue fee for a full day, and the $10 is definitely on the high end/will discourage people in the fighting game community. If your rates are flat/there is no wiggle room here you will struggle to get the community to come out. The old venue Columbus use to use was MoMo's and they didn't even charge anything - they got bodies in the store and those people bought food/drinks. My previous tournaments held in Columbus charged
-$5 at Wings and Brew Pizza (this actually INCLUDED Pizza/drink for you)
-$5 at Delta Upsilon (simply a way to raise money for the fraternity)
-$5 at eSports Initiative events (full day in the Ohio State Student Union Smashing)

Speaking of which, you may want to contact Ray Tan at ESI as they could be a good starting point for getting word out on campus.

Still though, you gotta look at those prices/rates...they are very high when you are talking about targeting console players that have easy access to this stuff in the dorms and around campus. It may make a little more sense with computers though.
