Had already decided on getting the Smash Edition 3DS and then they announced the New 3DS. I am torn! On one hand, Smash Bros 3DS, on the other hand, a way better system . . .

Doesn't the new 3ds only have three games that will utilize it? They'll definitely make more over time, but will new 3ds be standard for 3ds games from now on, or will they only be making exclusive games for it.
Either way, I'd much rather new 3ds; the Smash XL isn't very pretty.

Yeah it's terrible timing. They're about..... say 3 YEARS TOO LATE! Still I'd rather a New 3DS regular since you can change the faceplates to whatever you want. Best feature I say :D

ice climbers edition smash
True but I'm sure some other games would've benefited from it too. Can't think of any from the top of my head though. Kid Icarus Uprising would've greatly benefited from a second stick by default too.

Sadly the control stick pro attachment for 3dss aren't compatable with smash 3ds.(As of now at least )

Yeah, it would have been alright if Nintendo did a Global release of the New 3DS. I was planning on upgrading to a XL for Smash & pokemon Ruby/Sapphire. Now I don't know what to do. I'd rather not put 200 hours into those two games on my tiny 3ds screen. But the cheapest thing to do is wait for the New XL. . . I'm guessing they will put it out w/ Monster Hunter 4 this spring. Maybe, who knows:(

Bad timing? More like awful.
Oh well, I don't give a ****. New stick looks awful as do the placement of new buttons. Don't care for new features. Already own the only exclusive game it has. It will come out well after the Wii U version so no one will care about Smash 3DS.

So it's only weird timing for people who don't have a 3DS.

It might be a bit of a weird timing, but it's just nintendo doing their thing lol. If it does come early 2015 and it has the special monster hunter 4 ultimate skin like japan does on launch, then I won't complain at all

Except in Japan, where they timed it quite well.

Why they can't release it earlier in other markets, I don't know.

It might have something to do with Christmas. It could be that releasing it before Christmas would affect their holiday sales plans for the Wii U and so forth, which isn't really a consideration in Japan/eastern markets.

In that case, they might release the N3DS pretty early in 2015.

This is gonna sound really weird, but the thing that really stuck out to me, for some reason, was the colouring of the buttons. IDK, just more of a show of how Nintendo seem to be the only major console company not burning and erasing their past

No, the timing is perfect... in Japan. It's NOA & NOE who are being the idiots here.

But to be fair, they are probably trying to give Wii U its time to shine this holiday instead of bombarding us with a new handheld (essentially) and the Wii U.

But for Japan, this is genius. Because they're releasing a Smash New 3DS & Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire ones. They're on top of things with this.

So the problem isn't the timing of the New 3DS itself, but the fact that the whole world isn't getting it this year like Japan is. If we were, then there'd be no problem.

And they were really trying to push for people buying old 3DS without talking about the elephant in the room on the livestream the other week. OH MAN, I DUNNO WHICH 3DS XL I WANT. NES? RED SSB? BLUE SSB? NOW'S THE TIME TO BUY A 3DS/XL. Like, really trying to sell it when we all know there's a new version around the corner. It was embarrassing.

Decorated consoles are more like collectors items than anything. It was unfortunate that the new 3DS overshadows the decorated ones, but you can't blame nintendo america for promoting it. It's not like they're scumbags trying to steal your money with underhanded marketing.

I've had my 3DSXL for over a year, will be about two when the new 3DS comes out.

But something that has been really awesome for me in retrospect in life,

I had a game boy advance, and then I got a game boy advance SP. As my brother did the same, it made it so we could play four player crystal chronicles and four swords adventures on game cube really easily. Which paid off well in college in some great game sessions (Absolutely loved playing through and beating Four Sword Adventures)

I had an original DS, a DS lite, a DSiXL, a guitar hero DS. Combo'd with my 3DSXL, at a yearly guys weekend style trip with a few friends that had their own DS systems, 6 player star fox and eight player mario kart DS were both really fun game sessions.

And in a year I'll get a New 3DSXL... and be able to have multiplayer any 3DS game easier. And original DS game too. Which is pretty cool.

And I actually regret waiting for the 3DSXL cause it meant I missed out on the ambassador program, plus there are some backlog 3DS games I really want to play (Luigi's Mansion, Mario and Luigi Dream Team, Fire Emblem Awakening, and some others) that seem further away as more new games take my interest.... and I realize Nintendo games rarely get significantly price dropped. Even used, so I can't even hope to get 'lucky' like I did when I snagged Star Fox Adventures for 3 bucks or actually lucky like when I got Kid Icarus (NES) for five bucks and Eternal Darkness for six.

Yes, these are the best problems in the world, and I wish I could focus on them more heavily.

I find it strange that everyone's freaking out over it when we don't even know when it's coming overseas.
For all we know, they might be delaying it till the middle or end of NEXT YEAR, for the sake of building a library unique to it and to give it some space away from the other special edition 3DS's they're releasing.

That's what I'd do; I'd delay it till Christmas of next year, or Black Friday of next year at the earliest.

it's only bad timing for people who just bought japanese 3DSs so that they could play smash 3 weeks early :v
if they'd have waited 3 weeks they could have just bought it for their american 3DS at a fraction of the cost along with everything (including trophy descriptions and instructions and ... yeah, everything) being readable. or if they had waited 4 weeks they could have gotten a new3DS from japan.

as for the people who DON'T have a 3ds but want to get smash this winter season, why wouldn't they just get Smash U...? it's not like there is a newWii U that was announced recently.

Assuming it will ever hit overseas.

Yeah, it's Nintendo for you. Always doing great things with something illogical in the mix. Wii is the 2nd Nintendo console to play GameCube games. 10 years later Wii U removed the backwards compatibility and they release a brand new GCN controller.

the New 3DS will probably hit overseas. Everything Nintendo does comes first to Japan, then the rest of the World.
