what i think we need to work on as ness players is the OOS(out of shield) game and defense for OOS game. Brawl's new shield mechanic let's all kinds of things work from shield other than what used to work(WD, grab, jump, upsmash, etc.). With the new quicker shield drop we need to find what new things we can start when something hits ness' shield(can we jab into something? how about upsmash? is psi magnet out of shield too odd for you? how about ftilt?). Also we need to realize that everyone can do this, not just ness, including characters with greater range. This means we will need to create a defense from other characters' OOS game and that means SPACING, FAKEOUTS, and CROSS-OVERS. I've heard snake can do things like PLANT C4 ON PPL OOS...do you want this to happen to you!? I know I don't!

We must also realize that because of this new shield mechanic that autocancelling aerials may not always be necessary since the opponent can very well leave their shield and attack before you even have a chance to hit the ground. This means variations and combinations of fastfalled/nonfastfalled/drifting/reverse/empty/delayed/rising/falling/etc aerials will be VERY much encouraged.

And in case anyone hasnt started yet: BE MORE AGGRESSIVE WITH UPB

well Simna, that's actually one thing I've been practicing recently and found that Ness' f-tilt OOS works the best for me. If you can time your shield and attack correctly, I've gotten several f-tilt kills immediately out of my dash(with the shield almost completely unseen). Although at least once i have (accidentally) used up tilt instead and gotten good effects out of them being airborne and surprised without the delay that would have occurred if i had used my dash attack and had to wait for it to finish.

So true.

Charge D-smash or Up-Smash out of shield, the enemy has to back up or get shield stabbed. If they roll to the other side, punish.

Ftilt's great.

F-smash is good to trick your opponent out.

Don't do ANYTHING out of shield against G&W or Pikachu, or you'll die.

Ness has extremely good aerial range, use this against shielding opponents, DI away before they have a chance to do things OOS.

Also, remember, running powershield into ANYTHING.

Ness won't be "top tier" because...?
Because many characters can effectively out space him.

I think Ness is likely a stronger character than Lucas, aside from PK Fire and PKT gimps, (which are the really clutch issues because Lucas uses these things extensively to help with the spacing issue) but Ness' bat has more range and is buffer than Lucas' stick, Ness' back-air is much more useful, and he has better thunder tricks and aerial combos overall.

I really haven't been paying attention to many of the other characters, what makes Pika so good in OOS cases against Ness?
