Lately, I've been having a serious amount of difficulty against opponents playing Samus. Whether its trying to combo utilts or uairs Samus always seems to be able to "refresh" before i can continue. Any tips with the matchup?

if something that normally works does not work (ie. exactly what you're describing), then adapt a little - this is universal to every matchup in every head to head game

instead of linking that next u-air or u-tilt, try for a d-air > techchase

its almost like i can't even get two utilts off...is this exclusive to samus? she feels floaty like jiggs when i catch her in the tilt.

samus is very heavy and also very floaty, meaning she'll 'wake up' from hitstun a lot sooner than you think she will

im sure there's a reasonable technical explanation, but you can just think of it as her being harder to juggle

precisely! this is the ultimate paradox! i don't play a lot of good Samuses either, so the matchup is weird, but I cannot for the life of me combo her and it p***es me off to no end. Trying to space with DJC bairs and dairs works, but as i said looking for the utilt>uair combo seems impossible.

u-tilt to u-air works, just don't expect to get four or five u-tilts like you would with dk or link

as for u-air juggling, i wouldn't want to risk being counterhit by d-air, or even trading, because samus' d-air is pretty big

samus is one of the easiest characters to fair/nair chain on, so learn to do those on her

disproving determinism
practice a lot to get fair chains down

i hate the ness samus matchup btw - even though i can do fair chains pretty well samus just out ranges ness so i never can get a combo started

I feel like you should have learned how to do fair combos against samus before you decided to get a ness tattoo..

i don't have a ness tattoo...that is just an image.

--also, i actually had attempted to change it today, but forgot that changing the profile picture didn't change the "avatar photo."

nonetheless, a bit off topic.

jus jestin'. it did kinda look like a tattoo, which would have been hilarious.

BACK ON TOPIC very important to be patient against samus. Both ness and samus are mostly defensive/reactionary characters, with samus' advantage being range and ness' being priority. approach sporadically. space mostly with djc uairs. use utilt sparingly. space grabs when shes at high percents and experiment with pk thunder edgeguarding tactics.

Also don't underestimate dat invincible head bro. Ness's uair beats like everything from below, and that includes Samus's dair. If Samus is short hop happy you can get under her with a djc uair.

If Samus is more grounded, and pivot fsmashy (which is how I play the MU as Samus), then you might want to use dair from above to get at her, or OVERSHOOT REVERSE DJC RUSH bair/dair maybe.

Ness has the advantage in this matchup IMO, though not a large one

Well I hope you aren't approaching with the fairs themselves. I'm not good at fair chains myself but I guess the best opportunities would be after a lowish-mid percent dair pops them up, or on a tech.

pivot fsmash is like, samus's best non-B move

If you really want to do the z-canceled combos, I suggest mashing/buffering z during your aerials. Mashing your z-cancels is not a bad idea at first when learning combos, but I recommend learning the actual timing at some point.

What are you asking? Also your signature led to me accidentally read old tier list posts and a ton of posts there gave me cancer, why did I put myself through that

the only thing i took out of those old posts was that:

- **** everything about antidifferentiation
- ShootingStar and cheeseball341 are better nicknames that your current respective ones
- ballin has come so, so far:

Noob combo imo. True pros weak bair or fair -> nair/dair yo (or maybe even fsmash?) [talking about kirby]
seeing as now ending that combo in fsmash is like basic lol

If shes above you uair will beat her attacks all the time if timed right. Becareful when approaching head on, samus players will typically try to pivot fsmash or bair, some will even retreat with down b. Approaching with any aerial works, fair is most risky. Grab a lot. Dont use upsmash. Uptilt works sometimes. Nair ***** her recovery at high percents otherwise just use downsmash. PK fire works if ur good at it.

When I'm beginning to catch her in a dair, i typically get caught in the upb, di out and it starts all over again.
