Nerd question, but is sound ethereal?

I ask this because................truth be told, I want to make a Pokemon fanfic heavily involving Dialga and Palkia and I wanted to know if sound was ethereal akin to the elements of time and space (to make a fourth ethereal dragon OC).

I know that the basic definitions of ethereal is:
1. Being celestial or heavenly.
2. Lacking material substance.

I am more concerned with number two. I know that you can actually sense sound through hearing, but I don't know if it is truly devoid of material.

Sound is caused by the vibration in the air. Which is why Space Opera films are highly criticized by the fact there's sound in space. There's no air for the vibrations to occur.

Thanks Darkslash. I pretty much realized sound didn't exist in space after posting; I just did not know why that was the case. Thanks again.
