I've been playing Marth practically since I got the game, but I feel like I've reached a dry spell when it comes to improvement. I haven't really gotten any better or worse lately, so I was wondering if any of you guys could throw me some tips...

I'll update this page with more if anyone starts dropping out ideas. It'll sorta give you a taste of before and after, if you will.

That falcons really bad...

One thing I saw was how you dident reverse up+b and up+b while off the edge and fell to your death. So basically work on your up b i guess?

I suggest working on double short-hop FAiring as well as FAir -> UAir in the same short-hop; the latter is especially useful against fastfallers. Also, you should use UTilt more; it's Marth's primary juggle starter. A good Fox user will be able to tech your FSmashes, so against someone who's recovering from below the stage, you should either use Counter from the stage or, from the edge, drop down when you see them use Firefox and just poke them with the first hit of Dancing Blade, then recover.

Your Marth is pretty consistant yet I saw you pull out the d-smash a couple of times. Instead of using it try wd and f-smash, d-smash has way to much lag allowing the opponent to punish you. Moreover, while edgeguarding, charging the smash mostly works with characters who can't sweetspot the ledge, like captain falcon. Work on your edgeguarding and try not using d-smash because of the lag.

The two things I noticed that need improvement were:

1. Instead of rolling away, you should just dash out. There is plenty of time to dash away, and no lag involved. That way you can dash back in or dance outside their range for a second, make them miss, then dash in and grab.

2. You should use your Fairs more defensively against faster characters (Fox and Falcon, primarily). What I mean is short-hop away from your opponent and at the peak of your jump fastfall and Fair simultaneously (then L-cancel obviously). If you do this as they come at you, they will be hit by the swipe as you move away. However, if they wait for the swipe then come in, as soon as you L-cancel the first swipe come immediately up with a short-hop Fair but jumping forward this time. Its kind of hard to explain, but it definitely works. Watch a vid of a pro Marth (vs. Fox/Falcon) if you don't follow what I mean.

Maybe a few things to keep in mind are that 1. marths grab has very little range, so only use it when you're sure you're actually gonna get someone with it. in the fox vid, he caught u missing grabs a lot, and it gave him time to charge in and do something about it. 2. Sheilding for an intermediate amount of time in the middle of the course is a very safe thing to do, but it makes it obvious that you're trying to sheild grab. You may want to sheild later on to surprise him more.

??? It cut off my post! anyway, I was going to say that you're a whole lot better than me, but just from a few vids i could see a lot of patterns you use. In other words, try mixing it up a bit. Confuse people.

From what I can tell, you play very similarly to how I play; my main critique is that you stood still and sheilded a bit too much in situations you could've use to your advantage. Also, sometimes you got stuck in F-smash mode, which I understand is hard to reprogram yourself to not do; but it can really mess you up sometimes.
