Me too, I need help with this as well.

My technique that I just started using was shorthopping with x like I always do and then press z to do the first fair and then press A to do the second. Sometimes I end up doing a JC grab, but thats only because I keep my thumb on the x, which I need to fix. If anyone has a faster way i would love to knkow the fingerings.

Well, what I do is I use a different method of short hopping than I usually do. I usually flick to the left, but for SHDF, I...

Put my thumbnail on the bottom of the X button and flick down to shorthop
F-air with Z
Second f-air with c-stick

It's really not that hard once you get the hang of it. You just time it correctly: not too soon, but not too late. Don't press A repeatedly. Idk, but it doesn't really work when I tried that.

What I do: Press A, then A.

Is it useful to sh fair, then uair? Also, can you fair into any aerial move in one sh? I've done fair -> uair, and fair -> dair before, but they're harder to do than double fair (that's what I think).

Double Fairs can be done very easy in the left direction by just flicking the bottom of the x button and then sliding down to c-stick very fast and hitting it twice to the left in rythm and doing this way you can also do retreating double fairs too. When going to the right, i just use A for the first swing then c-stick for the second to get the required spacing but if you are fast enough, feel free to use the c-stick when going to the right too.

It just depends on your playstyle, really. I've gotten used to using the Z button, while I know some people who never use it for anything except grabs.

...am I the only person that just jumps and hits A twice? I mean seriously...
Quoted for truth.
This is not a hard tactic to pull off... Just move your fingers faster and if you can't, too bad.
Don't bother using in-game if you can't get it off 99% of the time.
I hate this thread.

I hear arguements that x to z is the cleanest way to pull off the first fair, then use a cstick for the second aerial. Note that for certain people it's much better to do a fair to uair, such as against captain falcon.

Also, it's useful to be able to do retreating fairs (moving backwards in the air while fairing twice), which the only practical way to do is to use the cstick for both fairs. That's much more difficult than a or z.

Work on moving your fingers faster to get it to work. But first make sure that you know what you want to do with the ability to double fair. Tons of tech skill doesn't win games by itself, you need to think through your moves and apply the tech to get better.

edit: 4 aces, I didn't read your post either, lol. Fair to uair helps marth juggle captain falcon at most percents, because he can get out of double fairs easily enough. It also helps for other situations when double fairs don't get the job done.

I slide my thumb from the x button to the A button and then hit the A button again really fast. I'm going to try other techniques listed on this topic such as slide your finger from the X button to the Z then hit A.

Can you fastfall and L-cancel two fairs? What about a fair and a uair?

You can't fast fall a double fair or fair -> uair without failing it. You can L-cancel it though.
I think that X or Y to Z to pull off the double fair isn't a great idea because you might end up JC grabbing.

It's just a speed thing. Hit the c-stick as quick as you can and learn the timing to do the second one before you land. Sometimes the animation does come out all the way, but it still hits anything in range. ^_^

'kay, Thanks jmansmash. So all characters can be comboed with fair -> uair, just that a select few, like Captain Falcon are more vulnerable to it, and it'd be more beneficial. Am I getting this right?

Do you know why Captain Falcon and a few other characters get comboed better when it's fair -> uair? Does it have to do with weight? Size? Falling speed?

What are these "other situations?" I don't have too much experience with Marth.

Is it possible to fair -> bair? Just curious if that's even an option. Sorry about badgering you with like 20 questions. I must be such a pest right now, lol.

If you want to see fair->uair in action, watch Kizzu's videos.

I don't like using A,A for double fair because I lose control of the spacing while in the air, whereas with the c-stick i can DI and fair at the same time - if you use A for fairs exclusively you can't retreat fair (although retreating double fair strikes me as an exceedingly useless technique).

Argh I can't get the timing for some weird reasons. I've practiced for a while.
