Need help capturing

Ok i'm having problems digitizing vhs tapes of smash. I usually use my friends dvd vhs combo and it will record from the tape on to a dvd and than my friend usually downloads the dvd on his laptop. Well the **** thing keeps freezing when it start recording. So I was wondering if anybody wanted to help me out. I was thinking if I could send the vhs tapes to you and than you can digitize it for me :D or if you know something else that would help thnx!

1. What software are you using?
2. Incompability with laptop(s)? (I have some myself on this laptop, non-video related though.)
3. What DVD/VCR (VHS) manufacturer?
4. Shippment to Sweden is expensive. xd

Yeah I would think so to hahahhahha. Ok my friend uses pinnacle to edit. But my friends dvd combo transfers vhs onto blank dvd's. But during the process it keeps freezing! So I don't have a way to get the vhs into any usable form if you know what i mean.
