Need Advice on Next Step

Hello, Lucas is currently not doing very well for me. He is my main, but after playing some rather skilled players, I noticed a major flaw I have. I rely on PK Thunder and PK Fire way too much. A skilled player easily anticipates these moves after hearing Lucas obnoxiously scream out the attack.

My tactics and mind games aren't working anymore. Specifically, Wolf's deflector is giving me a lot of trouble, ruining my PK Thunders and just screwing me over.

I need advice on how to give Lucas a competitive edge over my opponents. Thanks.

Forward and up tilt are really nice. His Jab combo is amazing. If your thunder is getting eaten by people then you just need to work on your spacing. Don't use PK Thunder close to the stage while recovering. The snake tether can help you out here. Short hopped Nairs will work wonders for you as well.

Take a moment to notice who's usually approaching in these matchups. If it's you, identify why you feel the need to approach, and work to counter that. If it's the opponent, figure out how they're effectively approaching. Wolf's aerials can be countered by Shield > SH Nair out of shield > Tilt. If he's getting you with fsmashes, try Full hop dairs (or pk fires, but yeah...). However, wolf's best approach is his full hop double bair, which has great priority and range with little lag. against this, you should back off until he lands, and hit him from a distance, or when he's above you, move in front of him where he can't bair, shield, and nair.

So basically, note who's campier, get campier than him, and counter his strategies for approach.

Directly above you tipping a dair.
I have advice but keep in mind i use lucas as a secondary. If you use a pk fire and it hits, feel free to whip out pk freeze and move it to the opponent or keep it near you in case then run to you. Short hop dair and nair can be abused really well and sh nair can combo into an up tilt when you hit the floor. Short hop fair can be used as an agressive approach as well as bair (practice running, turning around then bair-ing). You have 3 good options whent he opponent is offstage 1) pk thunder 2) pk freeze 3) hop off and bair spike. Of course there are others but i don't use them often.

Careful about that, backlash, there are a few problems with the advice you just gave.

One of which is the success of a SH dair. It doesn't autocancel, and is trying to hit an opponent under a sh from lucas, who has one of the shortest sh's in the game.

Yeah, that must be an issue for...how do I say this...not so "hardcore" Lucas users, because I find myself feeling the same way as you. I can deal with decent people, but when I play these "big guns," I can't seem to land the fire and thunder very often...thus I lose, cause I can't hit them with anything else, either :ohwell: .

It is good to see all the different suggestions from people though. I will give some of these ideas a try!
