N64 Joystick Replacement?

I used to be able to find tons of replacements for the n64 joystick on ebay or amazon back in the day. Now everywhere I go, they are all out of stock. Anybody know a site that has them in stock? They are probably all gone, just like the new n64 controllers at the Nintendo store :(

I've always written these joystick replacements off as shady and unlikely to work well.

Do they in fact work well? Are they easy to install? If so I might pick up some myself.

Yea, its almost like getting a new controller xP

Sometimes you might get a defect though. Like I bought a four pack back in the day and one of them didn't work :/

Someone should make a third party stick that lasts a long time.

So much money that could be done with that, so much money.

...k not much. >_< We'd need better adapters available for cheaper. Or a 3rd part N64 controller that's good quality with a USB. I doubt all of this.

Im pretty sure they exist already. I saw once a "joystick pack" being sold online. You can replace the joysticks wen they are wasted

Like I said Chives, if you use it online, I think you'll be fine due to sensitivity. I remember SheerMadness saying he couldn't do much on console with the same controller, and it was because his stick gave out, but online worked.

But yeh, if you open up an old controller, white dust flies everywhere. Them jotsticks lose their snap very quickly and just limp.

Seems my old controller still has some snap. My older one is useless, to bad the one with snap has a horrible Z-Button XD. I don't have a console though, bleh.

Hmm, so the potential is there for it to break. It's probably a good idea to keep my eyes open for an extra N64 controller selling for cheap, just in case I need one. It would have to be really cheap, though. Garage sale cheap.

Just bought 4 joystick replacements from ebay. price+shipping ended up on 36$, so now all my controllers are tight :)
very easy to change the joystick, but hopefully 4 new joysticks will last a while. Buying new joysticks now and then will is expencive...

One thing is buggin me. I am sitting here with 4 worn out joystick replacements. Is there any way that I can repair them?

Cleaned everything, and is the white dust from the stick or the white box? Also, will getting a new spring help anything?

Check that site out for cleaning the parts.
However, I suspect the white dust comes from grinding the base of the stick with the other plastic stuff down there. Even if you did clean it, I doubt you'll get the same sensitivity because some of the stick just physically isn't there anymore.

How quickly have the stick wear down? Obviously it's different for every person but, in general, how long do you think they'll last with standard usage?

I've had my N64 controller for about a year and 2 months now. I'd say I've only used it actively about 2-3 months and it's still in good shape for me.

Tried that one, and doesn't help loose sticks. Thinking about trying to melt little plastic parts on to the stick, but doubt that will last long. also getting the right size have to be increadibly hard.

I've been using my online controller for a year and a few months now, STILL GOOD
I assume it's half cause of quality and half cause of sensitivity. If you use it online, you can kinda "make up" for the stick giving away, won't fix it once it fully gives though.

But meh, whatever it is, good it's still working.
