N64 controller questions

So, I first started playing ssb on keyboard online, and then I got an n64 controller and now I just play on console since I can't find a better adapter.

Now that I've made the switch to the actual n64 controller I find that I can't do alot of the things I could do on the computer.

So here are my questions: (remember this is on the n64)

1. How do you dash off a ledge to ffuair? It never does uair, its usually like bair/dair. I try and fastfall and then quickly move the stick up for uair but it just doesnt do it. This question applies to luigi's dair to ffuair etc

2. What kind of DI do u use for drills? (smash/slide..?)

3. How do you do throw to falcon punch with the full jump (not the c full jump which is slightly lower) always mess up after the dash

4. When you're doing a combo with pika in hyrules box, (utilts, bair -> usmash -> thunder)
how do you get pikachu to jump high enough to the left edge? it doesnt reach when i try

n00b questions :(

You're probably just not used to pressing the absolutely proper directions. Your hand/thumb might be slightly angled while you play, start playing then pay attention the angulation of your hand. What may feel like straight up is actually diagonal or something like that. You'll have to adjust the way you hold it or pay closer attention to where you're pointing the joystick, soon enough you'll be used to it and won't have the problem anymore.

The more likely problem is you're not doing it fast enough. It's arguably easier on keyboard. You have to do it very quick on the N64 joystick/on console for it work properly and not give you a nair or something.

I use slide for drills on N64, but there are good players who use smash for everything, so it's up to you.

Not quite sure what you mean here.

If you jump while holding a direction, your full jump is shorter than if you jump without holding a direction.

As soon as you jump you can hold a direction, though. What matters is that you are not pressing a direction right during the time you press jump. Anytime after that is fine. Personally I'm surprised you never encountered this issue on keyboard.

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
for pika in the box, double jump before aerial. I would also suggest Nair instead of Bair when bouncing them off the tent, since it also lets you double jump later than Bair (due to timing the Bair).

What you're saying is correct, if you're jumping with the C buttons. If you're jumping with the control stick, then the direction doesn't matter, you'll reach the full height of the jump.
So, to get Pikachu to the full height of the jump you could either jump with the control stick or without pressing directions. Since I am a kb player myself, I have no idea which one is easier on the controller.

Yup, because using the joystick has the exact same effect, you jump first then hold a direction, and of course on the joystick alone it's impossible to jump and hold a direction at exactly the same time unlike with the C buttons + joystick.

You aren't going to be finishing Pika box combos with a double jump aerial (that then bounces the opponent off the tent into an upsmash). A full single hop will get you on the left ledge from anywhere in the box. Full hop nairs are the easiest way to finish like this, although often you will need to full hop bair instead, which is a lot harder to do and still land on the ledge.

And as far as I can tell you just need to smash the control stick up to get a full hop, as you would for a usmash. I just tested it a bit, and a deviance from straight up doesn't seem to matter as long as you are predominantly smashing up.

This doesn't directly answer your question, but I haven't had a problem using double jump with c buttons after a dash. All I know is you have to jump RIGHT after the dash and press B right after the second jump.

Also I never use stick jump, unless it's on accident.

I think it's possible. :ohwell:
If you jump perfectly diagonal with the joystick you'll jump with the same initial momentum as if you had jumped with the C-buttons, but you will reach your full height. I am only deducing this from jumping with the keyboard so I might be totally wrong.
That should answer question number 3. To do fthrow>falcon punch you should jump with the joystick and still holding forward, since it will give you the proper height and momentum. It might be too hard to press B inmediately after the jump without doing Up+B, so you might find it too hard to be practical.
fthrow>punch is so easy on keys it's boring :embarrass
