I had a habit of drawing random things in class. So I did a bunch of Nintendo sketches one time, many in collaboration with college friends. I generally did one sketch per series, although some got multiple pictures

So one semester later a friend told me to get a deviantart account.

My works are posted at the username tmystery: http://tmystery.deviantart.com .

So far I posted one picture each for Kirby, Pokémon, Star Fox, and Yoshi. But I have a backload of sketches, so I plan to post more.

I used Adobe Photoshop to darken the Number 2 Pencil sketches, Adobe Illustrator to Live Trace the sketches, and then Photoshop again to finish the job (coloring).

What I need to do before starting the F-Zero, Metroid, and Zelda sketches is to figure out how to use a finer, more precise inking style. The cartoony/rounded inking works well with more cartoony series, but for others I want to use a different inking style.

There's only one which I may label as NSFW and therefore have the preview restricted (it happens to be the Wario picture)

The specific URLs of the first four drawings are:
* Kirby: http://tmystery.deviantart.com/art/Surprise-Kirby-144262141
* Star Fox: http://tmystery.deviantart.com/art/Love-Star-Fox-144272870
* Yoshi: http://tmystery.deviantart.com/art/Pride-Yoshi-144515275
* Pokémon: http://tmystery.deviantart.com/art/Joy-Pokemon-145256553

For inking, i recommend trying your hand at inking wither with pens (i recommend Faber Castel or Sakura Microns) or using Photoshop or another program (like Paint Tool SAI which has really clean lines) to ink. It takes a lot longer, but it ends up looking a lot cleaner and nicer in the end. SAI is also a great coloring tool because it has a lot of different tools to use.
Otherwise, great start :3 Cant wait to see more!

Thank you for your advice, Chrono! :) The lady who encouraged me to start a Deviantart account knows how to ink in Photoshop, so I'll ask her for advice on how to do it effectively with the Captain Falcon picture. I plan to upload the Falcon one next.

I decided to try using Paint Tool SAI and manually traced over the F-Zero image (with a mouse - not a digital pad) - But it seemed a little uneven, so I put the trace done in SAI into Adobe Illustrator for a live trace- the result is a lot smoother than the previous ones. Since F-Zero is not as cartoony as many of the other Nintendo series, I feel this style is better for this picture.

The F-Zero pic is here: http://tmystery.deviantart.com/art/Hatred-F-Zero-145355967

Yes, Falcon is using the wrong arm. It is an unintentional mistake, but since Falcon would be putting himself at a disadvantage against Goroh, I felt the mistake actually enhanced the situation, so I kept the mistake in the picture.

This was done in a collaboration with a (real life) friend of mine who happens to go on these forums (that is how I learned of Smash Boards) - He told me about the F-Zero characters, so that helped me set up the picture. His username on here is ResumeDPosition.

Its good to mix up the programs you use to achieve the best effects :3 Good job!
I would recommend getting a tablet, but i know how expensive they can get (mine was $100 for a Wacom Bamboo Fun small tablet....thats like...4x6 i think?)

Great job though! Remember to use all the materials you have to your advantage :D

Thank you very much for the feedback! In regards to the tablet, I'd have to look at how much money these things cost. I need to be careful to make sure my budget is okay, so I'll think about it.

As I color more sketches, I need to experiment with different tools and try to use different effects. The next one I plan to upload is a Legend of Zelda picture. A friend (in real life) asked me to do a Zelda picture last semester, so I made the sketch. With the knowledge of how to do finer lines, I'll try to trace over the Zelda pic and then see how the coloring will go.

Now I posted The Legend of Zelda pic here: http://tmystery.deviantart.com/art/Fear-The-Legend-of-Zelda-145866992 - It's the first time I have used gradients in Photoshop

I also posted a Metroid image here: http://tmystery.deviantart.com/art/Anxiety-Metroid-146263972
