NOTE: This is non-competitive so I decided to post this here instead of the Rating Room.

So my brother and I have a little competition over who will have the stronger team once I beat SS and he beats HG (beating Red). I decided I wanted to make a fun team to use for my first playthrough, but I got a glimpse of his team and he decided to go all out with his... I haven't even beat the Elite Four yet, but I can already tell that there's little hope for me beating him. I need some opinions on my chances of me beating him in a battle.

Soooo here are the teams (* = our powerhouse Pokemon)-

Mine-
Typhlosion
Ampharos
Golem
Slowbro
Heracross *
Togekiss *

My brother's team-
Feraligatr
Ampharos
Crobat
Gengar* <---crap
Dragonite* <---double crap
Tyranitar* <---wow im f****d

I know very little about competitive Pokemon, but I know for a fact that Heracross will be able to keep T-tar in check while Togekiss will be able to take down Dragonite, T-Tar, and Crobat without breaking a sweat. Slowbro will be able to take down his Feraligatr but idk if it can handle his Gengar. His Ampharos won't be a threat at all since it can be taken down by 4 out of my 6 Pokemon.

So just judging by looking at our teams, which do YOU think would win in a battle? Remember this is non-competitive, so don't get too serious!

Quickly change your team without your brother looking and get a Mamoswine which will rip most of his team apart.

Or just use Rock Polish Golem and have a way to handle Feraligatr.

Lol we both know each others teams so unfortunately I can't do that.

Hmm I could switch Golem in on his Amphy and get a free Rock Polish in. Then that sets me up for a free explosion on his Feraligatr!

Supermarth you're a genious! Never thought of that.

Nonono I meant handle Feraligatr first then sweep his team using Golem, not use Golem to kill Feraligatr.

Yeah, handle Feraligatr with Ampharos / Slowbro, and then sweep with Golem. What does your Typhlosion know?

Spire approves of your team, by the way.

If Ubers are allowed you should use Lugia. I'm assuming they aren't though.

Rock Polish Golem with Earthquake, Explosion or Body Slam, and Stone Edge combined with Life Orb should be able to take out his Ampharos, Crobat, Dragonite, and maybe his Tyranitar. Before you sweep with him though you should take out both his Feraligatr AND his Gengar since he could mindgame you into Exploding on something but then switch to Gengar to screw you over. If you have the item, Life Orb would be best, but White Herb or Leftovers or something else is fine too. If you don't have either of those, a type-enhancing item like Soft Sand or Hard Stone will work fine.

Put a Choice Band or Choice Scarf on Heracross and make sure he knows Night Slash to take out Gengar. Also teach him Stone Edge or Rock Slide so he can hit flying switch-ins. Other than that be sure to have his 2 best STAB moves - Megahorn and Close Combat.

Ampharos is just not a good pokemon but if you must use him I'd reccommend a Reflect build to bulk up your sweepers. Then you can round out his moveset with Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, and Signal Beam. You can use Light Clay or Leftovers on him. If you don't have those you can use a recovery berry or a type-enhancing item.

For Slowbro you want Leftovers definitely and also Surf, Psychic, Slack Off and Light Screen. Light Screen is a filler move because I don't know how much BP you have at Battle Frontier and whether or not you can afford Toxic, but you can replace it with Toxic if you can afford it. If you don't have Leftovers then use some kind of HP recovery berry.

The build for Togekiss depends on what its ability is. If its ability is Hustle you should breed for one with Serene Grace run a mixed sweeper with Extremespeed, Aura Sphere, Air Slash, Roost, and a type-enhancing item for one of those types. If its ability is Serene Grace, you can run basically the same build but with Ancientpower instead of Extremespeed.

For Typhlosion I have no ideas. I would suggest a Sunny Day build Typhlosion but the inclusion of Tyranitar on your opponent's team makes that kind of pointless. However, you could use a Power Herb on him and combine it with Solar Beam to make the charge time a non-issue and just Solar Beam whatever your opponent's counter will be, as it will hit both TTar and Feraligatr for super effective damage. So you have Sunny Day and Solar Beam and you obviously need a fire-type move. You can use Eruption, Fire Blast, or Flamethrower here - any one will work. For your fourth move I suggest Focus Blast as it will do a LOT of damage to Tyranitar.

So overall your team should look like:

Typhlosion @ Power Herb
Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Eruption
Focus Blast

Ampharos @ Light Clay
Reflect
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Signal Beam

Golem @ Life Orb
Rock Polish
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Explosion

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Slack Off
Light Screen
Surf
Psychic

Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Megahorn
Close Combat
Night Slash
Stone Edge

Togekiss @ Black Belt
Air Slash
Aura Sphere
Ancientpower
Roost

Typhlosion @ Power Herb
Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Eruption
Focus Blast

Ahhh Focus Blast. Forgot about that move. That's another option to take out T-tar. Sunny Day will prevent Feraligatr from having its way with my team, and of course two Solar Beams should 2-HKO it. Only question I have now is should Typh be my lead or Amphy...?

Ampharos @ Light Clay
Reflect
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Signal Beam

Yeah Amphy really isn't really a good Pokemon, but again this team is just for fun and I had one on my first Silver runthrough so I felt obligated to get one again. I'm really liking the moveset though, because I was pretty much clueless on what a proper moveset for Amphy would look like. Good type coverage + Reflect for support. Me gusta.

Golem @ Life Orb
Rock Polish
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Explosion

That's the exact moveset I had in mind. I just hope it has enough speed to out run most of my brother's Pokemon after a Rock Polish... This makes me want to breed a new Golem now lol.

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Slack Off
Light Screen
Surf
Psychic

Exact moveset I had in mind but I had Ice Beam instead of Light Screen to take care of Dragonite. Idk I feel like Dragonite might have his way with my team if I don't have at least one Pokemon with Ice beam, but my team could use some support... Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't I have at least one Ice Beamer on my team for Nite? If I do then either Togekiss or Slowbro will have it.

Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Megahorn
Close Combat
Night Slash
Stone Edge

Yup the standard Heracross sweeper moveset! No complaints here!

Togekiss @ Black Belt
Air Slash
Aura Sphere
Ancientpower
Roost

My Togekiss has Serene Grace! :) The exact moveset I had in mind but I had Ice Beam instead of Ancientpower (yeah I'm paranoid about Dragonite lol), but now that I think about it, Ancientpower will definitely be a better choice here thanks to SG.
Gates you're awesome man! This is definitely more than I needed. My brother won't know what hit him now! :chuckle: Thanks a bunch!

TWave is hard to get in-game which is why I didn't suggest it. If you can get it though, go with Paraflinch definitely.

If you have Ice Beam you can put it on Slowbro instead of Light Screen or Ampharos instead of Reflect.

he should have a t-wave tm and ampharos learns t-wave naturally, so use t-wave on one of the two, paraflinch is the gayest thing possible, especially with togekiss having serene grace

ancient power provides great SE coverage but aura sphere and air slash is only resisted by zapdos and rotom, so he's fine coverage wise (there are no electric/poison, electric/psychic, ghost/steel, nor ghost/rock pokemon yet so he's fine)

The Thunder Wave TM is only gotten by buying it for 32 BP after grinding in Battle Frontier. Even though it's a TM you can buy repeatedly, it's still hard to get and requires a lot of endgame grinding (I think you get like 3 BP for each cycle of Battle Frontier you go through? It takes a ridiculously long time).

I just want to point out that Ampharos can learn neither Shadow Ball nor Ice Beam.

Oh **** you're right. In that case just put Reflect and Light Screen on him and make him a Dual Screener. It's all he'll be good for.

As weird as this sounds I actually love the Battle Frontier. If it's the same as the one on Platinum then I should have no problem getting a bunch of BP.

Since Amphy doesn't get Shadow Ball, I can give it both Light Screen and Reflect, which will give Slowbro the slot it needed for Ice Beam. And since Togekiss doesn't necessarily need Ancient Power, TW will be a great replacement. So it should look like this:

Togekiss @ Black Belt
Air Slash
Aura Sphere
Thunder Wave
Roost

Wow that's going to be a b**** of a Togekiss to deal with. I LOVE IT! :)

That's why m4f brought up using Thunder Wave on Ampharos, as it does that job for Togekiss.

Oh, well if it's no object then you could change Togekiss to have TWave and Slowbro to have Toxic instead of Light Screen.

That makes sense but it seems less reliable. If Togekiss paralyzes stuff itself then it's more reliable than Ampharos just paralyzing random things and hoping Togekiss can come in on them.

Well what role would Ampharos perform better as? A dual screener or a Thunder Wave...er?
Neither tbh Ampharos is terrible. If I had to pick though, I'd say TWave since you have access to 3 attacks that way.
