I always wonder about how the good players came to be so good. Is it because they train for like, 12 hours a day? Is it because they brawl with people even better than they are?
I personally train for 7-9 hours, offline or online with registerd friends.

I'll never know the true answer to that, since the answer is different with so many people :dizzy:.

Now, I'm a good Kirby player. I can admit that. So many people have brawled me and say they're so suprised by my playing style...But I've been beaten by players that I can't even get a hit on. (SNAAAAAAAAAKE!!)

Not only with Kirby. I've been using Falcon, Ganon, Bowser, Marth, Snake, Ike, and Olimar, in my journey to become better. And I've been complimented on them as well. (Never use Shadow Moses on me, Bowser pwns at tethering .)

I've never gone to a single tourney or tournement once since I was introduced to the Smash series. I've only been using this site primarily for finding people to brawl with (And to have random insane crazy moments). Should I be joining them to become better? But...well, it's not like my mom is willing to waste gas to drive me to a tournement just for me to play and lose...And I don't understand the full meaning of a tourney...But I assume you have to drive somewhere and met people to brawl with. Plus, I haven't heard much from South Carolina...

So here I am. Writing on a blog/thread for me to reflect on...I had a pretty swelled ego about myself when I first joined Smashboards, and it quickly went down as I've lost matches...and the chances of actually making regular brawling friends :urg:.

And now I sit back and wait for the comments come from people who have read this ._.

In an alternate universe.
i'll hopefully be attending my first tournament this weekend, on my quest to compare and show people my skills. i aspire to be a well known brawler in australia and/or the world at some point, however long that might be, im willing to do it.

dont get yourself down on this man, i live in a town with no tourny scene, i only have one friend to verse and train with. so it's not that great for me.

all it comes down to is your own will to become better imo.

Go to tournaments to get an experience, this will allow you to play better. WiFi is OKAY, but tourneys are where it's at.

I know how ya feel. I'm practically in the same situation. Never been to a tourney. Never been to a legit smashfest. I don't think I can become pro, but if you can become better and even top rated, why not? Diligence, I think I recently found a place I can commute to for smashfests... but it'd be about $17 to get there round trip on a train. I don't work. I hope ya can find something that'll suit you.

Where people get NOTHING.
Games are for fun. If you intend to go somewhere with this like enter tourneys and stuff, training helps. But it's in what you want to do. I did it and would like to still do it because I want to go to tourneys and win somday, hopefully before the end of brawl's lifespan.

What do you plan to do with the game? Are you going to go out and travel to tourneys? Or just keep messing around on wifi? Why do you want to become stronger/better?

Check the tourney listings and the regional subforum for events in your area if you are going to go to tourneys at some point.

Offer to pay for the the trip if you can get a hoold of the money. That somtimes works. Didn't work for my Mom but hey you never know xD.

Yes. Me too nick. i never been to a single tournament. but now, i'm joing online tourneys. so that means i'll be playing players that i haven't played before. this is one thing that i never expected me to do. i posted a simalr blog/thread and some members told me to go to tournaments. but that can't be arranged becasue i'd have to travel. not cool. there's never any local things going on. so wifi is my only option. but only untill i'm older, have a car, a lot better in brawl and have the time to go places.

For people who don't have access to others to play with, you'll have to travel. But I'm not going to tell you how to do something, I'm going to tell you what to do.

Play people better than you as much as possible. Dedicate yourself to a character and learn their MUs. Tourneys and smashfests are key to getting better.

If its your dream, then go for it. My goal and situation is very similar to yours. Who cares if people say you'll never make it or you have no life because you play video games? (Which is complete rubbish imo) If it makes you happy, it'll all be worthwile in the end..even if things don't turn out as planned. But if you want to be an "expert" then you really have to get out there and go to tournaments. Tournaments really are the place you learn the most about playing Smash.

keep in mind it's about 80% mental. You have to adapt and never get mad during a match there are a few very useful guides in the melee discusstion adn don't pull the I don't play melee C*** because it's about your mind not the game.

But melee does help make one adapt faster and stuff heck isn't m2k the best in brawl and a few other melee players

Thanks for the advices, bros. :bigthumbu

I see I'm going to have to wait until I get old enough to own a car...and to be able to drive it...yeah, that'll help me :lick:..

I can't brawl online right now...I guess a famous thing about me is that I always have Wi-fi problems . Only this time, I think my new aunt's router is incompatible with the Wii/DS...and if that's the case....THAT SUCKS FOR ME !

I've been so busy with school, I haven't had enough time to brawl :dizzy:. But, I am practicing my techniques....I've improved my Ganon and Bowser....And I've had some "Random" matches as well...I miss those. I guess after having so many strict, FD only matches, it kinda affects you :ohwell:.

Tourneys sound interesting, but I can't attend those at the time. I just started school a month ago, so it's gonna be a while before I can try that out :lick:.

♥ My post count is my age. Deal with it.
Summer time + Own Car + Money + Skill + Tourney = Good stuff that you'll need for expert (in training)

I'm a causal brawler, but I play competitively.

So you can go causal and play tournament style.
But that is no fun. :(
