So I recently got a game I had high hopes for, and got something different from my expectations... not to say that it's bad, however.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is the first KH game that DOESN'T star that goody-two-shoes Sora and his anthropomorphic pals. It instead focuses mainly on his Nobody, Roxas, for the main game and allows you to play as the whole Organization in Mission Mode, which I have been longing to see. There are also six secret characters, but I won't reveal those for the sake of spoilers.

Now, the good things I like about this game is the overall feel of it. You do missions to further the Organization's goals, including taking out Heartless, recon, and the like. This really lets you feel like you're a part of a secret underground Organization with actual jobs and such. The focus on the Nobodies is something I really like, as they are the only characters in the series I like... except for Commander Sark and Tron (Tron was a f***ing epic movie.). The upgradeable options you have with them are great, as you can change their weapons and give them equipment and abilities. Each member, save for a few, has their own unique stats, and there's a character for every playstyle. There's also something I've long waited to see: multiplayer. Yes, multiplayer. Team up with your friends and go on missions as members of the Organization. Me and my friend had so much fun playing as Luxord and Demyx together through mission mode.

While all these are great, there are some pretty glaring flaws. The camera is absolutely terrible, even worse than the God-awful KH1 camera. I fought the camera more than the Heartless themselves. I noticed this immediately when I started playing. While this may seem like a nitpicking complaint, you will ragequit when you can't see around a corner or see enemy attacks flying at you while emo kid Roxas is blocking 75% of the top screen running at you. This is especially terrible in recon missions.

The system for equipping weapons, magic, items, equipment, and abilities uses things called panels. Everything, and I mean everything, you get is a panel, and to equip that you must put the panel into a slot. The Slot Menu has about 40 slots on three different tabs, making 120 slots available total. While many panels are single slot, most weapons are 3-6 slots (so you can equip boosts to it) and while this is good, if you dodn't have the things to equip it to... your slots are taken up and useless for then. Many key things you may want might not fit, especially in the early parts of the game when you have from 10-20 slots available and the latter parts when you have too much stuff to fit it all. It's like... a puzzle. Or Tetris.

As for battling, 70% of your missions are "defeat X" or "collect hearts and defeat Heartless". I love combat, and it's what made KH2 the most fun for me, but the combat system is terrible in this game. Yeah, I know that it's a DS yada-yada, but the enemies have super-high defense and EVERY battle comes down to locking on, getting up close, and hammering the A button to slash wildly at the enemies. Half the enemies and most of the bosses are BROKEN (I swear, Leechgrave is the most annoying boss in any video game, ever). It sounds like a challenge, and it is, it's just... a challenge to see who will get the most whacks in at a time. Doing it with friends actually lightens it a bit, and it can get fun quickly, but solo... it is not fun, at all.

There's my two cents. Overall, I give 358/2 Days a three out of five. The multiplayer and mission mode is fun, but the terrible camera, fights, and panel system make it fall short of what I expected. Way short.

Ugh, to me, the panel system was worse than the card system in KH:CoM. I especially hated it that every **** level took up a panel 9_9 (although it did gradually get better with all the Lvl Doublers and Triplers and whatnot).

And, yeah, Leechgrave was a major *****. Took out all my potions, Cure magic, ethers, and more Cure magic to beat it. =P

You think I should pick up two and play it first? Just beat one the other week, I absolutely loved it. I want this so I can play it between classes and stuff, but I'm not sure if storyline will be a problem, thoughts?

Well... it really doesn't matter if you play KH2 before or after this. This takes place between KH1 and 2, but you can understand KH2's storyline just as fin without even playing this game. So, do what's best for you.

rofl @ Leechgrave xD. I rather fight it than Infernal Engine. That thing gave me the most trouble.

I agree whole-heartedly. The main thing that pulled me through was the story. There isn't much they could have done for a mere DS game, but I must say it was done very well considering it being 3D with decent sound. The one thing I was shocked by was Neverland being its own world. New music and area. I really liked how there was at least one world that wasn't a duplicate. They could have made that stage much better however.

The mission system was meh. After a while, I started skipping the non-mandatory ones because I wanted it to get them over with. I give it a bit higher rating, because for a 3D DS game, it played remarkably smooth, regardless of how annoyingly difficult the battle system was. lol

Ugh, speaking of broken Heartless, how about the Dustflier? That thing made me ragequit for three days. Yeah, and Leechgrave was aggravating as well. I was all like, "Okay, gotta kill these groping hands... WTF?! They ATE me!" I hated how you couldn't even damage the Leechgrave decently until you got rid of those stupid hands.

Infernal Engine was definitely annoying too. Yeah, the story, graphics, music, and worlds were well done. Neverland being its own world was great, but have to fight the Wave heartless in the air with that battle and camera system... *shudders*

Huh, I haven't gotten to Dustflier (I think... I'm only on day 300, give or take).

The Dustflier is really not that hard of an enemy if you fight it right. Just keep your distance (until it is clearly safe to attack), keep moving with Glide, and sink everything you can into getting a higher chance of critical hits.

Ruler of the Sky was a grind fight. I hate chase battles. I forgot what Dustflier was. Was it a unique enemy?

Gah, Ruler of the Sky took me half an hour to kill. Dustflier was a superboss that appeared in day 353 or 354's mission after you filled up the mission gauge not completely, but enough to RTC. I believe it was a unique enemy.

Am I the only one who found the game/ fighting system easy?

I just equipped Leviathan+ for most of the game, due to it's incredible aerial combo, and with Ability Units you could get the aerial combo dash thing. I used that from when I got it until the final day or two, just because I wanted something with good strength to help me not get screwed in the end part.

Leechgrave was a pain, but that was due to the fact it takes you ages to get to him when you die. Once I realised what to do I got him on the second go. The worst part in that world was the room with all those Search Ghosts. Infernal Engine was tough the first two goes, but I got him on my third, but after you finish the game and get above level 60, Infernal Engine dies in like 15 seconds XD. Ruler of the Sky is the only boss I still have trouble with, except Dustflier in Mission Mode.

I never had that much of a problem with the camera. All I wanted was to be able to move it up and down more. The lock on annoyed me- as you'd always target somethin you didn't want to, especially when there were barrels around.

The thing that I'm having trouble with are the challenges, and the missions that are impossible with Lexaeus (Ruler of the Sky). I have 210 Challenge Sigils, and like 240 Mission Crowns, but there are some challenges that are just plain difficult, or ones that involve being timed in the underground tunnels of Twilight Town, as I always get lost in there.

Still, it's a great game, although a bit easy, and while I enjoyed Kingdom Hearts a bit more, I find this one more playable once you've completed the game, thanks to said level grinding at the end of the game to beat challenges, and multiplayer.

Also, I hate recon missions with a passion.

Depends on what difficulty you had it on. It made a huge difference for me.
I was playing it on my computer. lol
Most of the stronger Keyblades had horrible fighting styles. I did like the Wild class ones. Aerial combating was always my favorite, and probably a lot better when fighting bosses. I never touched the Mission Modes. I only played to see how they fight, but I honestly could not do those missions all over again.

Leechgrave had the best boss design imo.

My favourite boss design was Crimson Prankster, although I preffered Trickmaster's colour. I also liked the Dark Follower, who I had forgot about- he was a pain to fight if you had a keyblade with a long aerial combo, as you'd still be stuck to his arm slashing it as he punches the ground and makes a shockwave.

Apart from a certain few parts, the game was easy; and I had a hard time on a lot of the first one, but that was mainly just getting lost, Clayton and Stealth Sneak and the Pot Centipede.

That was probably the only interesting boss in the game. It wasn't just a grind fight. You had to think before killing one of them.
