The MultiVersus team has just announced that Season 5 of MultiVersus will be the final seasonal content update for the game. You can view the full message here or down below:

Hi everyone,

We have an important update to share regarding MultiVersus. After careful consideration, our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game. MultiVersus Season 5 will begin on February 4, 2025, and run through May 30, 2025, adding two new playable characters to the roster – DC’s Aquaman and Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny. All new Season 5 content, including Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be earnable through gameplay. Both new characters will be accessible when Season 5 begins on February 4 at 9 a.m. PST – Aquaman via the Battle Pass as the first tier reward and Lola as the daily calendar login reward.

All online features will continue to be available until Season 5 concludes on May 30 at 9 a.m. PST. At that point, there will be an option to play MultiVersusoffline via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends. To do this, you’ll need to install/download the latest version of the game and log in during Season 5, any time between February 4 at 9 a.m. PST and May 30 at 9 a.m. PST. After logging in, a local save file will be automatically created connected to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, allowing you to enjoy the game offline with all earned and purchased content moving forward.

As of today, January 31, real money transactions will no longer be available for MultiVersus, which means you can no longer purchase Gleamium, but you can still use remaining Gleamium or character tokens to access in-game content until Season 5 ends on May 30 at 9 a.m. PST. Additionally, when Season 5 finishes, the game will no longer be available to download via the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.

Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.

We hope that you all enjoy the final Season of MultiVersus. For more information, please visit our Season 5 FAQ or follow our social/community channels.

Season 5, which will begin on February 4th and end on May 30th, will include Aquaman from DC comics and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes. After May 30th, all online features of the game will shut down. The game can still be played offline with either friends or computer opponents, however you must download the latest version of the game between February 4th to May 30th. Additionally, you can no longer make any real world money transactions as of today.

Originally available via early access and beta versions from 2022-2023, MultiVersus officially released in June of 2024 following a roughly one year hiatus from the beta’s closure. Featuring characters from several Warner Bros. IPs, the game looked to be a fun platform fighter where you could duke it out with someone like Shaggy or Batman. Unfortunately the game was plagued with various questionable decisions, such as being too over reliant on real world money transactions.

Author’s Note: I knew this game wasn’t doing that good already, but dang even I didn’t expect the game to shut down this early (especially with the game still having so many completed characters according to rumors). What are your thoughts on this shutdown and MultiVersus as a whole? Let us know in the comments below!

It seems to be Warner Bros' go-to to just monetize a game as much as they possibly can then shut it down instead of ever budging and making it something people would actually be willing to spend money on.

What's crazy to me is that this seems to state that even after the game shuts down you will only be able to use the things you've purchased??? Even in the grave they're still holding onto that it feels kind of ridiculous.

Sad but not surprising. I assume WB is the reason why they shoved monetization into every little corner of the game, which was a big reason why it turned people away. Then you had all those people who were like “but they give free skins”, which is honestly a joke. The free content compared to other games vs the monetization was horrendously off balance.

And other games gave free content way more often and without locking it behind hours of the same repetitive cycle to maybe get the character or skin you want; and without dangling 6 skins you’ll never be able to get because FOMO and they cost real money.

Combining that with the fact we know from leaks at least 30 other characters were in varying stages of development( several of them finished) and yet they made poor roster choice after poor roster choice; and the game died out faster understandably so.

Like I said it sucks, because I did play a lot of it, But both WB and PFG really screwed up in their handling of this game. Which is a shame because PFG seemed to care and have a lot of great ideas and content coming, they just didn’t learn their lesson from the first shutdown.

Hopefully we can see the game concept revisited in future and done way better.
