Don't waste your time. Get it on PC. It's A LOT better due to the mods.

Trust me, I got Morrowind the year it came out (2001 or 2002) and I played it all the way until last June thanks to the massive modding community. I'm talking close to 20,000 mods in existence some adding HOURS of content. Oblivion is getting there. Here's hoping Oblivion Online (Morrowind Online was well done and decently fun, but the Engine left a lot to be wanted)

Crimson speaks the truth. The modding community for Elder Scrolls is insanely huge. I can't really play recent Elder Scrolls games anymore unless I have some of the "necessary" mods. The mods come in all shapes and sizes: armor, textures, skins, models, houses and other buildings, spells, combat tweaks, etc. Try to get your hands on the PC version.

Morrowind and Oblivion are different sides of the same coin. Morrowind is a very story driven RPG game whereas Oblivion focuses on combat more. Both are spectacular games, regardless.

No. For games like this that are so polished and excellently done, you have no legitimate reason to download it. Plus you can get all 3 Morrowind games (Morrowind + Tribunal/Bloodmoon for $20ish).

You think Morrowind is more story driven? Really?

Morrowind might have more story, but Oblivion's story drives the game to a much greater extent than Morrowind's does, in my opinion.

Anyway, they're both absolutely awesome games. I have to say, I prefer Oblivion to Morrowind, simply because it's more accessible, and because the combat makes more sense. I hated how I could swing a sword at somebody point blank at somebody's back in a sneak attack, and it was just a role of the dice whether I hit or not. That just made no sense to me, whatsoever.

As for the accessibility, I feel like Oblivion pulls you right into the story, and the compass and fast traveling helps people who don't want to just have to wander around the place cluelessly, as I often did in Morrowind. The new journal system is a godsend too.

However, the one area in which I feel Oblivion lacks most is environmental diversity. In Morrowind, you not only had climate changes (which are present in Oblivion too), but also cultural changes. The gigantic organic mushroom cities in Morrowind were great, and I miss that kind of thing in Oblivion. All the cities in Oblivion feel really similar.
