that sounds good but... isn't grabbing supposed to be the original shield breaker? plus it's quicker! they're going to see you charge up your smash attack or see you about to do one... then dodge behind you and throw you...

Grabbing is nothing like shield-breaking. With a shield-break, you can proceed to annihilate them with a hard hitting move. With grabs, you either hit them lightly or throw them away.

Personally I don't think there should be any completely shield breaking moves (maybe 1) but having ones that take out a lot more of the opponents shield I would love. Slow attacks that take out 3/4 of a shield and were safe on hit would be awesome. I would really like to see a character that could take out shield good enough that you would likely see it happen at least once a match.

Team giza! good idea i like... i was about to mention that idea. it woudl make sense that more poweful attacks should shrink the sheild.

Yeah, instant shield-breaks might get outta hand, but more moves should reduce the shield so far that if the shield took any damage previously then it should break.

personally i think they have a good thing going y mess with it. By adding just a few characters with shield breakers it could possibly mess up the balance of chars in the game but it could possibly work out well, most likely a double-edged sword...

Plus, it would discourage newer players who keep getting their sheilds massacred.
You assume new players use shields?

Smash bros could definitely use more character diversity and this would be a great way to add it.

LOL! For my first few months of playing (2002), I never shielded. I knew it was there, but it was "a sign of weakness".

Shield grabbing is great. Holding the shield down for 5 seconds before you grab is not great.

Except for characters with awful grabs (Samus, Link, Y.Link), or slower characters that don't land grabs as often.

All you have to do against Samus is turtle in your shield for about half and hour, hit her like once, and wait like 3 seconds for your shield to regenerate, and the only thing they can do is hope for a shield poke or attempt a shield grab, which gets stopped if you jump.

And yeah, it seems to be a trend that noobs rarely shield, but spam roll like no other.

I cry whenever I see Ganondorf's Warlock Punch get casually shielded, so I support this.

As for laggy attacks breaking shields, I think it'd be best to have them break shields if you press shield and the other person starts the attack at the exact same frame (so you're holding shield through the entire startup animation).

yeah, sometimes I see too much shield spamming resulting in lengthier matches that are just annoying. I think the stronger the smash, the more shield is taken away.

I would still rather make it attack (plus charge) specific for more variety. That way there would be attacks that are weak on hit but take out shields pretty well. Imagine if Mr. Game&Watch's chair gave loads of shield stun and knocked the shield down by about a half or more.

Wario's fart should shield break at maximum charge. It just seems too fitting with his comedic nature that a huge fart would knock someone out.
