Smash Apprentice
Version 3.0 was the last update to add new playable characters to P:M (in particular Mewtwo and Roy). Since then, I've wondered: Could more characters come to P:M? This would obviously include anyone not featured as a playable character in Sm4sh.
One of the first characters that comes to mind for me is Pichu as he/she/it is the only character from Melee who has not yet been added to the game. There would have to be some Luigification to Pichu like what was done to Roy. Perhaps make Pichu faster than Pikachu while still retaining a nerfed version of the self-damaging mechanic.
Ridley is another character who comes to mind. While he certainly has his detractors, he does have quite a large fanbase as well. In addition, there are several well-designed PSAs to draw from for inspiration (including one in production right now). He would be the first original character in the game and it would be intriguing to see how he could be done. Dark Samus and Isaac would be two others who have a large fanbase as well.
