Mono-Type Run-Throughs

I think everyone knows what this means. Playing through an entire Pokemon game (the minimum of defeating the Elite 4 and becoming the Champion) with an entire team made of the same type. This includes dual-types, so something like Gallade and Infernape work on a Mono-Fighting team, as they both share the Fighting-type. Exceptions are HM slaves (which you don't use for battle anyways) and Pokemon you can't get for the desired type at the start of the game (i.e. using Charmander until you can catch Pikachu in LeafGreen for a Mono-Electric run).

I have completed 4 mono-type runs and am currently working on another.

Mono-Poison run in FireRed: Venusaur, Crobat, Tentacruel, Nidoking, Haunter
Mono-Water run in Ruby: Swampert, Lanturn, Gyarados, Pelipper, Wailord, Sharpedo
Mono-Grass run in Ruby: Sceptile, Tropius, Vileplume, Shiftry, Breloom
Mono-Flying run in FireRed: Charizard, Pidgeot, Zapdos, Butterfree, Aerodactyl

Currently working: Mono-Fighting run in Ruby: Blaziken, Machoke, Hariyama, Meditite

I think doing Mono-Type runs give a change of pace to playing Pokemon, and some can be downright challeneging.

mono-runthroughs seem very limited considering how long it takes to get certain types of pokemon...

Not to mention there is a very limited number of pokemon types that are starters...

@WouW: That would be quite fun: Scizor, Ledian, Heracross, Beedrill and whatever else there is. XD

@P.I.: Well yes, but that's why there are exceptions. Some things like Mono-Steel through FireRed are obviously near-impossible, and it's such a long time before you can Magnemite anyways.

Of course it is. You just grind Chimchar enough to beat Roxanne (or whoever it was) with Mach Punch and Potions.

Good luck at that Water gym though. Grass Knot is your best bet.

I was speaking Diamond Pearl. xD

Ponyta IS the only other fire in Diamond and Pearl

If it were really talking Platinum, getting a full fire team wouldn't be a problem

I so wish I could do this for mono-dark in HG/SS.

Too bad there are only five dark types available throughout the entire game (of GSC, of course), and only one available before the E4. D:

Silly Bowser! Tricks are for kids!
How about making an entirely dark-type run through of D&P? That would be really neat (Dark types are too underrated).

Oddly enough, it's not possible in DPPt either. I want to say you can get five in Diamond and Platinum and three in Pearl. D:

In RSE, however, it's possible. Ruby and Sapphire each have 6 and Emerald has 7. So yeah...I think I'll do that one. Just another reason for 3rd gen to be my second favorite. <3

Although...this does remind me. Why the **** is the Shinx evo line NOT dark type? The thing screams ele/dark, imo...

Might try a Steel-only run through of HGSS later. If I remember right you can get Onix really early and headbutt some trees for a Pineco
