Ok...I have a couple friends who get annoyed by my marth because "ur **** sword is too long" so they end up playing roy / marth, picking FD and then just waiting there for me to approach so they can f-smash me, shield breaker, etc. Most of the time I end up taking the bait anyways and just charge in hoping to pull off a counter in their face or dash-canceling into a smash. Both however are easily punished and very easy to see. Sometimes I also try jumping over their heads but I always seem to judge their sword range wrong and jump right into the tip of the sword.

I was wondering since I'm no good at shffling, I think I should work on my in-game tactics before I try to do too many advanced things like SHFFLing or anything like that. Does anyone understand where I'm coming from and have any advice for a marth player like me?

I have no idea what you are talking about but I think Up smash may be what you are looking for.

well I tried the shielding thing but for some reason it won't come up. But newaiz @SuperSmasher: I can beat them but it just gets annoying that I have to endure some noobie c-sticking, just waiting there to f-smash me and knowing that I'm also being a noob for rushing in and just trying to keep the pace up. Once I get a hit in though they're usually doomed by my "uber long pwnsabre" or so my friend calls it xD

So should I just be patient and be the one waiting for him to come attack me instead? Or is there a a simple way around his f-smash that I'm just not thinking of?

Like Salaad said, you could run in and shield, then wavedash out of shield with an attack and punish them. It's as easy as that.

...or dash dance around him to provoke him to fsmash or use his shieldbreaker and then punish him.

I don't know, there are many ways to punish a predictable opponent.

Hi, I'm an aspiring Smasher that enjoys playing with my friends. He's a little cheap and I'm not sure how to get around it, any help from some of you advanced players?

"this topic needs 2 be shot @ close range w/ slugs!! GTFONOOB"

He needed some help, he got some help. Almost everything said here was valid for getting around somebody like that.

Was that post really needed? I mean, come on...

Mindgaming a waiting c stick marth?

Thats like asking.

"Grabbing a shielding opponent?"

It is Extremely low level and could have been solved if the TC had just thought for themselves, I hate topics that little to no brainpower was used in making.

Yes, it was very necessary.

If your playstyle is confined to a plane, there is no third dimension to think about. That's why Smash World Forums exists-- People need to find another dimension of thought and apply it to smash. If we can set someone on the right track, they'll start to think for themselves the right way instead of being confined to non-advanced technical thinking.

Also shooting someone's thread isn't a very nice way to greet them. It's like Kaizo Mario World's introduction.

People need to learn common sense.

"He waits and smashes me...oh noes" come on, thats just...like in a fps, its borderlining

"Man, if I stand still, he kills me" thats how dumb is sounds and about how easy it is to get around.

I'm an overly arrognant obsessive complusive egotestic smasher who has serious mental issues with the general public outlook of intelligence and knowhow in smash. So sue me.

I find the law system a waste of time and resources. So no, I won't sue you.

You may not like topics like this, but at the very least, you could avoid them. Some people are willing to help and get them on their way, and it doesn't take much to get somebody goin in this game...

I will third that and give my help on this one.Ok do not feel bad if you are losing to another marth in marth dittos because it is a ******** match up.Instead try to see this as a test of patience , marth is fast enough to get grabs in without get f-smashed so you need to start there and after that start anticipating what they will do instead of trying to jump over him. It's all about doing things that will work not to be too fancy.Don't fall for dum tatics like these and don't get mad about it , you should know what your own character is capable of and realize that your enemy has just as many options as you do and the only thing you have to do is playing a smarter game then them. Can't say muh more then this but if your looking for an annoying thing to do go for a triple foward chain throw and on the third one f-smash.since it seems they dont play marth they probably wont think of DIing away from it so go crazy.

just think for yourselves. if you want to get better then posting questions here should be a last resort. even watching vids > giving up and asking here

You don't remember the times when you watched videos and went "Wow how do they do that?"

I remember playing with some guy for 8 hours straight one night, then a break, then a few more hours. I learned ledge-hopped attacks that night from asking how we was doing it.

I doubt I would have figured it out on my own very quick. It may seem like common knowledge, something stupid and easy right now, but think back, really do.

I agree that somebody shouldn't have to come and ask questions about everything, but this guy is new, it's not a big deal.

I've asked my fair share of easy questions, no denying it. Most of the stuff I learn now is FROM videos. Watching other Marth players play and then testing them out myself. I don't need to ask about them because I can grasp what's going on well enough to figure it out on my own.

Though I'm still not sure how to do that thing with Sheik... where they just up-b onto the edge over and over. That looks awesome, but I've never done it. =P

I don't play sheik, but I believe there are at least two different ways of doing it. One is similar to the fox/falco infinite firefox next to the ledge. Press the control stick up and diagonally toward the side away from the edge. That initiates the up B directly next to the edge. It works for all characters, but is not useful for characters such as marth.

The other way is to quickly press down on the control stick, then do the up B. That way sheik sweet spots the ledge vertically (aiming the up B down vertically) . I've never used this method in a real game, though. I don't play sheik very often :)

what im saying is, asking how to do a technique is one thing, how to use your brain is another. im sorry that you are new here and dont understand much, but in order to get better at anything you have to think for yourself and learn it your own way. if you want to copy someone else, thats all you will ever be; at best, a copy.

I'd be happy if I could at best, be a copy of ken xD I'd be a thousand-aire from all those smash tournaments. And then after I retire I'd spend all that money on my dream Acura RSX Type-S with a chrome shift knob ,carbon fiber hood, ...*goes on for a good 5 minutes*... and complete it by lowering it to 2 inches off the ground...muha :chuckle: ...newaiz......

I figured out why my shield never came out while i was running. I always turn back around before I attempted to shield and it ended up doing the turning animation and that turning animation couldn't go into a shielding animation so it never came out when I attempted to pull up a shield in their face.

Also as a last question, do you guys know a good way to gather some good smashers in my area so that I won't have to play the same people over and over again? I live in CA if anyone in CA is reading this =P

Another side-note...anyone here good at ping-pong? xD sorry this is getting so off-topic...

"I'm going to cali. I'm gonna **** those foo's. nobody good lives in cali." -Gimpyfish (my sig lol)

anyways, you dont want to be a copy. when you become his copy, you will have his tech skill (which is not much really, if u want to copy tech skill copy m2k) and none of the mind games. therefore, you lose. Ken is good, but its not like he is playing a hidden character or anything. hes no different than you or me, and any of us could beat him (if you know how)
