im starting to realize what mindgames are and how to use them to predict my opponents moves and i have only came up with only 2 mindgame therories.

1.i have gotten used to seeing my opponints first few moves like his first two moves when he does a double jump weather it being and aireal, lazor, waveland, airdodge, etc and i try to predict thoes moves into my game once i see that he does them the most often and try starting a combo from them. i also do this by the way he recovers and gets back onto the stage.

2.i pretty much sense hes going to change someting and predict it. for this ill give you an example. im falco hes fox.

im standing and runs up a dash attaks me and i spotdodge and grab him and throw him back. i do this 3 times then he waits a little and i sense that. then he charges at me stops waiting for a spotdoge but instead i just grab him.

these are the main 2 mindgames that i have come up with so far and i was woundering if these are the only mindgames or if i could improve these mindgames also with approches and other tecniques. also could you tell me how to practice mindgames because i havnt got that much better since i first tried to do them thanx

i dont know if id call those mindgames or just knowing your friends fox well, but the only 2? no way, there arent any number of mindgames, its not a tech like WDing its more of a general term for a wide range of moves. mindgames' uses range from disguising your intention to calling out wrong moves from the opponent and then punishing them. taking the most basic example of dash dancing right in front of someone, you are first of all masking your intention, as you could do anything in any direction at any time. second, its likely that your opponent will eventually take a guess at what your going to do out of it and act on that, and with good reflexes you can capitalize on that and punish him during the lag. so long as you dont do the same thing out of the DD every time, youll keep the opponent in a position where he has to always guess. thats just one example, and kinda weak at that. no one can really explain to you how to use them, just keep watching the pros games and trying to stay a step ahead of your opponent.

Like deadcow said, there isn't a number of mindganes. They're infinite. Mindgames are what the name says they are.

"Playing games with your opponent's mind." Such as dashing to your opponent, wavedashing backwards right when he grabs or attacks, and dashing immediatly forward to grab or land a SHFFL while he's lagging from the grab/attack and bam. You just used a mindgame. Things like that.

False movements or pretending you're about to do something then converting to another, those are the roots of mindgames IMO.

you missed one thing...
mindgames can also be a reaction tosomething your opponant has done,
or thier style...
and i think with a game like smash, that there arent infinite types of mindgames, just the same ones in different playces...
the game has been out for something like six years... so if all the mindgames havent been performed.... than were all jsut really slack... so yeah

mindgames is just another word for strategy used in this game. Ever hear a smash player go, "wow thats a good strategy" no they say "he has good mindgames." its the same thing, or you can say "playing smart"

i dont really call this a mindgame but you can just shl into grab cuz i never expect that but when i do expect it u can empty sh in to waveland or something like that and i also sometimes get the run forward then wavedash back into whatever but that doesnt work that well.
