Nintendo recently reveals that people will be allowed to start tournaments through MiiVerse. I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on them.
Do you think Nintendo will host official tournaments through MiiVerse?
Will SmashBoards?
Any thoughts on the subject, post them here.
EDIT: Here's my source, for those that want it.

If done right it will be a fantastic feature. I'm sure all sorts of people would be holding tournaments.
I have to admit, one of the biggest things I'm looking forward to in SSB4 is a better online play.

I wish they'd be more clear with how this all works.

What I'm hoping it means is that game developers will be able to add options in their game that, when selected, create a post in the miiverse.
For instance, after creating a stage in the smash bros stage builder, you can select the share to miiverse option where a link to your stage will appear with your comment. These stages can be found in the Smash Bros community in a Sub Community titled User Submitted Levels. In this community you can "yeah" levels, which is the miiverse equivalent of liking something on facebook. Levels with the most yeahs for that day/week/whatever will appear in the popular posts section.

Alternately, you could have a post made that, when clicked, warps users into your game/tourney.

I guess they are adding these features so that developers don't have to create lobbys and menus in their games. Not sure how people will react to this. I guess if ya wanted a random match with strangers ya could set that up in game but if you're just browsing miiverse and ya come across an interesting tourney, ya could hop in.

I've seen a strange community in the japanese miiverse for the recently released game & wario game, where users post phrases they'd like to see appear in the game and what appears to be a table displaying the number of votes that phrase recieved appears next to the post. It's odd because I haven't seen this kind of system anywhere else in the miiverse, which seems to be restricted to posting text and screenshots.

I can only go by what I see, but considering that it's Nintendo, I'm confident that the new MiiVerse features will go along with Smash Bros. amazingly, and if they don't, that's what updates are for.

All I really want is the ability to create communities with a custom ruleset. That way, competitive and casual players can coexist without getting in each other's way.

Completely agree.

Have a different community for each gameplay style you want.
Have a community for item play, where you play with every item on and vote for a map you want to play on.
Have a community for no items, where items are off and you vote for a map you want to play on.
And a completely customizable mode where you can play different modes and choose which items you want. You can have an all Poke ball stamina battle mode if you want.
And have a co-op mode where you can play story modes with a friend online.

There can also be weekly tournaments in each category with pre-registered rules and stage selection which are voted on.

This weeks item tournament is: 2v2, 4 stock, on Corneria
This weeks no item tournament is: 1v1, 5 stock, on Final Destination
and other customizable tournaments arranged on Miiverse

Categories could include:

Items:
1 vs 1
2 vs 2
Free for all

No items:
1 vs 1
2 vs 2
Free for all

Completely Customizable:
1 vs 1
2 vs 2
Free for all

Co op mode:
Story mode
Classic mode
All-star mode
Mini games (challenges, break the targets, homerun, etc.)

The way I interpreted the article, player will be able to host their own tournaments. Hopefully SmashBoards jumps onto that boat.

On the negative side we will most definitely see clans forming on Miiverse itself without much need for external websites. Combined with user-created sub-communities it'll be a 13 year old's dream come true.

well, that's evolution for ya.

to say the least, this could quite possibly be the thing I'm looking the most forward to in the next smash.

Can't wait for MiiVerse to come for the 3DS. Idk if Super Smash Bros. 4 will have one universal MiiVerse community, or a separate one for the 3DS version and the Wii U version.

Oh my god, I got butterflies in my stomach for reading that! ._. I'm gonna be like...all over this in SSB4, LOL. Really, sounds really awesome. I just hope it won't be badly implemented. (Although, I am sure it will work out fine, as I can imagine how it will work.)

From what I read, players will be able to start their own tournaments, so I don't think there's much of a chance of it being implemented badly.

I smell lots of official Smashboards tourneys, and I'm excited. One thing that I think is necessary though is a double-elim option, otherwise it might not see as much use as it could from competitive smashers.

I hope SmashBoards will be an early adopter of MiiVerse tournaments.

That's exactly how I pictured it. I don't think it's too bad, although that's probably the only option for them. (except for one I thought of myself, but might be even worse?)

._. Some reason, I'm excited to own all the random scrubs that join a tourney. (If they are scrubs, which, maybe most will be?) But anyways, I'll definitely be having fun regardless of scrubs, or loss. :smirk:

Also, I wonder if (1) the tournaments will be scheduled, or (2) you join, and you have to wait 'til the other brackets fill up, and then it will start. (I'd like 2 the best. I don't like waiting for a schedules tournament, and usually I can't play unless at night, early morning, or if lucky, middle of the day.)

Yeah 2 sounds likely, it'd essentially be like rooms or lobbies in any other online game

Lol if anything like that happens items will be forced on, they did it with brawl online (for randoms) and I'm sure SSB4 will do it too if Miiverse has anything to do with it considering it's pretty much the social hub and central place of the console. Most likely knowing modern Nintendo it'd be open for anyone who wants to join to get in, while that might not sound a bad idea at first think more clearly on it. You really think Nintendo wants the feelings of random item chucker #1232141 to get hurt? Heck no, skill be damned.

It'd be bad PR if people got scared away by skilled people in other words. Money>our wants. Then again, most likely ssb4 will have a patching system so anything competitive gets nerfed into the ground as it's found.

Uuh, brawl online did not have items forced. Each player gets to turn items on/off, and which items to be on or off. I don't know how it chooses, but I assume at random. (I'm also assuming you mean Basic Brawl or Team Battle)

Also, that would suck. I do hope they don't nerf anything. You're probably also right...some less skilled players might get scared off by skilled players. I don't mind this as long as they don't nerf anything because of it. >_>

Yes, that better sums it up actually.

I believe (don't quote me), but whether or not items are on in random online is influenced by which player picked their stage. Like if player 1 has items on and his pick Final Destination is chosen, items will be on.
