This thread's sole purpose is to gauge interest in this. I don't know exactly where everyone is situated, but there's a decent amount of 64 smashers in the Chicago area, so that's a possible location. AtotheZ mentioned Michigan (I suspect Ann Arbor) as another possible location.

Someone would have to step up and be the TO...

Update 2/18/2013:
It's not set in stone, but it looks like our best bet is at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Komo works and goes to school there, so he can probably get us a venue. He said that he knows a spot where brawl players have tourneys. We want to do this sometime in June. I'll iron out the details over spring break.

Who knows, depending on how many people are coming to this, it could be an Apex 2014 qualifier.

I'd go. Of course. I'm incredibly busy during the school year but I'd clear my sched if it was remotely clearable.

Would it be a small, 64 only tourney or were you thinking of a 64 side event at a larger melee/brawl tourney?

It will be an event in the same way as Nintendude's will be (because this is obviously inspired from his topic). It should be in a venue, and it will be 64 only. I don't know why meowmeow said I would be hosting or it will be at U of Ill. I won't be there during the summer (or ever again most likely because I'm graduating in May).

So right now the run down is that smash 64 won't be happening at SWEET XI because the venue will be smaller due to spring break causing one of the buildings to be closed during that time.

However, it will be at the next one which is scheduled for March 30th. I'll see if I can talk to the TO for getting it on March 2nd and March 30th, so we shall see.

Also, M2K is semi confirmed to go to the March 30th one, so that would be the ideal date for now for everyone to get together and lay the beat down.

I would definitely play and Ive a couple buddies who I'm sure would want to as well. Also, are there any smashers around the Fort Wayne, Indiana area? Itd be nice to play with some better people on console.

I'm going to have to start looking for venues when I have spring break. I'll talk to knitephox and komo to see what they know.

My roommate and I were considering hosting a little fest at our apt. Weve a decent sized living room with a 51" tv. him and i both have a couple more flat screens as well. Would anyone be interested in playing in Fort Wayne, Indiana? Would there be enough interest for my roommate and I to take it seriously? We live downtown next to a plethora of restaurants and fast food chains. There are also many hotels for people to stay at. We wouldn't be opposed to a few staying if it were pre arranged.

I'm definitely going to SWEET XI on the 2nd but I'm from Kalamazoo and would be so down for a 64 tourney.

As a sidenote, anyone else from southwest MI that would wanna play 64 sometime?

UPDATE: I spoke with the Campus Programs manager and it is NOT possible over the summer. This tournament would have to be held before graduation. If we want it for free, the most of the people from the tournament have to be attending UIC. IT CAN STILL happen if it's done before school ends and if we pay for it. Han if you want me to ask how much I can try to find out, if not then we'll just have to find someplace else.

Komo told me, IIRC, that we couldn't do it over the summer at UIC. So, I'll look for a place in Chicago during my spring break.
