This is just a simple thought but I think it's possible that the Midgar stage may be competitively viable if items are off. The summon orb seems to be the only thing that causes hazards and if items are off it may be treated as an item. It's a slim chance but if true it could mean we're getting another competitively viable stage.

Even if the summons are an items-on only type of thing, I don't think everyone wants ANOTHER Battlefield added to their list of stages. Those who don't like the layout already have to deal with two of them.

What gave you the impression that an item dictates the hazards on midgar.
The stage's literal gimmick is destroying itself with FF summons and bosses.

You get the summons through a red orb thing that you touch to pick up.

You just need to look at Cloud's trailer with more attention and you'll see the orb float into the stage and every time a summon is attacking, Cloud has a red aura around him except when it's Ifrit, then it's Toon Link.

The summons do not come out at random, though I dunno if which one you get to use is up to the RNG or not.

Whether the red orb is counted as an item though, that's up in the air, I'm going to assume it's not, just like how the bumper in Peach's Castle isn't.

Nice assumption that I didn't pay attention to the trailer. I mean the first thing we literally see during the stage showcase is the orb.
I never implied the summons come out of nowhere. It's simply not an item in a traditional sense. A number of hazards in this game grant aura to characters or use markers to signify they're influenced by them. Find Mii 2's Dark Emperor does this as well, and yet you don't assume he's an item, correct?

Like I said I don't think the orb is an item myself, it's probably a stage element that can't be taken out no matter what the item toggle says, like the bumper in Peach's Castle.

Either way the orb is basically a Smash Ball so the stage is banned right away.

The wording in your post made me unsure if you had noticed the orb gimmick or not so I just had to take a guess and seems like I was wrong lol.

I was only thinking that it could be a possibility because the orb functions similarly to smash ball in the faction that it randomly appears and floats around. It seems that there is a respite where the orb is not flying around making the stage seemingly legal for that time. If the orb is toggle-able then we could end up with another competitive stage. If it does become a new battlefield then I would most certainly think it would be the most popular one if the boundaries are the same as the normal battlefield.

I'd normally redirect this to the Stage Legality Discussion thread.
But the stage is not even available yet so maybe there's nothing to discuss other than philosophy and that stuff.
If you want to give it a shot anyway, please do it there.
