It'd be nice if you posted these in all the threads so people dont have to go looking. It'd also kinda be nice to post them since there are already tournies set up this saturday, and no mention of rules what so ever.

So to go further

single/double elimination?
stage rules?

Something more specific than "Houston" would be nice for a location since there's supposed to be a tournament there this weekend apparently.

I've been to Houston, it's big.

And the registration thing is very weird... are there tournaments in Austin, Houston, Atlanta, and OK City on June 9th? Because it only lets me sign up for that date... If so does that mean there will also be tournaments in all of those locations on June 16th, 23rd, and 30th?

If there are tournaments in 4 places this weekend (3 of them in this region) then specific locations for all of them are needed, some more detailed rulesets would be nice as well.

I found a "local dates" link that's actually even more confusing, as it shows tournaments in Austin on the 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th complete with locations, but then says nothing about Houston, OKC or Atlanta...

Care to shed some light on any of this?

Hmm, I have work on this day and would really like to go, but it sounds like there's very limited information on this event. Does anybody know what a pop-up event is? I'm guessing a mini tourney of some sort, which means there are a ton of them.

Here's a list copied from the site. If you want to check from the main site, select Houston (or any other city near you) and click on local dates. Directly linking to the page won't work...for example, here's Houston's listings.

Pop-Up Event June 06 5 - 8p McDonald's 7437 Spencer Hwy. Pasadena TX 77505
Pop-Up Event June 07 11 - 2p McDonald's 5030 Maxey Rd. Houston TX 77013
Pop-Up Event June 07 5 - 8p Houston Dynamo 3875 Holman St. Houston TX 77204
Pop-Up Event June 08 11 - 2p McDonald's 3110 FM 1960 W. Humble TX 77338
Pop-Up Event June 08 5 - 8p McDonald's 5909 FM 2920 Spring TX 77388
TOURNAMENT June 09 6 - 12a McDonald's 4406 Kingwood Dr. Kingwood TX 77339

Pop-Up Event June 13 5 - 8p McDonald's 1845 Fry Rd. Katy TX 77449
Pop-Up Event June 14 11 - 2p McDonald's 17250 FM 249 Houston TX 77064
Pop-Up Event June 14 5 - 8p McDonald's 6330 N. Eldridge Pkwy. Houston TX 77041
Pop-Up Event June 15 11 - 2p McDonald's 8303 Broadway Pearland TX 77581
Pop-Up Event June 15 5 - 8p Pearland Summer Concrt Se 2150 Country Place Pkwy Pearland TX
TOURNAMENT June 16 6 - 12a McDonald's 14099 Northwest Fwy. Houston TX77040

Pop-Up Event June 20 5 - 8p McDonald's 8520 Bissonnet Houston TX 77074
Pop-Up Event June 21 11 - 2p McDonald's 6000 Gulf Fwy Houston TX 77023
Pop-Up Event June 21 5 - 8p Houston Dynamo 3875 Holman St. Houston TX 77204
Pop-Up Event June 22 11 - 2p McDonald's 6129 Hwy 6 S. Missouri City TX 77459
Pop-Up Event June 22 5 - 8p Missouri City Concert Ser 1522 Texas Pkwy Missouri City TX 77489
TOURNAMENT June 23 6 - 12a McDonald's 4625 Fairmont Pkwy Pasadena TX 77504

Pop-Up Event June 27 5 - 8p McDonald's 10415 Bissonnet Houston TX 77099
Pop-Up Event June 28 11 - 2p McDonald's 21330 Interstate 45 N. Spring TX 77373
Pop-Up Event June 28 5 - 8p McDonald's 2424 FM 1960 W. Houston TX 77090
Pop-Up Event June 29 11 - 2p McDonald's 10760 Eastex Fwy Housotn TX 77093
Pop-Up Event June 29 5 - 8p Houston Astros Minute Maid Park Houston TX
TOURNAMENT June 30 6 - 12a McDonald's 5010 Hwy. 90A Sugarland TX 77478

So, this weekend's tournament would be in Kingwood. A lot of the locations are at a McDonald's, for obvious reasons. Holy crud, a tournament in Sugar Land?! That's funny...

I'm guessing someone COULD take first in all four tourneys of each individual city area and get around $300 plus $100 in McDonalds gift cards and the other stuff, unless they're limiting it.

Well, I just went to one of the pop-up events, and it turns out that they just randomly select one of the games to be displayed at each location for free-play. When I went, they didn't have any smash, but they were giving away what appeared to be free XBox Live cards. Anyways, it isn't really worth your time to go to a pop-up event unless you live close to the location and have nothing better to do.

One thing that caught my eye was that they were using a HDTV. While this doesn't mean for sure that the TVs at the tourney will be HD, it is possible that they will be and this will mean lag.

Okay, let me summarize for my fellow Houstonians who are confused...READ THIS.

-Here are the dates for the Houston tournaments. There will be one every weekend this month and are spread out all over the Houston area, so you shouldn't have a problem getting to one. Keep in mind that since this is a free event, there could be a good number of people there who don't know how to play seriously. Use mapquest/yahoo for directions.

June 09: McDonald's @ 4406 Kingwood Dr. Kingwood TX 77339
June 16: McDonald's @ 14099 Northwest Fwy. Houston TX77040
June 23: McDonald's @ 4625 Fairmont Pkwy Pasadena TX 77504
June 30: McDonald's @ 5010 Hwy. 90A Sugarland TX 77478

-Rules have been posted on the first page of this thread, but it's really just MLG rules with a modified time limit of six minutes and Rainbow Cruise on random. There is no mention of Wobbling being banned, so if you use it, people will be angry. But who cares, you get a free trip to the Dallas championship. ;)

-SINGLE ELIMINATION. IF YOU LOSE A SET, YOU'RE OUT. You can find this rule under the "Terms & Conditions" link at the bottom of the main page. In fact everyone should read it. It says that the rules CAN be modified if deemed necessary, but I doubt that'll happen...

-I'm guessing set-ups are provided, but from I've experienced at the "pop-up event," they could be using HDTVs and that means lag. Also, bring your own controller because they should allow you to use it instead of their brand-new ones. BRING YOUR OWN MEMORY CARD. The site states that if you want to use the secret characters, that you must bring your own memory card. Whether this is true or not (since you need a memory card for some of the random stages anyway...), bring one regardless. You can find this info under "Game Settings" on the main page...

-Apparently, you can only win one tournament for each game series, so that other people can have a shot at first prize. Second prize is only a lousy shirt, so aim for first. You have four chances, unless you're willing to travel... :)

-REGISTER NOW if you haven't already. There will be on-site registration if they have an spots open or there are no-shows. It isn't stated what the limit is, but I would guess relatively LOW since they have other tournaments going on and have to finish within 6 hours. Also, arrive within 15 minutes of the start or you could be kicked out and be replaced.

I guess I'll read the stuff over again and post anything else that is important later...it's all there on the site if you look for the info.

Does anybody know who went? I just saw some live feed at the website and didn't recognize who was playing. I'm guessing no one brought a memory card, because the character select had no secret characters. -_-
