For those of you who dont know, meteos was a nintendo ds puzzle game.
Gameplay: line up three to five same colored blocks horizontally or vertically with the stylus, the blocks will then be sent off the touch screen and to the opponent's planet. yes, planet. You can only move the blocks up and down. Each planet had different music and different gravity which changed how the blocks were launched. You fused the blocks you sent upward to purchase more planets, items for multiplayer, and music.
Story: an evil planet, called meteo, releases a substance called meteos, phantasmagoric blocks that are drawn from the surface and sent into space towards other planets. many were destroyed until, by chance, three meteos of the same color touched, turning them black and burned, sending other blocks above them off the planet. upon this discovery, many alien races devised strategies to get the blocks off of the planet, utilizing gravity and other methods. one alien race made the metamo ark, a starship made out of meteos ore. it could copy the attributes of enemy planets and send the ore back at them. the ship quested towards meteo to destroy its threat once and for all.
Why references in brawl, you ask? because of the fact a certain man named masashiro sakurai was the game director for meteos. yes, this game was his brainchild.
possible means of references:
stickers: most likely reference. possible pictures of the two dimensional aliens, their planets, and gameplay.
trophies: less likely, showing the aliens like mr. game and watch was shown, 2-d. planets in 3-d.
assist trophy: not very possible, meteos blocks dropping from the sky to squash all in the path, aliens crawling around having fun.
character: least likely, near impossible except as the joke character like pichu or the wtf? character like mr. game and watch, a character not very well known and unexpected for a fighting game.
stage: not very likely, it could be planet geolyte, the first planet anyone uses. normal earth gravity, clouds, sky, and water. the natives could be in the back ground, and meteos could come crashing down, but you could break the blocks or send them flying.
this is how i see the chances of the game meteo being referenced in brawl. the first one, not the hideous sequel, Disney Magic, which changed how the game was played.
