What? MGS5 was announced? When did this happen?

EDIT: The trailer lifts a lot from Ground Zeroes. Was that renamed MGS5?

At GCD '13 today, Kojima had a presentation, and it was this. Yes! (Going to go put the trailer in the OP now...)

Edit: It's up, and so fancy-looking.

I love MGS and this game is no exception, I already love him. Revengeance was a bit disappointing aven if not bad, but it's Kojima working here. AWESOMENESS STRAIGHT AHEAD.

Yep, I knew Revengeance was just an experiment, and now we're back to MGS tradition. Yeah! I can't help but notice it seems to be Big Boss in the trailer, which means we're *probably* going to be going back in time a bit. Which I don't mind, because MGS 3 is one of my favorite games.

I've played and finished MGS1-3, but I never got around to 4. I heard that game's ending was pretty final. Is this a prequel or what?

It seems like it probably is, given it seems to star Big Boss, rather than Snake, and Big Boss was the protagonist in 3. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Definitely play 4 though, it was well worth my money!

I borrowed it from a friend a while back and didn't get that far into it. I really didn't care for the changes made to the game play which is why I never finished it.

But it's good to see Naked Snake back. Snake Eater is my favorite game in the series.

It IS Big Boss. They are talking about Paz in the "Phantom Pain" trailer at the very beginning, and Paz is from Peace Walker., in the 70's.

Also given Old Snake's... age in MGS4 and the already very detailled chronology, there is no way Solid Snake could star again. Well, knowing Kojima there MUST be a way, but it's Kojima.

It's Kojima. His stories make no sense anyway so if he wants to say that Snake is the protagonist again because Darkseid lost to Super Buu in an arm-wrestling match then let it be so.

It looks like Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain have been mashed up together.

Also, it definitely seems like it takes place after Peace Walker. They reference Paz, and Chico was in the Ground Zeroes trailer as well.

Well, either way, this looks pretty good from a trailer standpoint. It also sort of cemented me getting a PS4. I already had no interest in whatever the next-gen Xbox is, but this just makes it all the more obvious which system to get. (Unless of course, it's on both, and then this point is moot, but...let's not go there.)

I haven't played any of the spin-offs, only the main series games. If Kojima is continuing the story from Peace Walker I am going to be so lost.

I did some poking around and right now it's planned to be a PS360 release.

Sorry if this is a double post.

Kojima writing non-sense? Complex, what-the-f*** stories sure but it's pretty neat overall.

Also I thought it was going to be on PS3 and 360?

Hmm...I haven't played Peace Walker either. I should get on that, I'd rather not be just as lost.

And either way, I'm still getting a PS4, I despise Microsoft for innumerable reasons.

Buy the MGS HD Collection, there's Substance, Subsistance and Peace Walker and it's PS360.

The man needs an editor, though. That's for sure.

It is.

The only spin-off I ever played was Metal Gear Acid, which I don't even think is cannon.

I got a PS3 instead of a 360 because
A) I don't play online very often and XBL is the 360's biggest draw.
B) Outside of Halo the console has no exclusives that I care for (or much in the way of exclusives at all)
and C) I didn't want to have to buy a new 360 every other week.

Metal Gear Acid isn't canon at all. Other spinoff games are Metal Gear Online (Now defunct), Ghost Babel and Snake's Revenge.

See, I already bought the PS2 collection back in the day with everything but Peace Walker. I guess I'll look into that, or just find a PSP emulator.

Isn't Rising canon? I thought it was the start of a "new" franchise, starring Cyborg Raiden.

Haven't played a single one of the portables, but that actually sounds...interesting. At least the part about having Kojima on your squad.

Pretty excited for this coming out. Only big MGS game I haven't played is Rising, but that's because I just don't have the funds right now.

I thought Portable Ops was pretty bad too. Controls were awful and the story wasn't too interesting. Recruiting people was a hassle compared to Peace Walker. Maybe the game would be easier to replay on my Vita, but I just don't feel like buying it again.

Ac!d games I've never picked up though.

Acid is a pretty interesting game. It basically combines TBS with TCG, and it's genuinely a pretty unique game. It's got a few hiccups, but it's a pretty good experiment and is worth a shot IMO.

Too bad David Hatyer is no longer going to voice snake in this one. Also, I am so excited for fox engine!

This could be a complicated scheme. After all Kojima made Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes look like a single game, making us think we bested him, when it was two separate games. Also Snake did speak in the Ground Zeroes gameplay no? It would be a quick way to confirm or infirm Hayter's presence.

Take that as you will, but as you said given Kojima's history of ****ing with his fans you never know.

It'd be a pretty odd ruse since it's only affecting the US fans. Japan didn't change actors for Snake.

Isn't Metal Gear more popular the US and Europe than in Japan?

I don't know, maybe he's just doing this because he likes trolling his western fan base.

No, I highly doubt Hayter will be Snake, considering the fact that he has yet to be asked to play the role.

David Hayter comments on not voicing Snake in MGSV: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/04...sence?utm_campaign=twposts&utm_source=twitter

To give an abridged version of the article, Hayter says that when he found out about MGSV he was contacted by Konami and was told that he wasn't needed anymore, and that was that. No explanation beyond that.

He takes the whole thing in stride but says that voicing Snake is one of his favorite things and he loves the character and will miss voicing him very much.

Ouch! That's just not cool. Hayter's the man though, glad to see he's taking it so well. He will be missed. :(
