Ok, so I just don't understand this section of the boards anymore. There seems to be this mutual understanding that melee's competitive scene is going to have some impact on brawl. Why?

because people want sakurai to ''balance the tiers''

because people want sakurai to make ''every move serve a purpose in competitive play''

Its a pipe dream. This game is made, first and foremost, to please a large audience. The competitive community will then make a set of rules for tournaments that involve $$$ money that people will either accept or reject.

Smash, to the developers standards, isnt about 1v1.

Bowser beats fox?!!?!?!?! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT!??!

6 million dollars says fox is higher tier than bowser in competitive brawl.

honnestly, I just dont get it, why are these threads still popping up? Im just so utterly confused.

The competitive rules from melee dont apply to you unless you register for a tournament. No one from this forum is telling you to play on certain stages or with no items.

Yet so many people act like the competitive style of melee is FORCED on them by this invisible smash nazis that tell you what to do.

You can play smash any ****ing way you want to. If someone tells you otherwise, they're wrong. If you go to a tournament, you follow the tournament rules. If you dont like tournament rules, make your own tournament.

Hopefully, this discussion will spark some sense into whiny people that I see everyday on this section of the forum.

now go.

Because there are a myriad of complaints like this every time I check up on this board. I swear, when I started coming here again I had around 200 posts. Most of those 300 posts came from arguing with morons on this board about the same thing this guy is talking about.

Playing competitively is just stupid.
AH HAH! Another one, GOTTA LOVE 'EM. Shut the **** up, seriously. You're stupid. People have a lot of fun and get a lot of money playing this game competitively. The only stupid thing here is your baseless comment.

No it isn't. Please don't troll my thread. I may be drunk and kind of angry but i still do want to discuss this utter and complete ignorance. Dylan_Tnga my friend has been fighting it since february and I as an on and off poster can not understand why people still think these illogical things, or why they complain about tournament rules when chances are they have never attended a tournament in their life.

^^The way I see it, so far Brawl it becoming more appealing to 10 year olds and soccer moms. Not me!

I just wanna say this, if Brawl is a complete and utter disappointment with lack of cool characters and online play, then I'm just going to sell my Wii and Brawl on Ebay and continue to play in Melee tournaments and such. That's all.

I support this thread, people really need to understand what the topic creator is saying... i cant believe these kind of discussions still spark around in this section.

Everything he said was right, people complain so much about the competitive rules.... yet no1 forces them to play by those rules... so WHY? You dont see me go to the hardcore "smash with items" community (oh right... theres none -_-) and complain about having to use items right? BECAUSE NO1 FORCES ME TO USE ITEMS, JUST AS NO1 FORCES U PEOPLE TO PLAY COMPETITIVE RULES...

So just SHUT UP AND PLAY THE GAME HOWEVER THE HELL YOU WANT TO.

I agree. Brawl will most likely be like Melee, in the aspect that it will be able to satiate competitive players and casual players. Sakurai is not going to make the game for one group of people. The more ways people can play Smash, the more money.

Christ, thank god you understand! Dylan has tried to make this same point in the past but all that happens is this

LOLOL LOOK U USED 2 BE A JERK 7 MONTHS AGO! LOL LETS CRUCIFY U.

Me and Dylan_Tnga are real life best friends, we share the exact same views on brawl.

So im glad my topic is getting through, because Dylan cant even try anymore, due to some reputation he got 7 months ago that people for some reason cant get over, since their obsessive ****ing losers.

Let the revolution begin!!!!!! Say it with me

Oh, but it is. If he didn't come in saying it was stupid, I could have cut him some slack. But he couldn't have just pondered about it. No, that would make too much sense. Instead he made a completely false statement.

Note that I did laugh enough for me to almost wake my neighborhood up when you cursed Mr. Presidente out, but that's beside the point!

*chuckle* I know I know, he made a mistake, but mind you it's like what 3:00 A.M. or something right now. I'm sure by tomorrow, he'll say "Was I smokin meth when I blatenly said out loud that Smash Tournament play was stupid?" More likely than not he is, but there's no reason to take the guy to the cleaners. Take a deep breath, relax, and calm down. Remember your blood pressure.:)

whiners will be whiners, no stopping it. the fact of the matter is that some moves will always be more exploitable than others, and thus will dominate competitive play.

the main thing i love is how people are always like "man up and play with items." i have played someone like that, and i still beat his ***. why? because i can still edge/ceiling/walltech and he cant, i can still l-cancel and he cant, i can still space better than he could ever imagine and i live longer because my DI is a million times better than his.

i think that if indeed there is an option where we dont have randomly exploding cartons in brawl, you'll see people running side item tourneys. but i think melee's legacy of no items, banned stages, and advanced slobs will probably still dominate the competitive brawl scene.

Yup. See, you have common sense. You lucky, lucky individual. I dont see how half of the posters on the brawl section tie their shoes in the morning with the lack of common sense that they have

(me imitating a scrub)

Oh my ****in god you jerks, forcing us to play with no items, you guys should man up and play with items in tourneys that I probably wont attend

I DONT GO TO TOURNEYS BUT THEY AFFECT ME SO MUCH!! WHINNNNNNE! BAWWW!!! CHEEAp!!111 I KULD BEET KEN IF ONLY IT WAS WITH BOB OMBS SET ON VERY HIGH!

YES!!!

Im a competitive player, and ive played some n00bs with items on before, and I own em.

Why? Because I dont let them GET the items, sheesh. People who practice the game will always beat casuaal players no matter what.

I think many of you some skewed consensus on the other party's viewpoint may be. I've watched players derogatorily called "scrubs" because they had presented a difference in opinion. Dylan is a perfect example of someone doing just this. Dylan represents a group of competitive players who have no interest in convincing casual players to join their idea of gaming and only causes others to separate. In fact I believe a large majority of casual players are frustrated is due to the negative connotation competitive players bring with them. They tend to divide the community of Smash as a whole more than they help it. I do also want to remind you that even this site was built around the casual community, not the hardcore. Gideon and many of the vets that once frequented these boards were not hardcore like some others are on here. Simply put, you're not the only one's here with opinions on how the game "should be played".I think what bothers the casual players is the competitive scene's ability to outcast themselves instead of making themselves out to be seen for some of the brilliant insight that some of them have brought to the game.

Demon_machinE, you state that too many "scrubs" are whining, but you are forgetting they represent part of the Smash community. Items and certain stages are thought about differently than you think of them and because of this, they are labeled by you as "scrubs" because they do not conform to your opinion and that is just utterly asinine. Now don't get me wrong, I see both sides pulling the same thing. Everyone shares their ideas, get insulted, insults back, and separates into their own little communities. Sad thing is these communities have too much common ground to be bitching and moaning so much. Instead of making topics which are highly incoherent, hard to read and purely insulting in nature, why not continue to try to convince the other side? The only downside is you don't gain any new opponents, the plus side means you help someone join a larger community and thus by doing so giving a larger selection of opponents to practice on.

I whole-heartedly agree bro. Yeah, if only Smash Whiners would keep these ancient words of wisdom in mind before they step into and stay in the tournament world....

If I could lower myself to your level and argue with you for one minute?

You have no idea what the word scrub Means, and the competitive community has no influence on your actions, or what rules you decide to play the game with.

You are a scrub because you moan and whine about things instead of just learning them. No ones going to call you a scrub for not knowning the techniques, not using them, or playing with items.

The only thing that matters in this game is enjoyment. Do whatever it takes to have fun because if not you're gonna get tired and you'll lose intrest.

If you don't want to play the game like the competitive players, then just ****ing don't. If you want to post here, don't try to start an argument over the word scrub, if it wasnt directed at you, and you have no inkling to what you're talking about.
Dylan Tnga doesnt represent anything. He just wants people to have fun any possible way they can with smashbrothers because he loves the game and he wants others to enjoy it aswell

7 months ago dylan_tnga called every casual player a scrub. He regrets it. 7 ****ing months ago

The act of having a different method of play does not imply that one is a scrub, nor would I ever call a casual player or someone with their own rules a scrub.

You, like many others, do not understand the definition of the word scrub, and you also have no evidence to back that I have ever called a non scrub a scrub. Prove it, or dont post lies.

Oh god I cant belive you misinterpreted me to such a high degree. You're making a statement that implies I think all casual players are scrubs, which is purely false.

If anything, this thread was PRO casual, and ANTI tournament players, because I am annoyed at seeing tournament noobs thinking that brawl should be balanced for competitive play. Thats it. You just cant read.

Oh, but I do understand what it means, but I believe you are missing the point. It is constantly used in an insulting manner than in a manner which is consistent with its definitions. Furthermore, I see no reason for me to show you when you have or have not called a 'non-scrub' a scrub as I clearly stated anyone who plays differently than the way you play, which, by your own admission, is competitive, would mean you call casual players "scrubs". These are, by definition, people who play differently than you, mind you, I'm just using them as the most basic of examples. You guys are not the only presence in the Smash community and it is merely pointless to oust casual players by insulting them. Am I wrong in saying that it is not possible to win people over about your way of playing?

On a separate note, please, for the love of Smash, why are you clinging so tightly to your online buddy instead of just sticking up for what you think. I'm pretty sure if Dylan wants to defend himself in a coherent manner he can.

i have said many, many times that people should play the game the way they enjoy it. and i have definitely met several casual players, and i enjoy their company and playing along with them.

the problem is that there are several abrasive casual players who act as if standard tournament rules have been forcibly imposed on them. this is not the case.
they also act as if our decision to play without items makes us less skilled at the game than them. this is not the case.
finally, they act as if the countless hours we have spent learning about how this game works, frame-by-frame, rules of DI, rules of hitboxes, etc is irrelevant. this is not the case.

So then scrubs are people who don't play Smash? That's kind of weird, then why do they even bother coming here, unless of course they are part of some other community Smash sites cater to. Are you also inferring that since scrubs pick apart details of tournament play that they aren't picking the game apart at an objective level or are you just going to continue with the "I hate scrubs" rant" that you and Dylan are famous for?

He's banned, because he dared use the word scrub in a sentence. See ''l cancelling not needed in brawl'' thread for details.

MookieRah even defended him and was appaled to see him banned, so it wasnt dylans fault he got banned, it was Mic_128s personal grudge against him, mark my words.

He cant defend himself, so Im defending him till he can. Too many people take shots at this guy and its not right. Ill stick up for ANY of my friends, not just Dylan.

Oh, but I do understand what it means
Really?
I see no reason for me to show you when you have or have not called a 'non-scrub' a scrub as I clearly stated anyone who plays differently than the way you play, which, by your own admission, is competitive, would mean you call casual players "scrubs". [/quote]

Scrubs are people who whine and complain about tournament rules. Not people who CHOOSE to play in a different manner than the popular tournament rules

Again, I implore you to point out any post made by Dylan that wasnt 7 months ago (we all know he was a jerk in his first few weeks)

You guys are not the only presence in the Smash community and it is merely pointless to oust casual players by insulting them. Am I wrong in saying that it is not possible to win people over about your way of playing?
But thats just it, competitive players arent ousting casual players, save a few pyschos. The only enemies competitive players have are scrubs, who are casual players who decide despite never having gone to a tournament that it would be a good idea to whine endlessly about melee's competitive rules on this website.

Furthermore, competitive players annoy me more than casuaals on the brawl section at this point.

Id rather someone tell me to play with items in melee, than read one more post about balancing brawl for competitive play at this point.

Its just so stupid... ''balancing'' smash. ARGH!

What are you even arguging now? You think people who whine about every 2nd move being cheap are part of the community?

Thats like saying the person at the bar who throws up all over the floor and passes out is part of the night life.

he's not. Because he passed out and puked all over everything

Scrubs aren't part of the smash community for the same reason, they puke on everything with their endless whining, complaining about tournament rules instead of making their own

and MOST frustrating of all :

Talking about tournament rules as if they are FORCED upon them by the rest of the community, which they are not. Not even ****ing close.

Are you also inferring that since scrubs pick apart details of tournament play that they aren't picking the game apart at an objective level
Yes. Because by definition, a scrub is only someone with mental handicaps such as considering certain moves/tactics ''cheap'' keeping them from ever truly COMPETITING in the game of choice.

What they think about the game is entirely up to them, they only cross the line into scrubdom when they complain about tournaments, desppite never going to them, or having the skill to compete in one even if every stage was on and all items were on on very high.

you're right, this is definitely the approach that we should be taking towards them. however, in my personal experience several of these players are either 1) not interested in our style of play - this is fine, its not for everyone or 2) incorrigible. this may have to do with my relatively short supply of patience. then again, i dont consider myself an ideal ambassador to the casual scene.

Because there are a myriad of complaints like this every time I check up on this board. I swear, when I started coming here again I had around 200 posts. Most of those 300 posts came from arguing with morons on this board about the same thing this guy is talking about.

Meh, no point reacting. Im wasted and I can tell a troll comment from a serious one.
What? I was calling the other person stupid, not you. >_> How drunk are you?

Ha ha pretty drunk. Even so you are right about the numerous top-tier posts. Who cares, I think everyone's tired of hearing it. Anyways, you can just go to the smash dojo and read that Brawl will be more balanced according to Nintendo. Heavy slow players aren't going to get knocked around by the countless fox and falco players out there, so do your homework before posting. And what does it matter if every move serves a purpose. Who cares, just play the game if you like it, and don't if you don't.

Scrubs will never ****ing change. You can't convince someone through writing on the internet to change their views on video gaming.

Once a scrub, always a scrub. The only hope for salvation lies in the scrubs own mind, not in the efforts of others.

Until a scrub truly decides to become a decent human being, he will remain a scrub, and call everything from grabbing to neutral grabs cheap and have his own ficticious rules in his head that keep him from ever truly playing a two or more player game.

Really?

Scrubs are people who whine and complain about tournament rules. Not people who CHOOSE to play in a different manner than the popular tournament rules

Again, I implore you to point out any post made by Dylan that wasnt 7 months ago (we all know he was a jerk in his first few weeks)
Even if it was seven months ago, do you not think that reputation would not last him? He brought it on himself. Besides, the guy is resourceful he knows how to get back on here.

Are you sure you aren't confusing whining endlessly with debated, objective, opinions on a Smash site which has thousands of members, whom you'd never know if they were really in a tournament or not? I've been to several tournaments, none of the major ones because of real life things that got in the way, but enough to say I could criticize some of the aspects of tournament setup, but of course you'd never know that, but if I shared with you my thoughts on some tournament regulations I know you and many other competitive players would label me a scrub immediately without a second thought.

With that attitude, you're right, they won't, but don't you owe it to yourself to at least make some effort in enhancing the community?

Oh I think I'm going to be sick......I've never in all my life have I heard the term "scrub" used in so many sentences.

On a serious note though, hey c'mon guys. I don't even know why we're still havin this arguement. Not to be a third wheel or anything like that, but cease and desist.

Roboto, you have your views on the Smash tournament world, and the same thing goes for you Machine. Come to a mutual agreement and be done with it all ready.

And now......I need an Excedrin.....

Anyways, you can just go to the smash dojo and read that Brawl will be more balanced according to Nintendo. Heavy slow players aren't going to get knocked around by the countless fox and falco players out there, so do your homework before posting
Yes, but the way people post its as if they want this to be the tier list

Top tier

Everyone

Every other tier

no one.
---------------------------------

When they dont even understand tier rankings. They think its a character ranking which its not. In fact, if you dont play at the highest level of competitive play, then melees ''tier list'' doesn't even apply to you.

It looks like sakurai's making it so that bowser can have a better chance vs fox and falco, because he realizes that speed outweighs slow and powerful, so hes trying to make that a little better

this does NOT mean that sakurai is ''balancing'' the characters with a specific tier list based on a 1v1 setting in mind. If you think that, you should ****ing die.

With that attitude, you're right, they won't, but don't you owe it to yourself to at least make some effort in enhancing the community?
No, its not up to me to change their minds. And I wont call someone a scrub unless they truly exhibit the traits of a scrub.

MookieRah, probably the most intelligent poster on the brawl section, has used the word scrub where it was needed, exactly how dylan and I use it. When someone is being a scrub.

Even if it was seven months ago, do you not think that reputation would not last him? He brought it on himself. Besides, the guy is resourceful he knows how to get back on here.
Um considering most threads are forgotten about in 2 weeks time, no, Dylan did not think his first post on a message board would follow him for 7 months. To assume that, would make him one of the most arrogant people in the world. Which he isnt, hes baffled and slightly confused as to how much attention was paid to a few posts he made over half a year ago, and is still being brought up today.

but if I shared with you my thoughts on some tournament regulations I know you and many other competitive players would label me a scrub immediately without a second thought.
Au contraire mon ami.

You have quite the intelligent aura about you. If you were to illicit your complaints in a non confrontational way then only the lowest of vermin would call you a scrub, and they would be wrong.

There is nothing wrong with having an issue with tournament play, or even suggesting changes

there is EVERYTHING wrong with FREAKING THE **** OUT at competitive players, calling them ''tourney***s'' and being confrontational about tournament rules in general.

Im sure, despite any complaints you might have, you do not consider the tournament scene to FORCE you with a gun to your face to play by their rules. Actual scrubs do seem to think this.

Ive seen posts about how the competitive smashers ''ruin'' smash for some people. and I am completly baffled, since these people also attest to never having gone to a tournament.

Once again, that's true, but I would assume if you were part of a community you would make some effort to enhance your community by persuading those who think on a 'scrub' level. So do you understand, I'm not trying to be adversarial with you, I just don't believe posting topics in the manner that you did just now is the best way to get your point across and it only seeks annoy people and close their mind to your opinions.

See, this is what I wanted to bring up, you may not be seeing how it might ruin Smash for them and thus your frustration when you have to deal with them. I know from personal experience that competitive Smash early off were very elitist and some extent some still are. For a community which was born from casual, which as you know will have 'scrubs' in it, this idea is very jarring. They feel like you're telling them the way they've been playing is ******** or simple minded. I don't know anyone that enjoys being called a moron or less than a human being who needs to be shot. These may be players that feel attacked and thus retreat to 'their rules' instead of opening up their minds to other opinions simply because a competitive player got too high up on his horse. I bet if more competitive players were patient and forthcoming toward these people, competitive players may kill two birds with one stone, gain new competitive players and lose "whiny scrubs".

Whoa, come now, it's not as if you came out of your mother's womb knowing all there is to know about Melee. You were a scrub once too, and so was I; however, if this so called "scrub" refuses help from good ol Smash Pros like us, then he truly is too far gone from saving. At least you knew that you tried to lend a helping hand.

It's too early in the morning to be thinking that deep.

Actually, me and Dylan_Tnga refused to sign up on this forum until we had mastered the advanced techniques of melee, and had video footage to prove it.

We both have been reading this forum for years, and truly respect it. We never whilst playing smash complained about cheap moves, but we certainly did play with our own rules

Example :

Me and Tnga, once so fed up with wavedashing and melee and everything about melee, quit melee for a few months and played ssb64

we were so frustrated with melee that we played ssb64 by these rules :

No edgehogging, items on except hammer / recovery / star, and no using items, only throwing.

and we had a blast! But we never EVER EVER EVER EVER dreamed of signing up on smashboards and saying our made up rules were the ''right way'' to play, or complained about tournament rules, since we had the common sense to realize this

''hey, we dont go to tournaments. They dont affect us. We can play any way we want to''

Which is not the case with most of the brawl section.

Casual players are not scrubs. I think anyone who confuses a casual with a scrub, should be banned.

Scrubs are a specific breed of human being that should never exist in the first place. A scrub will probably beat his children and cheat his co-workerrs. It takes a lot of evil in ones heart to be a true scrub, and an exceptional ammount of ignorance.

I have seen many scrubs on the brawl boards, but I can still say with confidence that 98 percent of the brawl boards are not scrubs.

First impressions are everything, don't ya know?
Yeah but Dylan is wildly popular for no reason at all. Kind of a random thing, but many of the things people force upon him as ''stuff he believes in'' are entirely false.

Trust me, I know the kid in RL. Green Greens is his favorite stage, he's stopped wavedashing so much and started walking more (pwning me more too) and the only reason we dotn play with items in SSBM is because the beam sword is too small.

Thing is no one would ever ask dylan, so Im just saying this stuff out loud cuz im bored.

Final destination, Items off, wavedashing only.

It doesn't even make sense. I cant believe people think those are the rules of competitive play.

Final D is a good stage but mehhhhh.

*gasp* You......too? *shocked* Same here bro! I really didn't like it at first on how Melee played so differently from Smash 64 if you know what I'm getting at. (combo schematics, toning down of all 64 originals, etc etc.)

I too did not sign up for Smash Boards until I've completely mastered the game, but bare this in mind bro, of all the Smash beginners, in all the world don't have this mindset.

Wow man! We had a lot of the same ideas

*sigh*

Ive been reading these forums for like 4-5 years, and I signed up a year ago along with dylan. When we thought we were ''good enough''

sad thing is, 1 year later and we're sooo much better at the game. Dylans little wavedash whor sheik fails at the hands of my marth, but his slow.. walking.. mindgamey marth owns mine for the moment, and the only time I see him wavedash with fox is out of shines, and occasionaly for spacing or mindgames.

He used to be all ''Omg wavedashing, only way to space blah blah'' but since then we were like ''Dang! walking and pivoting are kickass!''

well we always used pivots, but walking we just recently started doing. OMG can it be good at the right time haha.

Wellll this threads wayy of track now but meh, maybe the point will get across.

Im sober now and less angry, so ill just go back to not caring.

Yeah, I don't remember saying that, all's I remember saying was that the game will be more balanced, so now people might pick somebody besides fox and falco, and may even have a chance to win.
